  1. Hi guys,

I hope you can give me some info. I filed for I751 on Jan 21,2016. So far I haven't received NOA1. I filed through California Service Center. We did not send any check because we are applying for fee waiver. So, I can't find out whether or not my petition was received.

We both have jobs. However, things have been a bit rough lately and I am expecting right now.

Will my applying for fee waiver cause me trouble?

Or is it because I apply for fee waiver, we have not received NOA1 yet?

    Thank you so much!

  2. Does your state actually have a place on the license where you would list the name you want to use after you are married? Some states have that and you just list what you want your name to be after marriage. Some states do not, and only the maiden name shows on the license/certificate. You do not need a court order to change the name. The marriage certificate still acts as a legal name change document in those states. Go to a another SSA or ask for a supervisor.

~ Moved from AOS from Family Based Visas to Social Security Numbers - topic about SSN ~

It is in the tiny box just above the signature. But I was under impression that it should be fine for me to change my SSN card with my new name for no trouble at all. Even the lady at the USCIS confirmed me on that knowledge. That is why I was so frustrated. I even went to the clerk office and they sent me to Civil Court. Then after I got to the court, they had no idea what I was talking about. It was just.. I don't even... Sigh....

  3. We went through the same process, my initial SSC was issued for my maiden name, on our marriage certificate there isn't stipulated the name change after marriage as well, but when I presented my marriage certificate to SS Office, they did change my last name with no problem (I didn't even have GC then yet). We are in WV. I guess each state has its own laws on this issue. Did you present your GC with your changed name to the officer?

I did show her the Green Card but she just denied my request.

  4. Everyone who have replied tp my question, I thank you all. You gave me a peace of mind and really make me feel relieved that at least I have hopes and that I should try one more time.

On Monday I will go back to the SS Office and try one more time. If they still give me a hard time and I will definitely ask for a supervisor.

I really do not want to spend hundreds of dollars just because I am misinformed, you know. We have done each and every step of this process very carefully. So, it will not make us happy at all to be in this position.

Anyways.. thank you again and I will go and try one more time.

  5. That's definitely a pain that they told you you needed a court order. Most SSA offices just want a certified marriage certificate as proof: https://faq.ssa.gov/link/portal/34011/34019/Article/1995/How-do-I-change-the-name-on-a-Social-Security-card

I did see on California's page that a court order is not uncommon for the DMV and SSA to require a court order. Maybe try calling a different SS office? http://www.courts.ca.gov/1051.htm

    Good luck!

Maybe I will try to go there again and show my mariage certificate, and hope they just approve my request. Thanks!

  6. Hi everybody,

I am feeling very confused and sad right now. When I got married, I didn't state in my marriage certificate that I want to change my last name to his. I do plan to change it after though.

Anyways, I went to my Green Card interview and the nice lady who interviewed me offered to change my last name into his on my Green Card. Also, she said that I do not need to go through court order to change my name on the SSN card.

I said yes and when it arrived in the mail, I have my last name changed.

Then, I went to SSA and requested them to change my name on my Social Security card. And they said I can't. Because in my marriage certificate it doesn't say that I took my husband's last name.

I will need to go through court order to have it changed. And it cost me a fortune...

What should I do now? Is the officer in SSA wrong? Or I was wrong?

    Thank you!

  7. Most times you can keep the number you have so you may not even change numbers at all. I wouldn't worry about USCIS since they communicate by mail. Also did you provide a home and cell number on your application? In that case you've provided an alternate number if it really worries you. If there's a 'change of phone # form' someone will speak up.

Hi, thanks for replying. I only provided the cell phone number. I will go and see if I can keep my phone number while changing the provider. Thanks again.

  8. Dear everyone,

I have a quick question. Right now I am in the middle of AOS process. Done my biometric last week. However, I plan to change my phone provider because the number I currently use bill me a lot every month and I wish to quit it.

Do you think its best to wait until I am done with AOS or just go change my phone number? Is there a way to let USCIS know that my phone number is changed?

    Thank you for your time!

  9. Hi everyone,

I am now compiling documents for my AOS. I have got married last November and I also have my SSN delivered to me.

However, when I tried to open a joint account, people at the bank rejected my application. Because my SS Card has a VALID FOR WORK ONLY remark on it.

What kind of SSC does K1 Visa holder get when he/she apply?

Did I get the wrong one?

    Thank you!

  10. Dear everyone,

I have a question regarding I 94 and hopefully some of you have the answer for it.

I arrived in USA, through San Francisco last Sunday.

And when I retrieved my Electronic I 94, it turned out that they spelled my First name and Middle name wrong. Is there anything I can do to correct this?

    Thank you for your time.

  11. Just finished Package 3, and sent an email to the embassy requesting an interview date. Still waiting for a reply, though.

Our wedding is tomorrow - I think I have everything ready - slightly stressing over the paperwork to pick up the licence in the morning on the way to the venue (we had to request a 'waiver' as we are not residents of the state that we're marrying in). I will be glad when we have that particular piece of paper in our hands and on the way to the chapel. Think of us at 2pm tomorrow Central Time as we get to the end of the beginning :-)

    Congratulation for you both. :)

i am happy to read all july filers getting thru with their journey finally. i hope our wait on the noa2 would end soon as it is near 1 year already on july 26 sad.png

Do you have any idea why they take so long?

I thought I was the slowest. I hope you get your approval soon.

    Hugs!

  12. Hi everyone, I just want to make sure I have everything I need.

My fiance will send me all the necessary document for me to respond the Package 3.

Please help me to see if he has everything.

    1. Affidavit of Support : I-134 from him and his parents. Since we are doing co-sponsor.

His lawyer told him that they needed to fill in I-864, though. But after searching on the internet and asking fellow VJers, we found out that I-864 is for my AOS and not K1 visa. Is it true?

    2. Bank Statement : Also both his and his parents. They gave me the latest 3 months.

    3. Tax returns and W2.

    4. Letter of employment.

    5. Pay Stubs.

    6. Letter if Intent to marry me within 90 days.

    7. Passport photos (2 pcs).

Copies of all the I-129f package, NOA1, NOA2, RFE and its response will be emailed to me later, since his lawyer is TOO BUSY to find them for us. Yes, we are actually doing this by ourselves although we hire a lawyer. He is very very unreliable. So I rely to my Visa Journey and hope you can help me.

I really appreciate any responses. God bless.

  13. Maybe the requirements differ from consulate to consulate, but as far as I know you will only need the I-134 for the visa application, even with a co-sponsor. In any case, this should be stated on the checklist from your consulate. The I-864 should only be necessary when you adjust status after your marriage.

Hi! Thank you so much for replying. The check list from the Consulate is only I-134. But my lawyer insists that he uses I-864. Which for me, does not make any sense. I am not his relative. Not yet, anyways.

And also, my lawyer seems to be unreliable so far. That's why I have the needs to double check everything.

    Thank you!

  14. Dear VJers,

I am currently gathering Affidavit of Support for my K1 visa. My question is, my fiance will have his parents as co sponsors.

Do they need to fill in I-864 or I-134?I have been reading and I get mixed answers.

And my lawyer said that they all need to use form I-864. But I somehow, doubt that it's correct.

Should he fill in I-134 or I-864?

And how about his parents? I-864 or I-134?

Is it true that I-864 is used for when I am in the AOS process?

Thank you so much. I hope I can shed a light in this confusion we have.

  15. Hi everyone,

My fiance has just got an email from the Embassy in Jakarta asking my Mailing Address, Email Address and also my contact number.

Is it okay to use my office's address as my mailing address? I live in a boarding house.

I just want to make sure if it's okay to do so.

In my G325A form, I listed the company as my current employment. So the mailing address will be match with the company address.

I don't know.. i just want to make sure. Is it okay?

I have been waiting for a year for this. I do not want to screw things up.

    Thank you!

  16. California is pumping out 6-7 approvals a day and there are working in Jan and Feb. While VSC is November - December and doing about 3 approvals a day.......... These people dont have a clue of what it feels like being away from someone you love i take it..........let one of those office worker give their wife or husband a final hug and kiss and leave with the thought of when you will see them again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Take a deep breath. I went 306 days before they finally approved me. And I was in CSC. Don't worry. There are times when VSC seems to work very very slow. But they catch up up. I can say this to you because I was in your shoes back then. The long and excruciating 306 days. Hang on tight!
