Case Status online updated yesterday and got the letter today, all clear

Got the letter for biometrics a few days ago, was thinking of doing an early bio but I'm going to be busy the next few weeks and the time I got is actually pretty convenient for my schedule so I think I'll just keep it.

We did 2 checks, they cashed both, I think it might be fine either way.

No NOA yet, but they cashed the checks. It poped on my account yesterday. My bank is extremly fast at showing wire transfers/checks though(I always get paid a day before my coworkers because of that)

For the interview: 1kg or 2kg envolope ??

Record for fastest between filing the I-130 and getting the visa? I have no idea, but I expect less than a month, probably a week or two. There have been some fast DCF cases in the past. But if you want to compare yourself, you need to look at the two different categories, one where the petitioner is living abroad and generally has a faster process and the second where the petitioner doesn't live abroad with a typically longer process.

I feel like DCF is cheating though, but I do wonder what's the fastest non-DCF case. Of course it would have to be someone who benefited from the filing from abroad auto-expedited thing.

I think trouble here is anything that differs from the usual "Hi, passport please, welcome". IMO being honest and writing it on the form was the best thing to do.

If it's on the form he might get asked about it at the interview, he should just tell the truth and explain what happened. The fact that he was honest with border patrol is going to work in his favor when he explains it.

101 days between mailing the I-130 and receiving the passport back from the embassy! In part thanks to VJ.

What does that really mean though - it may be that they aren't sending the requests to the embassies anymore but if they hear back, you get your interview. My optimistic take anyway!

It means they're done with the major batch of appointments, but they'll still schedule some as cancellations/other factors open/reopen some november slots.

First they schedule, then they send the case to the embassy.

NVC operators can't see if a document has been received, they only see once it's processed/approved so that's normal

If you're doing Electronic Processing, they do, otherwise, it's extremely rare. The next email will be to give you an interview date.

Your case might not be delayed, it might be complete, but the only way to know that is to ask them.

Call them. It's definitely NOT next to impossible.

You can print while it's in process. The point of waiting is that if for some reason the payment is delayed or there's an issue, you might have to re-send everything.

This is a very complicated case, with, from what I understand, fraud and deportation. Even if she gets an annulment now, gets married again and re-applies it's not going to be easy. She needs a lawyer.

Well yes and no, there is no deadline, but based on last month's interview thread there is a time period of a few days each months when most interviews get scheduled.

I'm not 100% sure about this but I believe all interviews happen in Paris. That's the only thing that happens at the embassy though, everything else is by mail so you'd only have to take the train up once.

You cannot file at the embassy. Filling from abroad is done by sending documents to the chicago lockbox.

It's better to file while he's in Paris, or at least it was until august. There is (was?) a sort of auto-expedited process through USCIS when filing from abroad. Many of us benefited from it and it allows people to go through USCIS in a couple of weeks as opposed to several months. If you're diligent during the rest of the process and well prepared, it can be done in 4 months total.

HOWEVER since august there was a change and petitions to USCIS are now being transferred. We don't really know yet how this will impact approval time, and if the auto-expedited process will still work. If it doesn't work anymore then you're probably looking at about 8-9 months to go through the all process, if you're well prepared.
