  1. My husband arrived in the US on 12/15/12, POE, Philadelphia, PA. The immigration office at the POE told my husband that he will receive his Social Security card in 4-6 weeks in the mail. In the meantime, the immigration officer said that he can use the Alien # to start working. I thought you needed to wait until receiving the Social Security number. Does anyone have any information on this that may help ?

Also, I just wanted to be sure of the next steps with regard to his paperwork now that he is in the US. The next thing I need to do is file the change of status form from conditional resident to permanent residence within 90 days of the two year anniversary of my husbands arrival. Is that correct?

Thank you in advance for your help and advice.

  2. Attorneys are rip offs, especially if you have been doing all the work. All u really need is good understanding and visa journey.VJ is here to help you with any questions, which is truly a blessing. I refuse to throw money away with a lawyer.

Thank you to all for validating my thoughts. I wish I had found visa journey before starting this process 15 months ago.

God Bless and good luck with each of your situations.

  3. My husband was approved at the Jamaican Embassy on 10/26. I contacted the immigration attorney I hired and was told to make an appointment when he arrives. When I asked why...she said, "Depending on whether he gets a green card or a visa will dictate what we need to do next". I'm confused, I've already paid about 3500 dollars and I've done most of the work, now they attorney wants me to set another appointment for what? After following visajourney, I thought the next step is filing the change of status from conditional to permanent within 90 days prior to the 2 year anniversary of my husband's admittance to the US. If I am correct, why do I need to pay a lawyer more money when I can do it myself with VJ help? Also, I'm not sure how the social security card is issued. Do we have to apply at the office when he gets here or is it automatically sent after his arrival? Thanks in advance for advice and help.
