Actually we sent colour copy of our marriage certificate (not original) with our application. So they asked our original to verify but gave it back to us. Same way, they asked my original birth certificate as well. As soon as we enter the interview room, they asked us to take a oath that whatever we say is true bla bla.. then asked for our identification documents namely passport/driving lic as applicable. then started looking at our file ready on the table. then asked us if we have anything more to submit/add to our file.. then we showed our photos & above documents. The officer quickly went thru our documents & asked us what is what. then he said he shall add them to our file. later went thru our photo album. In fact he was more interested in our photos than documents.
Honestly speaking, my hubby lost his job after/at the time of my K-1 interview. So with my support application, we submitted only his assets/bank stmts... honestly declared in the support documentation that he was unemployed since date XX/XX. Later he got job two months before interview. During interview we submitted his new pay stubs and employer details/documents. but absolutely NO question asked about either his lost job or his new job. No new affidavit of support as well.
Hope this helps!
Regarding "questions" asked during interview:
1. when did I last enter US?
2. when did we marry?
3. I entered on 17th May & got married on 19th May. so he said: oh.. so you planned everything over phone before my POE"..
4. while seeing documents: he commented positively on our vehicle purchase; similarly on our photos..
pretty much casual, cool & joking most of the time!
It was one of the simplest immigration interviews I have ever had!

I took
1. My passport, birth certificate, EAD combo card, marriage certificate and my US driving lic, latest I-94
2. For my husband, took his passport, driving lic, his employment letter (as he had changed jobs), recent pay stubs, his divorce decree & child custody
3. Photo album containing photos from each occasion/time since we met (dated) till that point to show how our relationship had progressed so far.
4. Copies of documents that have both our names &/or address like our car insurance, car title, bank account statements, joint credit cards.
I also went thru I-485 application especially the yes/no questions so that I know what will be asked. We got approved on the same day
Interview is generally simple for K-1 as we have already gone thru interview process before entering USA.
Good Luck for your interview, eeosas.

People who had received complete EI, I mean who didn't join a job till the entire claim period: For how many weeks in total did you get EI?
For me it says Total weeks of entitlement = 36 weeks.
what does that mean?

Congrats to all those who got their Waiver letter.
Btw, I received my Green Card today by USPS priority mail, a week after our interview. It is such a relief that for about next 2 years, I am done with Immigration paper work!

Cell phones are allowed at San Jose, CA office as well. We just turned it to Vibration mode while at the interview. There is a security screening soon after entering the hallway wherein we need to put all our belongings including belt, watch, keys, shoes etc.

Will USCIS website show tracking number for GC as it showed for EAD/AP?
My interview was on 8th Sep & approved later on the same day. Then USCIS had multiple updates stating that new card is mailed to you on 12th Sep but doesn't show any tracking number!

Thanks.
Interview began with swearing in & showing IDs (Passport &/or driving lic)
questions were very few:
How did we meet?
When was my PoE?
When did we get married?
do we have anything more to submit? (we showed photographs & joint bank stmts)
two yes/no questions from I-485 application (like have you been arrested, have you ever had issues with US immigration)
Overall it was a very great experience as the officer was very jovial & cracking jokes as & when possible..
Good Luck to everyone here

My I-485 status in USCIS website got updated to "card in production", as expected.. Pretty fast! Kudos to them...

Just came back from AoS interview. It was very simple & smooth. The officer said everything looks fine but will review our file to see if he had forgotten anything. Hopefully will hear our approval today itself.

Congratulations!

Got my California Driving license after passing behind-the-wheel test on 21-Aug-2014. It was one of the simplest driving tests... Unlike other states like SC where I have done it before involved all tests like parallel parking, K-turn, reverse etc., CA driving test is pretty simple.. the max they asked was curbside parking & reversing!...

I got my first EI today. Thanks to this thread & special thanks to NLR who responded to me as & when needed

My case status moved to testing & interview on 30-June-2014 & we got to know the actual interview date only in Aug beginning. So it depends on how busy the scheduling centre is!
I too got worried if the letter about interview date in mail might not have reached us... but USCIS website got updated first with an interview date & then 2 days later got the letter in mail.
Of course calling USCIS would not hurt!

Just finished the road test today! was waiting for EAD to arrive!
Funny! My first driving license was from SC, USA in 2004.. I could trade that for a Canadian license when I moved there & had been driving for last 10 years with a clean driving record. Now I am back to USA but because it is California I have to go thru the whole written test & drive test & what not! Damn!
Anyways, they gave me a temporary license instead of a "permit" based on Canadian license! at least!
Now should plan & prepare for road test!
Anyone who had gone thru California DL, please share what to expect in the road test. Thou I have read the California DMV website, it will be nice to know real time experiences. Btw, I am trying to fix up an appointment for road test; it says "driving lic # &/or birth date does not match our records" thou I am 200% sure everything is correct checked several times. May be I should wait for some more time before it shows up in their system??? what is going on?

EAD/AP combo card in hand today!
Hopefully, our interview on 8th September 2014 will go very smoothly & we get approved the same day

Congratulations AmericanLife. Thanks NikeS.
Yesterday I got USPS tracking number for my EAD card. Hopefully it should be with me on Monday or Tuesday.

To those who got interview date: Does the notice say that it is "request for applicant to appear for initial interview"?
Today we got our interview letter & it says initial interview. Is it a standard formatted verbatim?
-
To all friends fasting and praying for me, FYI; I received today a letter to appear for biometrics on 08/18.
I know your prayers are working, so keep it going. I'd put y'all in the known, any updates, ask they come.
God bless us all
WOW!
Finally, your much awaited biometrics letter has arrived!
I am sure it will go super fast for you from now on!. All the very Best.

Thanks eeosas. Don't worry. yours is coming soon.
Does anybody know how long will it take to receive the interview letter by mail once the date is updated in the USCIS website?
-
Just got an email/text that my interview date is on 8th Sep 2014
-
Just got an update. EAD/AP card in production.
Still waiting for I-485 interview date!

I sent two job applications this week, already got an interview set for tomorrow. Hopefully it will go well!
I just applied to some clothing store at the mall, just to get started, and then maybe later look for something better
All the very Best for your job interview tomorrow.
Btw, did you get your interview date for I-485. My case status changed to Testing & interview on 30-June-2014 but no interview date yet. Kinda getting anxious as someone might have forgotten about my case!!

Hi NLR,
For Canadian tax returns
1. Can we use netfile or only paper returns?
2. my marital status has changed but hubby does not have SIN # & it is me (Canadian) who emigrated to USA. So, in "Non-refundable tax credits" do we get only basic personal amount or do we get spouse amount as well?
3. I called CRA & they said just send us a letter stating your hubby's full name & date of marriage;
I worked in Canada till May 2014 & getting EI since Aug 2014 & have no USA earnings!
I never thought it is going to be so confusing!
