  1. This has always been a pain in the ###. I figured by now, over 2 years has passed since we had to go through this same nightmare, their system would actually be fixed and they would have some sort of "queue" system that would eliminate the mad dash to book appointments the SECOND they become available. Literally, they were booked solid for the next month within 5 minutes when we got lucky to be able to book ours. They become available around 1pm GUZ time if I remember right once a week. Have your lady check QQ for k-1 interview appointment dates groups that coordinate when they check and notify when times are availalbe. My wife was able to get an appointment only with the help of several QQ groups setup just for booking these dam appointments.

Here's some threads that I started/posted on that you'll want to check out for guidance:

Good luck! Scheduling this dam interview date was by far the most challenging and stressful part of the entire Immigration process. CGI/Stanley's system is absolutely dreadful. Even the RoC process so far hasn't been even remotely as bad as this was!

  2. I'm not sure this is correct. If you don't AOS from K-1 after entering the US and getting married, there's a risk that USCIS will deny a future CR-1 petition due to no AOS after entering on K-1.

I think the best option for OP is to get legally married in Columbia, and then when you're ready to return to the US, do CR-1 in Columbia and then she can accompy you to the US.

Or... if you really are dead-set on it (and I'm not 100% on the legality of this you'd need to triple check)... You could do K1, get married, not apply for AOS, move back to Colombia and apply for a CR-1 when you're ready (a year or so before that permanent move). This means that all of the money spent on the K1 (~$800) will be lost. However, some people spend $800 on an ice sculpture at their weddings, so if that's something that's that important to you, far be it from me to tell you how to spend your money.

  3. First off, I would put a fraud watch on your credit reports with the 3 agencies (Experian, Transunion and equifax) as people can use the birth certificate/passport to open accounts in your name and committ identity fraud/ruin your credit.

Anything that you submitted with the I-485 almost 2 years ago you don't need to resubmit, nor should you resubmit. You likely submitted the marriage cert and birth cert with the i-485. You just need to show enough financial comingling evidence to prove that your relationship is legit. The sooner you submit it the better since you should have submitted it on day 90 or day 89 before GC expiration. I would write a letter explaining that the paperwork was stolen with the GC. Also, file a police report to prove this and include it in your filing. You don't have any digital copies of your GC? You just need to submit a copy of it with the paperwork.

Do you have any documents that show strong financial comingling to prove your marriage? Mortgage/lease, car loan, insurance, investments, etc?

The guide for ROC explains it better than I could for what to submit: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?autocom=custom&page=751guide

    Best of luck!

  4. It's likely she won't be approved. My inlaws have gotten B2's in the past by being required to put a freeze on a good chunk of money in their bank accounts. Something like 50000 RMB+ to be unfrozen only upon their return to China.

  5. Thank you for the information! I have read your review. I noticed that it took you a month from the interview to actually getting the visa. Is that a normal range of time?

I will read more into the "evolution of relationship."

    Thanks again.

No problem! Ours seemed to take longer than normal. Everyone else in our QQ group had theirs in 2 weeks. I think we got the passport back only because I put in a request for help with my congressperson's office to get it expedited.

    Good luck!

  6. Please check out my timeline, I wrote about the entire interview process in GZ and should give you some general ideas. It was 2 years ago, but still applies I'm sure since they were in the new building compound.

If you're planning on going to GZ and waiting outside for your Fiancee during the intervew, I highly recommend creating a "evolution of relationship" document and scheule an a US citizen services appointment at the Consulate the day before the interview and get the document notarized by them. The US citizen area is directly above the Visa interview floor and you walk right past it all on the first floor on the way in and out. It gave me a very good idea of the process and really helped understand it better. Search on here for evolution of relationship for more details about this document. It was required in the initial K-1 paperwork up until about 4 years ago.

  7. Trying to second guess USCIS is a game that is fraught with likely very few success stories, and a lot of heartache. Picking the Mega-million lotto numbers may be less stressful. Personally, we didn't plan any trips until after my wife and stepson got their 10-yr GCs, that course of action had enough stress built in by USCIS, but seems much less stressful than what you are considering.

    YMMV.

Good luck on your immigration journey.

I fully agree with this. Isn't worth the risk not to mention stress that would come along with trying to guess when USCIS is going to do something. We're not planning any international travel during the time that my wife's ROC is in processing after submitting it next month. After she gets 10-yr GC, no problems.

  8. Even if you have transcripts W-2's can't hurt if you have them and they have the same address for each of you. It's more useful for the address than anything else with tax transcripts.

For the credit card added him as authorized user, did they ask for SS # when you added him? Or, does it show separate charges for each authorized user? I added my wife to my AE card when we got married and they asked for her SS #. Her charges appear separate from mine on the statement which shows us both using the card.

  9. Affadavits are secondary evidence. They're not very strong evidence. If you have a lot of financial cominglings you should be fine.

When I say "a lot" I mean most of the following: life/health/property/car insurance showing the other as beneficiary, married filing jointly tax transcripts (can be gotten from IRS website, takes a few weeks to get by mail, they're preferred over just returns/w-2's), joint bank account statements, investment statements showing the other as beneficiary, any assets you purchased together including leases/mortgages/others, wills/healthcare directives showing eachother as beneficiary, joint credit cards, etc...

    Good luck!

  10. A tip on the tax transcripts for other users that are wondering if you need them or not. They're easy to get, you should get them. I ended up getting them out of the blue after almost a month of waiting for them after I filled out the online form on the IRS' site to request them. No confirmation or anything that they recieved the request, I just got them out of the blue. Even got my congressperson's office involved after the long wait but didn't need to in the end!

  11. What about insurance? Life insurances with eachother as beneficiary? Auto insurance?

Just so you know, affadavits are secondary evidence and are not primary. Basically, they're only useful if you have rock solid primary evidence usually financial evidence is best.

Utility bills are secondary evidence as well, but can't hurt including them.

Make sure you put details of where each photo was taken/date/who is in the photo.

  12. That's normal in SF. We got married in Oakland and they were able to give me as many certified copies of the certificate as we wanted at the end of the ceremony. I'd go pick it up or it'll take an extra week or two for it to arrive by mail. Follow the AOS guide on here and get the i-485 in ASAP after you get the marriage certificate! :) FYI - if you just take a very good b/w or better yet, color copy of it you can submit this and not waste a certified copy. Just bring it to the interview if you have one in the future and they'll ask to see the original then. Best of luck! :)
