  1. It's definitely their fault, so do NOT include a check. And tick off "USCIS error". I'd suggest including a letter to clarify the reasoning for the I-90. Not sure if it's required or not, but make sure you submit a copy of your birth certificate showing your actual birth date.

Saylin, thank you :) I will do that, I guess I have to include a copy of my birth certificate and the translation, I will also include a copy of my Canadian passport

Thanks Saylin, Will do that tomorrow :)

  2. hi folks,

I created a new post with my question but unfortunately didn't receive any replies, so I will post it here as this topic gets a lot of traffic. It's off topic so I apologize in advance.

after waiting nearly 9 weeks, my green card finally arrived, with an error!! they made a mistake with my birth date and typed it in wrong, they told me to file form I-90. Do I just select "USCIS error" for reasoning and don't disclose a check since they're the ones that made the error?! Or do I need to disclose some type of cover letter explaining the situation?

  3. Hi folks,

I haven't been on this site much since I made my official move over 2 months ago. After waiting almost 9 weeks, I finally received my green card, but unfortunately there is an error on it ( USCIS error) and they instructed me to fill out form I-90. Do I select the reason "My existing card has incorrect data because of USCIS error"? I believe so, as none of the other criteria match my situation, and what happens to the filling fee? they told me there will be none if it is in fact a USCIS error, which it is, because they made an error with my birth date. so since it's a USCIS error, I shouldn't include a check? they will issue me one without right? I just want to know if I need to take a further step with this filling fee, making sure they're not going to reject my application.

What documents do I need to provide as proof of my birth date? is biographic data page of my canadian passport enough? please enlighten me, thanks folks

  4. Hi folks,

It's been almost 2 months since I've POEd and there is still no sign of my green card or the immigrant visa fee receipt. I know some people received a "fee in suspense" notice of action but unfortunately I haven't received anything. I called USCIS at the 1 month mark and they couldn't locate me on their system and asked me to call back after 60 days. I'm getting a little worried since I know almost everyone received a notice of action for the immigrant visa fee, what if they misplaced my file at the airport where I POEd? what can I do at this point? should I continue waiting?

  5. USCIS could not pull me up either. There was nothing there to be seen until the payment for the Immigration Fee was officially in the system at which point they sent another NOA type form (I forget the number 797? was that it?) with a brand new receipt number. It was not tied at all to the original receipt number I had from our I-130s.

So based on my experience and yours, it appears that it is just normal for it to be that way. My SSN came the same day we received the receipt for the Immi fee payment. I still say give it a couple more days. If you didn't have this job opportunity you'd be content to wait. Can you tell the job offer folks that your SSN is on the way... which is technicaally the truth? Give it a few more days and then just explain that it was delayed. If you are their perfect fit for the position I'm sure they can give you a few days for the SSN to arrive.

what you say makes total sense, maybe Toronto didn't send my paperwork right away, and since it was in Canada, it would obviously take some time to get there! but why would SS not have any record of me on their system? wouldn't they see it on their system if it was in process?

You're right, I would have waited a little longer if I didn't have this job offer. When do you think I should go in to apply? maybe Monday or Tuesday? Ughhhh I can't decide, I totally hate this!

  6. Emily, I think the delay is just between the POE submitting your paperwork and office it goes to. I think the SSN office processes it very quickly once they receive it. If I remember correctly, you did your POE at Pearson? If so, I wonder if it would take longer for them to send paperwork out since it wasn't actually IN the States but in Canada at that point. I'm just taking guesses.

The passport stamp is proof you are eligible to work. Can the employer hold off on SSN arriving? Even if you apply tomorrow you won't get it immediately.

I kind of freaked out when she said she doesn't see anything in the system, and I'm not sure whether or not I should go in and apply in person...if I do go in and apply, will they cancel the one that's already in process? (assuming it is) plus, it was really weird that USCIS wasn't able to pull me up on their system

  7. Did you pay the green card production $165 fee before you left for the USA?

If not you need to pay that before they will produce a green card.

If you have, well you just have to wait sadly. The stamp in your passport should be good enough for the job for now.

I would go ahead and apply for the SSN at the SS office to try and speed up the process for that because no ssn means no job.

Yes, I paid the fee before I left Canada. So you mean if I show my passport with the visa I should be ok for the job? They need to conduct a background check, can they do it without a SSN?

Ughhh only when I thought this waiting game is over

  8. Hi folks,

I POEd 11 days ago, and I know I can give it another week before worrying about my SSN and green card, but here is the issue. Called USCIS to ask about my green card production and they were not able to pull me up on their system, told me to make an infopass appointment. Since I have a job offer, I decided to go in to. SS administration office and see if they could tell me whether or not they have anything on the system for me, and they didn't. She said she doesn't see anything and that I should apply for it, but couldn't do it because I didn't have my BC on me and she said she needed it, although they told me they only need to see my passport on the phone. What should I do? Continue waiting for it and hoping it shows up? Or go back in and apply in person? Plz enlighten me

  9. Visa approved!! Had my interview and it went great, I was done and out of the consulate by 9am...few hrs after I checked my visa status and it says "issued", called DOS to confirm and it looks like my visa was printed. We are beyond excited and couldn't be happier. I want to thank all of you for all the help and moral support you've given me over the last few months and I wish all of you the best of luck in this journey.

  10. I read through the list in the removal of conditions forum. You should too.

I keep things like that too, but they're not real evidence. They're mementos for me. :) It's funny but I'm more interested in being in my relationship than keeping memories for the first time. I think its a good thing.

For others, like Nola, it's the change to the opppsite that makes it most important. :)

I know they're not real evidence for immigration purposes, I've only kept them for myself, it has no meaning to anyone else than to us.

For now I'm focused on actually starting my life with hubby, I'm sure when the time for ROC comes we'd have plenty to show as the things that are listed as evidences aren't something I have to run after and keep track of. I'm already on the deed of the house, medical and car insurance, that just leaves a few other things which will come together once I have a SSN.

They windows do have a dip in them, at least in Stockholm. We couldn't even fit the two I-864s and domicile evidence through at the same time and that was just loose paper and neither was more than 1/2" thick.

I started collecting from out first meeting too, not for immigration purposes either. I just knew he was my soulmate, because true me, I've never made a scrap book for anyone else before. I think it will be a cute thing for a kids later, a sort of beginning of mommy and daddy's marriage through pictorial representation. Love has made me seriously corny.

I don't think it's corny at all, some of us actually find this very charming. We're on the same boat lol

  11. If you wanted to, instead of having all those photographs you could scan them (unless you already have them as a digital copy) and just print 2 per sheet of paper. OR just take what you've got, but yeah, that album won't fit in the slot. If they actually want to see them you can just pull a couple out and pass them through or hold up the album. But I don't think they're going to ask.

You're fine with your folder. I brought 3 x 1" binders (one for each of us with all our correspondence) and 1 x 2" binder with all our originals. It was a pain in the #### carrying them but I didn't have much choice.

    You're going to be great!

I've already printed out digital copies, I will take what I've put together already, and if I'm asked for them, I will just do what works best for them.

I hope so, keep your fingers crossed for me please :)

  12. The opening in the windows in Montreal have a scooped opening in the counter to feed stuff through, I don't know how else to explain it but you'll need to be bending items if you're actually passing it through. So I wouldn't bring a photo album unless you're just going to show through the window which is probably OK. I don't think you're going to have any problems but since you didn't provide anything at all at any point I think you're planning well by bringing items just in case.

I had to put them in a photo album, because they were sticking together and weren't presentable that way. From what you've described, sounds like the photo album won't fit in the slot that opens, so I'd have to show it to them through the window or take out a few pictures from the album and hand it to them.

for the rest of the stuff, I used 2 of the hard plastic translucent folders from staples that open to different sections, that is allowed inside the consulate right?

  13. Nope, first petition is still in Hartford or lost, even then we had almost no evidence - one photo, photo of our door showing both of our names, FB post of my MIL, and his name on my daughter's school registration. No financial or other evidence. *shrugs* I know that for I-130s submitted at London they explicitly state that they don't want evidence and they will just return it to you.

We did bring a scrapbook with lots of pictures, cards, and sort of a timeline of our relationship as well as cards and invites addressed to us both, all the boarding passes, school bills made out to us both, tickets for events here, etc. but like I said, they didn't ask for it.

People tend to go a little overboard with evidence with low fraud countries. You are from Canada, I doubt you'll need much if anything at all.

We have started accumulating for ROC, though. I will not be unprepared in 2 years. :star:

I will take all that I have and hope for the best, we'll see what happens, I guess I will only present it to them if they ask to see them, if not, I will add them to the pile of evidences for ROC

  14. We did not include any with our second I-130 or the IV package. Evidence of relationship was not asked for even though we brought some along. If they see you've got a photo album or some papers they might ask to see it, but I wouldn't show it to them otherwise.

Was your first petition merged with the second one? just asking to see whether or not they got to see your evidences that were sent with the initial petition, I guess I will only show them my evidences if and when they ask for them.

  15. As a Canadian, it's unlikely they will ask to see anything or want to. I have yet to read a Montreal interview where it was asked for or needed, but everyone seems to bring it, just in case.

I've been told that but I'm just asking since we didn't include any with our petition/IV package, and so I wanted to know if I should wait for the CO to ask for it or just refer to them when answering questions?!

Have the copies of your evidence together. When we were asked what extra evidence we brough we just gave the IO a stack of xerox papers with proof of joined medical, joined care inusurance etc etc etc . ( Have the originals in a separate envelope ) Also bring extra pictures

Yes I put everything (all of our evidences) in one folder, plus a photo album, so I should just wait for the CO to ask for it?
