  1. Hi everyone! Went to my husbands interview yesterday. Very basic information verifying ordeal. The IO was nice but also had a straight face the whole time until after the interview. There was a lady sitting in our room observing. The NYC federal plaza office is kinda crazy. For those of you who may have your interview at this office please come an hour earlier at least. We were running late, our appointment was for 10:30, walked in the building at exactly 10am and didn't get upstairs until 10:38am because of the security checks. They didn't mention anything about it but I would hate for someone to be a no show because of lines downstairs in the future.

So we then waited no more than 20 minutes and had our interview with a very professional yet nice IO.

She asked for my husbands original BC, passport, I94. My daughter's BC, my BC and my state ID. Later after asking some questions she asked for joint documents. I gave her bank statements, credit card statements, a previous lease, my daughters baptismal record.

Questions were like "How old is your husband?" What is his DOB? " what is his first child's name? How old is she? What are his parents names? Where was your husband born? When did he arrive in the U.S? Under what visa? How many previous marriages did he have? When was the last time he has seen his first born? What is his ex's full name?

    To my husband:

"What is the DOB of the child you have together?" "What is her full name?" "What facility was she born?" "What time was she born?" "What are your wife's parents names" " how many divorces did your wife have?" "What visa did you come in with?" "What happened with that application?"

Then she asked me to briefly explain how we met and so on. She asked for the exact location we met.

Then she proceeded with the usual "yes and no" questions.

And at the end she asked for pictures. I gave the album and then kept one from my daughters baptism of the three of us, my sister and brother in law and the priest.

It ended by her giving us a paper saying my husbands application is pending upon review. The IO she believes we are a legit couple but its just procedure. She told us not to worry she sees nothing wrong and it would be up to a 60 day wait for an approval.

At 12:30pm today we received emails stating that his I-485 status is at card production.

    We are so happy!

Congrats to you all. So happy that most are getting positive results and we did it all together.

I have been soo busy lately because we just moved into a new apartment. But I never forgot abt my VJ friends.

    Many blessings to you all!

    Hi Liz!

You're next :) Good luck on the interview! Let us know how it goes.

    Cheers,

    Blue

  2. So, I guess I made the cut! Received the news just now that our interview has been scheduled for July 11! 5 days before I leave to Florida, thank God I don't have to reschedule! Yayyy almost there!!

Tash are you still bringing your little one with you? are you going to have someone with you or will it be just the 3 of you?

  3. Congrats on your interview Ally! And congrats Blue and Tash on your interview dates! Still waiting for mine but its expected to take long since NYC seems to take ages to give out interviews. It could be until August until

I get my interview date! But someone who's AOS was filed a week before mines just got an interview date in July. I am not sweating it because if I follow that trend and get an interview date a week after them it will land on the week I'm going to Florida!

Oh well, Ive kept busy here with lots of family events but I'm glad to see progress with other March 2013 filers.

    Blessings!

  4. Bad apples are everywhere. But I've never heard anything specifically negative about Peruvian women. Maybe the people telling you that are just jealous of you or her. Seems like a decent girl from what you wrote. Give the girl a chance. And maybe your friends or whoever is telling u this are the ones "acting." They are probably bitter,m.

  5. Also I never heard of a problem when someone doesn't renew their EAD card( only if the employer asks for it) they just renew it whenever they get to it and that's it( for employment purposes only) if you are currently working they advise you to apply 3 months before the expiration so it gets there on time b4 the other one expires (and there's a grace period)

I think there is some confusion over what card or status actually "lapsed"

Could it be a previous GC, visa, that lapsed?

  6. My questions:

Where do I start on this site? I was told there was a checklist sort of thing.

How do we find out what kind of visa/work permit my husband has?

Does my husband letting his work permit lapse mess us over?

Will my husband having two DUIs require us to have to hire an attorney?

As it was said before, his case is complex because:

    He came here illegally.

Somehow some way there is a relationship between him and the USCIS already because he was receiving an Employment Authorization Card which to my knowledge is only giving to people who are waiting for their Permanent Residence to be approved. ( ask your husband, what application was filed for him in the past)

And because of the DUIs, I think you need at the very least to speak to an attorney.

I came into an attorney's office thinking that I had the most complex and impossible case ever, and she gave me the confidence that it wasn't so bad so I did the process on my own.

She even gave me a lesser price because she knew I couldn't really afford to pay a lawyer but told me she thinks I could do it on my own. She literally wrote out a guideline about what to file, how much it would cost, what evidence to include etc. so far so good as my case status is not at interview scheduling.

So, I think you should at least go for a 1 hour consultation with an attorney. Bring all your documents and I guess his mom? Or make sure you understand what was really done in the past so you can explain it to the attorney. I paid $75 for my consultation. It's priceless when you get to really understand what applications are which and what is the best step for you.

    Goodluck!

  7. Hello,

Plsssssssssssssssssssss,Can anybody let me know what is going on pertaining to late response from the USCIS. I sent in my package via UPS express on last week friday to Chicago lockbox, delivered on monday 04/29/2013 at the mail room and signed by Yearsgain. But i never received ANY Email or text for confirmation of receiving the package.

Pls am eager for the response, plsssssssssssssssssssssssssssss.

Hi, did you send in the " Form 1145, E-Notification of Application/Petition Acceptance" ? If you didn't then you will have to wait until you get your Notice of Action in the mail.

    Hello Liz,

I think this is where the variability of our local offices' loads kicks in. I was prepared for a long wait, because a member named Mabouby, wrote about his long wait time between his biometrics appointment and news about an interview date. I still am prepared to wait because the Denver office also services Wyoming.

If it's been a month since the testing and interview status change, perhaps it's time for a follow up?

    Blue Bianchi

Thanks Blue, I did call them today just to see what they would say.. They said NYC is backed up with appointment scheduling. So I feel better. Could it be that the other receipt numbers are from other cities? I guess so..

I know you're local office is NYC, this office has a processing time of 6-7 months I think.

Once your status says "Testing and interview" just means that it got passed on from NBC to your local office, and your local office will schedule you for an interview date.

This all depends on how busy your local office is, I have seen people from NYC having to wait like 3 months for an interview date.... not trying to discourage you. But I do think because your local office is super busy, it's probably going to be a while.

I don't think they have forgotten about you!

    Hang in there!

You should try going on trackitt.com and actually go here http://www.trackitt.com/usa-immigration-trackers/i130-i485

You can track it by your local office and see peoples cases who are on the site.

That should give you an idea of the wait.

Thanks, Ally! Wow, cool site.. Yes, I've see other NYers out there waiting long too. Maybe I should forget about comparing case statuses. I just am super worried my hubby's previous application would effect his new one which makes me think that's why they are skipping me. Oh well, I'll just leave it in Gods hands.

  8. Hey guys, I'm kinda discouraged. :( everyday I've been checking the receipt numbers after me to see if they have gotten their interview appointments and every single one has an interview except mine as of 04/30/13. It just worries me that they skipped us for some reason since everyone before and after us has one! I know it hasn't been that long since filing but it just bothers me that I'm the only one... It's been a month since my status changed to "testing and interview." Just praying that everything is ok... If only I could find out whether receipt numbers are assigned by receive date AND field office location... If they are assigning receipt numbers according to location then I'm worried... But if not then I'm ok with waiting however long it takes because I know the reason is that NY is "terribly" backed up according to USCIS Customer Service!

Ugh trying to keep busy and forget about all this !

  9. Just wanted to share our experience of our infopass appointment today at Holtsville, NY. We went there to cancel a previously filed I-485 application and turned out to be not so bad. First off, I want to say I live in Manhattan but decided to go to Long Island because #1. There were no available appointments until June in the city, #2 free parking and #3 I think that offices outside the city are run by "happier" employees and are less crowded (just my opinion but I think I was right.) so, we arrived at 10:30am although our appointment was at 11:30am, checked in and was seen within 10 minutes. We spoke to a man at a window he just asked my husband why he was canceling his application, he told him because him and his ex were divorced and he is now applying a new one and he said okay. He made copies of the old NOA and his current NOAs and told us he may have to appear at an interview to explain the cancellation but his current application should have cancelled out his prior application on its own. The man was very kind and even chitchated with my husband about the Philippines.

I write this experience to just let you guys know that my experience wasn't so bad as I thought it would of been considering all the bad infopass posts here on visa journey. Also i couldnt find anyone who cancelled an application through infopass and this is to let you know that yes it can be done that way. Last night I was up all night thinking of what could go wrong at this appointment but I have to say I think the trip to LI was worth it. I know for a fact I would not have gotten the same treatment in NYC that I did in Long Island. Everyone else looked relatively happy with the service provided to them also. I did see some other people being called to rooms, I think the may have had more to ask than I did that's why they got to speak in a room. If you have a car and live in NY, I recommend going there for infopasses. They provide free parking and the building is beautiful inside and out.

  10. Got my interview scheduled for May 23! Haven't gotten the letter yet, but the online info says that it's scheduled at National Benefits Center. I think that's just the online status though, read around that the letter should state the local office. Won't know till the letter gets here.

My status was changed to ready for interview on April 10, so it's about 2 weeks to get the interview date. Good luck to you guys and hope you get your interview date soon as well :)

Wow that's super fast! Good luck!
