I'm so glad I'm not the only one who feels this way. It is really true that people seem happy with the friends they've got and don't want to expand their circle. People at work would be my "friends" I guess, but outside of work I don't really hang out with them.

They never seize to amaze me!! That is too hilarious

Keep originals. If you feel a little unsure whether copies alone will do, just send certified copies.
But since you got the international version, that is not an original (as in your original b/c issued when you were born) so you can send it in, or just make copies.

I already take classes in college, but it seems to be that most people are so self-involved, they aren't interested in meeting new people. I have no problem finding aquaintances, it's the real friendships that just don't happen.

Is your American father on your birth certificate? If yes, you might be eligible for citizenship by blood relation.
Call the embassy in Frankfurt to figure out more. Or visit their website, you might find something there as well.

the bread issue is really big for me, too. I just miss bread with a real crust!! Not that soft, gooey stuff you get here.
Never tried to make it myself, but I'd like to give it a shot. Don't know where to start though. Roggenbrot is really hard to make, and I'm not sure about all those ready-mix packages you can buy here.
Gotta check out Aldi like someone suggested.

hi everyone,
I just wanted to see how most of you make new friends here in the US.
I am a very outgoing person, and have "friends" at work, and of course my hubbie's friends.
But what I miss is a really good friend to hang out with, talk with, share stories with and all that.
I had very great friends at home, and never had problems meeting new people.
Is it just the different mentality here? I am having a really hard time building a serious friendship

Hey, bragging is unfair
I am really glad you got a great job, hope some others have the same kind of luck

I believe that the NVC doesn't send out mail every day. There are only certain days when they mail forms. Therefore, it is absolutely normal that you haven't received it yet. Stay patient, it'll get there
-
yes, definitely put that down. It's an important aspect of the background check and not telling them about it could cause trouble down the road.

It helps to read the guides first, it can give you a good idea of what you need to do. Then, if you still have questions, you can post them here. everything you need to know at first, is in the guides or the forum overviews. Once you post a most specific question, you will be able to get a better answer

I don't recommend whiting out. They want to see exactly what you corrected so cross it out and correct it that way.

you gotta love Frankfurt!

It kind of depends.... many companies are degree snobs and only want to hire someone with a degree or tons of experience. Also, when I applied for jobs, many refused me because they couldn't verify my previous employment, or didn't wanna bother with overseas calls, and all that.
Other employers are great. i finally found a job at an optometrist's office, and my boss hired me on the spot.
If you wanna stay in the field as a tech, you can go to any Dr. office and apply. For most of these jobs, you don't need certification or anything ( I had never worked in the medical field before), and they train you on the job.
It differs from state to state of course, also! Could be too easy otherwise!

That's wonderful! I remember when I got the letter...I wanted to hug everyone, even our grumpy old neighbor who couldn't care less.

There are many different department that handle your case at the NVC so the one that received the fee might just be slow to communicate to the one sending the checklist.
Call NVC and talk to an operator, all the information is in their system. I had the same problem when I dealt with them. I had already sent DS230 and received a checklist saying I still need to submit it.
A simple call to NVC verified that I had submitted everything and my papers were ready to be sent on!

your case number allows you to check on your case. This number will be with you until you get your visa. Any inquiries, any questions, it all will be related to the case number.
You can now call NVC hotline and check on your file, see whether they have sent the next form, received your files, processed your documents and all that. It is indeed a pretty helpful little number!!

does she use your name at all? If not, then you don't have to put it there. If she does, then do!
If her maiden name is the only legal name she ever used (not talking bout the future here), then say none.
-
the visa will be in the name that is on the passport (at least it used to) so if her passport states her maiden name you should use that. As long as her name is not changed to yours, you should keep using her maiden name. And I am sure, you want to get started asap, so I would use her old name on the forms and all that.

sometimes it seems that a touch mean they brushed off some dust...a touch is a good thing though, because you know your case it not lost or anything like that...
-
a touch can be generated from so many different things. It doesn't necessarily mean that someone is doing something with it. It could just be moved to a different pile or something like that. Plus, due to your case, it might be that it is looked at it a little more often and by a few more people.
I am sure it doesn't mean anything bad.

same here. I was still pending online and they finally sent me an email after I requested them to look into it. Funny enough, I was already in the US
-
I belive that you can change your wife's name in the US. It kinda depends on the state, but in many, it is no hassle at all.

Don't you wish they would send out a first one to all the people waiting for it so patiently? Makes you wanna stroke their head saying "Okay, now, that was a great job, but next time, we want you to send it to people who haven't gotten it yet. But don't worry, you're getting there, we are really proud of you!"
