As a K-1 visa holder you have a window from about 2 weeks after arrival to 2 weeks before the I-94 expires in order to apply for a SSN. After that period you must wait for the EAD or GC before the SSA will issue a SSC. SInce the original poster did not get a SSN with the K-1 and has not filed for the EAD, he will have to wait for the GC before applying for a SSN. Or he can file the EAD with the NOA1 for the AOS and not have to pay the fee for the EAD. Either way he will have to wait for some work authorization from the USCIS before being able to get the SSC. Your comment about some states does not apply for the SSA as it is a Federal agency. Now for a DL that is state specific.
Dave
Thanks Dave for making it crystal clear.

Why did you not apply for EAD with AOS? That is what most do.
And yeah, thanks for answering my query with a question!

Because I wasn't sure about not having the SSN

Hello fellow VJ'ers!
We got married a little close to the expiration of my K1 visa. We went to SSN Office and was told that I have to wait till my AOS is complete. Now, this is the question: Can I apply for AED now or should I wait till I get my SSN?
Your reply based on experience will be appreciated. Thanks!

Hello fellow VJers,
So, we finally got married and are now putting together the AOS package. I'm wondering what last name should I use on all the required papers? Should I use my married name now or my maiden name?
Thanks in advance!

Hawaii is US so you can visit... I'm not sure why you wouldn't be able to leave Guam, unless you're trying to go to another international destination which could be an issue since you don't have re-entry docs. If you return to Guam, would it be on a nonstop flight from Hawaii?
Thanks. It's just so confusing coz some say I can't and some say I can. It's going to be a straight flight too.

Hello VJ'ers:
My POE was Guam (US Territory) and we plan to go Hawaii and get married there. I'm getting conflicting information about it. Some say I can't leave Guam since it's my POE. Is this true? Please reply....thanks.

Hi VJ family,
We are getting prepared for our interview in about 3 weeks. For proof of an ongoing relationship, we have thousands of lines of Skype messages (over 100,000 messages back and forth)...and that is AFTER we have scrubbed the "private" stuff out. Obviously, this is too much to print out. What have you all done to condense your chat logs into a user-friendly version of your proof of relationship? Would love to hear your ideas.
Misha and Jeff
We all tend to over-prepare for proof of relationship/communication. I had (like so many others here) a 3" binder of Yahoo! FB, Skype and email compilation. During my interview, I was asked by the pre-screener person if I have any proof of on going communication, I said, YES! The screener just nodded her head. The American Consul didn't even ask me during my interview. So, yeah, don't bring too much. Good luck. Remember, the interview is just for FORMALITY's sake.

Thank you for the great advice! We will definately include as many pics as we can together and I'll try to include a substantial amount of our emails to one another. Neither of us are nervous about the interview, but we just want to know what to expect. So are we including the "evidence" with the initial documentation AND bringing an additional copy to the interview??? Do we both go through separate interviews initially??? or would Rick be the only one recieving an interview before we get married?
In regards to the tax thing, I'm still in college, so I'm a dependent...is that going to effect us at all???
~Jordan
Hi. The petitioner doesn't have to be there for the interview. For the filing of I-129F, I would include pictures (5 is sufficient) plane tickets, if you don't have them, a copy of passport with bio and date stamps. Proof that you've seen each other within the past two years. Then during the interview, bring along the artillery, so to speak.
So, you're in college. Sorry to be blunt but, yes, that can be an issue. If you have a job that doesn't meet the poverty level, you can ask your parents to CO-SPONSOR you. I'm sure they'll approve of it.
Good luck!

Let's pray embassy consuls will not scrutinize every paper.I will hve my interview on NOV.23, I am bit worried coz my fiancee sent me his photocopy of I-134 form but the rest are original copies. Will it be ok if only a photocopy for his 1 134? thnks a lot fellow members
Josie
You have to have the original I-134 that bears the original signature of the sponsor (your fiance)

The Embassy is a government entity and are required to keep PII. Identity theft is rampant anywhere. So, to put your minds at ease, there are companies out there who can play watchdog for your credit/identity and get protected. Google them.
As far as the interview, most Consul don't even ask for bank statements. Provided your petitioner meets the criteria on poverty level.
Good luck and chill.

while registering in ustraveldocs i got stucked in step 8 tat asks for receipt number,, i entered the dd number but it doesnt accept.. any help
It will be better to have your fiance make the appointment over the phone in the States. No hassles there.

Hi there! Just take a bunch of pictures. Keep plane tickets, hotel receipts and such. When I went to my interview the Consul only looked at a couple of our pictures together. I brought with me some 100 pieces and a stack of Yahoo! FB chats, of which I was just asked if I have them. When I said YES, the Consul didn't even bother to look at them. But it's always good to have them ready. First, because it will put you at ease knowing you have them. Second, just incase the Consul actually look for it. ONE KEY THING: Just relax. The interview isn't like a KGB kinda thing. A couple of basic questions. Just make sure you have ALL of the required papers in proper order. Have all your ducks in a row. Interview is nothing but formality.
And oh yeah, your TAXES that's very important. If you're above poverty line then it's gonna be a smooth sailing.
Hit me up if you need assistance on anything. GOOD LUCK.

First thing first. Establish the relationship. Prove that you've met in the last two years. Get a good job and save. Stop thinking too far ahead. We all crawled before we learned to walk.
Good luck on your journey.

we have talked with uscis and they said there will be no conflict.. our k1 will just be automatically terminated.. we have sent though our k1 withdrawal and also sent in our cr1 petition.. we got the noa1 (confirmation email) yesterday... in the cover letter my hubby stated that we have sent a request for withdrawal of our k1 coz we got married..
Another thing..since your now husband is in the military, I'm wondering whether he went the right route. As military members, they are REQUIRED to request their command to marry a foreign national.
I hope he did, because it may put him in a bad predicament. Ask your husband if he did. If not, he needs to contact his LEGAL OFFICE.

They have approved us though we dont have letter of intents, no pics together, my visa photo on bond paper and some other mistakes on hubby's (fiance before) bio info.. GEEEEZZZZ.. idk how did this happen.. im really expecting RFE why hubby flew here suddenly and just got married on oct 9th... lol..
anyway, to those VSC filers who have been impatiently waiting, we are MAY filer... VSC is moving forward cheers !!!!
Post Decision Activity
On October 25, 2012, we mailed you a notice that we have approved this I129F PETITION FOR FIANCE(E). Please follow any instructions on the notice. If you move before you receive the notice, call customer service at 1-800-375-5283.
For approved applications/petitions, post-decision activity may include USCIS sending notification of the approved application/petition to the National Visa Center or the Department of State. For denied applications/petitions, post-decision activity may include the processing of an appeal and/or motions to reopen or reconsider and revocations.
Congratulations! But now, another WAITING time begins. You should've just waited for the K1 interview. I know for a fact that K3 visa is long than K1. But there's hope...you can ask to have it expedited using your husband's military status (i.e., if he's about to deploy) My fiance did that. And our VISA was issued in just 77 days from the time we filed our I-129F.
Good luck!

Hello to all!
I just scheduled my k1 interview at USEM here in Manila city. We are already preparing financial documents. I am really worried that we got denied because:
1. we only met twice, July 2007, and July 2011.
2. His current income is $19,000 before taxes (gross, he only rent the place he lives in.
3. We only have few pictures, NO snail mail, but we got yahoo chat logs.
4. and he wont be with me in the interview.
Do you think those would be grounds for denial?
Hi. Let me try to answer your query by the number.
1. The requirement is that you must have seen each other within the last two years...so you're good.
2. According to NPR.ORG the current poverty line for a family of four (4) IS $24,000.00 So, with that, I'm hoping that your fiance doesn't have more than 3 dependents. If none, then you're on the clear.
3. How many is a few pictures? During my interview, the CO only looked at three (3) of ours. But I had more than a hundred. Remember, USCIS only requires five (5) but it won't hurt to have more than that. Regarding your chat logs. You still have time to build up more chats. Use SKYPE screen capture. Email each other everyday between now and your interview day. Complile them and present it IF they even ask. Plane tickets if you have them. Money remittances and such.
Let me assure you....if you have all your ducks in a row, the interview is nothing but formality.
Just make sure you have your papers in sequence so the pre-screeners and the CO's won't have to dig it up and you'll have a smooth process.
I know a lot of this is anxiety. Just relax. PRAY and TRUST in God. He knows what's good for you.
He'll grant you the desires of your heart according to HIS will.
I won't say good luck.....I'd say GOD is on control (only if you let HIM)
God bless and may the Lord guide you.

Congratulations! We got our visa issued in 77 days. I'm happy for the both of you!
-
wow this is awesome, congrats anyways, are you expedite or just in normal process
My fiance requested for an expedited case. They approved it. And got our NOA2 in 15 days.
Praises be to God!

First of all I WOULD LIKE TO GIVE PRAISE to my LORD and SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST for answering our prayers. My waiting is finally over. The Lord has been faithful. I still can't get over the fact that HE granted me my visa in just 77 days. God is good. God is good indeed! Praying for all of us here in VJ. God bless you all!

You're good as long as it's within 90 days before expiry date. I'd mail it as registered and express mail just to have peace of mind.
