  1. Hi,

I'm finally sarting the process of naturalization but I need help to fill out the form. I am applying under the three year rule (based on marriage) and was wondering if I have to fill out parts 5, 8 and 9 with the last three OR five years? Since I'm applying under the three year rule, I assume I only have to list my adresses, jobs and travel history of the last 3 years but I can't find that written down anywhere! Please can someone clarify this for me? Especially people that have already filled out the form and applied based on US marriage.

    Thank you so much!

  2. Hi everybody,

I just started compiling the documents needed to apply for citizenship based on marriage to a US citizen. I have a doubt about the marriage certificate, does it need to be a new/updated copy? Or can I send a copy of our original marriage certificate? The document checklist says "current marriage certificate", not sure why they mean by that. We live in a different state now so it would be a hassle to get a new certificate.

Thanks in advance for your help!

  3. Is the name Laura Zuckowski? My envelope had the address of VSC and it was mailed from 05479 zip code of St Albans VT. then the bottom the approval letter shows the Boston Field Office's address (where I belong to), but signed by Laura Zuchowski. I just googled her name and she is the director of VSC. Maybe the letters all have a standard form, where they put the address of the applicant's local office. Could you check the address on your envelope if you haven't thrown it?

Yes, the name is Laura Zuckowski, and the envelope has the VSC address. But on the lower left corner of the letter is the NYC local office address, next to her signature. So I have no idea where did it actually come from...

Thank you so much for sharing as I think your information is very useful to many of us who are neurotically checking the status online on a daily basis and get disappointed when online status remains the same.

No problem! I was checking many times per day and reading all the posts neurotically as well before receiving the approval. Good luck!

  4. Thanks!

At the bottom of the letter is the address of the New York City local office, and it is signed by the director of the center. I didn't receive an email or text, and my status online hasn't changed. Only the letter in the mail.

Good luck, I hope you get your approval soon!

    Hi there, Congrats.

What is the difference between receiving the approval letter from Vermont Service Center versus Newy York City local office? How could you tell?

It appears that if you get the letter from the new York City local office, there is no notification and online status update. Is this correct?

I am in New York City as well and I am still waiting for my approval.

  5. Hello June filers! I have received my approval as well! :)

I received the approval letter on Saturday, from the New York City local office:

    MAYA&MATT.............06/16/15......06/19/15......07/23/15......04/19/16

My status hasn't changed online, it still says received in June.

Anyone knows how long before I receive the actual greencard? It says up to 60 days on the letter but I'm hoping it's much sooner!

  6. Another Vermont June filer here!

  7. Hi Maya,

I too was recently approved for emergency AP. My question is, what happens to the EAD combo card? Will that still be mailed to me? What happens to the work authorization part of the application when you get an emergency AP?

    Thanks for your help.

    Hi,

I received the EAD combo card via mail about 2 months after filling for AOS, you can see in my timeline the exact dates. I think I received it a little earlier than usual because I had done my biometrics a week or two before my appointment.

I did receive the normal combo card, with the EAD and AP. That was 2 years ago so I don't know if you will receive the same. After receiving the combo card, I traveled with it two times and only used the card entering the US. I took the paper AP just in case but they never asked for it.

Let me know if you have more questions. I hope everything is fine with you/your family.

    Best,

    Maya

  8. Hi Folks,

I would like to know how do I expedite AP due family emergency back in my country. My mom is in a very serious condition at the hospital and I just need to go there.

    Many simple questions here:

    InfoPass?

    Walk In?

    Call Center?

    What evidence? translated into english?

What happen if they issue an Emergency AP I still get me AP in the EAD ComboCard?

Do I need to have the biometrics done already? (haven't got the appointment letter yet but I do have NOA1s)

Any Risk when I come back? For example I came here on a tourist visa and overstayed for over a month before filling AOS with USCIS.

I'm doing AOS for marriage with a USC.

    Thank you all!

    Hi,

You can read how I got an emergency AP about 2 years ago:

    http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/415912-emergency-ap/

However, I don't know about the overstay from a tourist visa, as I came with a K1.

Good luck, I hope your mom gets better

  9. What a nice change to read these beautiful stories!

My now husband and I met in South Africa. I was there for 6 months doing an internship in Conservation. He came as a volunteer and we became friends really fast despite my poor English back then. After 5 weeks he went back to New York and although we kept in touch I didn't think I would see him again. However, he planned a second trip to South Africa while I was still doing my internship, and we ended up in the same remote natural reserve without knowing it! :) We started "dating" inmediately and after only a month we knew we belonged together and we would get married one day.

Now, 4 years later and after quite a few trips to and from New York and Barcelona, we have been happily married for almost 2 years

  10. I'm very sorry for your loss. Last year I was granted an emergency AP, here is a link to my post explaining how I did it:

    http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/415912-emergency-ap/

You should try to go to your local office, they are the ones who can really help you and they can tell you exactly what documents you need. You might not need a death certificate, maybe a letter from a doctor or policeman could work. But I think you will have to prove the relationship between you and your cousin.

I hope you can get the AP very soon to be with your family in this very painful time.

    Good luck,

    Maya

  11. Hi everybody,

I am not sure what to do. I have my conditional greencard since almost a year now. My husband and I will be going abroad for 6 months in October and I was wondering if I should apply for a reentry permit. I know I don't need it if I will be out for less than a year. But I think it could be safer if I had it when we come back. We are going abroad because my husband will be doing an internship in the Netherlands.

The problem with applying now for a reentry permit is that we were planning on going on a vacation in September, and I guess that's when I would have my biometrics appointment...

If I do apply, how long does it take to get the biometrics appointment? If we leave before it's approved, can someone else bring it to the Netherlands?

And if we don't apply, will the 6 months abroad stop "the clock" for naturalization (so I would loose the one year of residency accumulated)? If I were to come back in the middle of those 6 months for a week or two, would that make any difference for the naturalization process?

Also, what would happen if I work in the Netherlands? Will USCIS assume that I abandoned my residency here since I am working abroad?

Sorry if I'm not being very clear, I have a lot of questions but I don't know how to write them down...

    Thanks for your help!

  12. Thought I'd share my POE experience yesterday after I applied for a re-entry permit (which was denied at first then approved). It had been 5 months and a few days since my last time in the US (I was in Guam for a week over Christmas).

I did the LPR line (this is POE Seattle) and this was the dialogue:

CBP: Where are you coming from?

    Me: Shanghai via Seoul

CBP: How long were you there for?

Me: About 5 months since last time I was in the US

CBP: What were you doing there?

Me: My husband works in Shanghai

CBP: How long are you staying here before you go back again?

    Me: About two months

So the CBP officer said I needed to apply for a re-entry permit (I replied: I have one!) He asked to see it and said I had to present that (made it sound like I have to show my permit every time I enter the US now, regardless of the time I've been out). He then stamped my permit, not my passport. Is that normal? I was prepared to be questioned, because you never know, and it's been a while since I'd been back (during which I traveled quite a bit), but I was kind of expecting to get stamps in both my passport and my permit.

My takeaway from this experience: if you know you're going to be out of the country for a while and you're a LPR, fork the money out and apply for a re-entry permit. And if things get messed up, follow through until you get it. Better safe than sorry.

    Thanks for sharing your story!

Can I ask why was your reentry permit denied at first?

  13. De nada!

My letter was half Spanish/half English. It was a form from the hospital which was in Spanish (and catalan) and in the comments section, the administrative of the hospital wrote in English the surgery of my father with his name and his relationship with me. In fact, it was my mother who translated that text into English, the administrative just copied it on the form.

We had no problems with that letter to get the AP, I think the officer could clearly see that it was a form from a hospital (with stamps, etc.) and the English explanation was good enough for him. He really just wanted a document as a proof of the emergency so that he could put it on my file.

If you are going to translate into English the letter, you should probably do it through a certified translator and get a certificatiion for it. Just to make sure they won't put any problems with it!

    Good luck!

  14. Hi,

Last year I was given an emergency AP, is not the expedite but I guess the documents should be the same. You can read my post here:

    http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/415912-emergency-ap/

Is the doctor's letter in English? Mine was, and it stated that I was the daughter of the patient. I think they will ask you for a proof of relationship so I would bring the birth certificate as well. Bring all the documents you have, and whatever you can think of. Even if they have it in your file.

    Buena suerte!

  15. Hi everybody!

I meant to post this a while ago but I completely forgot... I also don't know for sure where I should post this question!

Anyway, I received my greencard this past September (adjusting from K1 without interview). I realized later that I still have my EAD/AP card as I never had an interview. In the welcome package with the greencard they said nothing about the EAD/AP. I am now wondering what am I supposed to do with it? Do I have to give it back to USCIS? If so, how do I do this??

    Thanks!

  16. Thank you for your help!

I thought I had to do the change of address and the change in the social security card but I wanted to make sure before I did!

felicidades!!! yes you need to change and update your address as long as you remain a permanent resident... to my knowledge, your husband does not need to update his address as he is a USC...

in regards to your other question, yes, go to the social security office and show your green card, your verbiage on your card will change from "with USCIS authorization" to just blank without verbiage.... good luck y ¡¡ Bienvenida a los EEUU !!

    Gracias! :)

  17. Hi!

I received my green card (conditional) a week and a half ago and we moved to a new place 2 days later.

Do I still need to change my address with USCIS? Do I have to send the form AR-11 or can I do it online?

Also, does my husband need to change the address too because of the affidavit of support?

And finally, do I have to change my social security number card now that I have my green card?

    Thanks for your help!

  18. Same here! This Monday I got an email stating that my case was approved, yesterday it changed to card production, and today went back to decision.. I was puzzled and kinda scared until I read your post, but I'll wait to get another "card production" email, and then I guess the GC por fin!

Enhorabuena, congrats to all of us! star_smile.gif

Enhorabuena!! I'm sure you will get your GC very soon as well!

My status changed again yesterday saying that USPS picked up my card from USCIS and the tracking number says I should receive it tomorrow! I am sooo excited! dancin5hr.gif
