  1. It shouldn't take long. Someone got their letter in a week and the interview was set for the following week. So it seems to be moving pretty fast now. Mine took a bit longer because it was during a lot of Holidays in Haiti. Good luck! :)

  2. Don't worry. It's common in Haiti--the no receipt thing. Dr. Buteau's office is a well known office who's gone through this process a lot of times. They won't lose his passport and it is probably already recorded in his files that he's paid.

    Breathe. It'll be fine :)

  3. Well, there is really no immediate need. I'm just being impatient. I financial support my fiance in Haiti, so the longer he stays the more my expenses. I can prove that I make 120% of the poverty amount, so that it not a problem. It's just maintaining two households is more costly.

I read of someone being approved due to the petitioner's vacation time at work that would be lost if not taken before the end of the year, which they took off the time to attend the interview.

so, I thought that maybe they would approve if I am incurring extra cost by renewing my lease for our apartment in Haiti.

I know its stretching it a bit, but I thought it may not hurt to ask.

There's nothing wrong with trying. But you might get a better luck by calling everyday to point the service center to the auto-expedite notice they have online for Haiti: see here.

But keep in mind that you many not get it. Called for a couple months and was not granted one. But in the end, it worked out perfectly. 8 months and our approval was on Feb 14 :)

  4. That's odd! Wow. Sorry :(

We dropped ours off on Dec 18 and we received the letter on Jan 4. The Embassy had written it on the 28th. But since it was during the Holidays, we had to wait to get it. So hopefully you get yours within a week or two...Good luck!

  5. Be careful in using financial loss as a reason to expedite, it may come back to bite you when you need to prove you have enough income to support your Fiance in order to have the K1 approved. There is a long wait for this visa, very long in terms of emotional ups and downs while you wait, jumping the line with an expedite request may not be the best idea. Maybe just plan to visit each other often while you wait...good luck

^^THIS. So true... So be careful. If you don't mind me asking, why do you want to speed up the process so much? Do you have a deadline in the States for something important? Also, I don't think they would consider 750 as extreme loss.

  6. Yes!

Read these lovely texts this morning and was again reminded that everything happens for a reason. And God will never give you a cross you cannot bear.

“I believe that everything happens for a reason. People change so that you can learn to let go, things go wrong so that you appreciate them when they're right, you believe lies so you eventually learn to trust no one but yourself, and sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.” -Marilyn Monroe [i do not completely agree with the 'trusting only yourself' part, but you get the idea.]

Sometimes people come into your life and you know right away that they were meant to be there, to serve some sort of purpose, teach you a lesson, or to help you figure out who you are or who you want to become. You never know who these people may be (possibly your roommate, neighbor, teacher, fraternal brother or sister, long lost friend, lover, or even a complete stranger), but when you lock eyes with them, you know that at that very moment they will affect your life in some profound way.

And sometimes things happen to you that may seem horrible, painful, and unfair at first, but in reflection you find that without overcoming those obstacles you would have never realized your potential, strength, willpower, or heart.

Everything happens for a reason. Nothing happens by chance or by means of good luck. Illness, injury, love, lost moments of true greatness, and sheer stupidity all occur to test the limits of your soul. Without the small tests, whatever they may be, life would be like a smoothly paved, straight flat road to nowhere. It would be safe and comfortable, but dull and utterly pointless.

The people you meet who affect your life, and the success and downfalls you experience, help to create who you are and who you become. Even the bad experiences can be learned from. In fact, they are probably the most poignant and important ones. If someone hurts you, betrays you, or breaks your heart, forgive them, for they have helped you learn about trust and the importance of being cautious to when you open your heart. If someone loves you, love them back unconditionally, not only because they love you, but because in a way, they are teaching you to love and how to open your heart and eyes to things. Make every day count.

Appreciate every moment and take from those moments everything that you possibly can for you may never be able to experience it again. Talk to people that you have never talked to before, and actually listen. Let yourself fall in love, break free, and set your sights high. Hold your head up because you have every right to. Tell yourself you are a great individual and believe in yourself, for if you don’t believe in yourself, it will be hard for others to believe in you. You can make your life anything you wish. Create your own life and then go out and live it with absolutely no regrets. Most importantly, if you love someone tell them, for you never know what tomorrow may have in store. And finally, enjoy looking forward to learning a new lesson each day and enjoying the journey.

  7. I think you're in FL? Right.

Here's what I found out for that state...

    For a Marriage License:

    1. Identification: a picture ID such as a driver’s license, state ID card, or valid passport; both parties will also have to provide their Social Security numbers, but do not need to provide their Social Security Cards.

    2. Fees: $93.50. Marriage license fees can be reduced by up to $32.50 if you complete a licensed Florida pre-marital course.

    2. Proof of Social Security number (If you don't have one, you can bring a letter from the SS Administration stating that you never received one or applied for one)

    3. Proof of residential address

    4. Proof of completion of a Traffic Law & Substance Abuse Education Course or license from another state, country, or jurisdiction.
