  1. For those who haven't viewed my timeline, I got the interview date! It's on the 26th of December.

    So not waiting anymore. :D :D

    congrats!!!

    Out of curiosity when did you submit your IV package to NVC?

    Thanks and congratulations again!

    I sent the IV packet with the AOS packet on October 5.

    i send my iv packet on 25 oct but no reply yet ,still waiting for case to complete,2 april was date of case filled at uscis ,is it on normal speed or late .

    Call the NVC up. They'll let you know the latest status of your case. They usually only send an email if there is an RFE or when the interview date has been scheduled.

  2. Here is the template I used for mine:

    Date: <date letter issued>

    Re: Employment verification for <insert your name here>

    To Whom It May Concern:

    This letter is to confirm that <your name> has been employed with <organization> since <date employment started>. <your name> is currently working with us as <your position>. His/her annual salary is <amount> as of fiscal year 2012.

    Please feel free to contact us if your office should require further information.

    Sincerely,

    <signature of supervisor/boss>

    <name of supervisor/boss>

    <title of supervisor>

    <name of organization>

    If company letterhead doesn't include contact info, then you should include under name of organization that as well.

    The letter goes with your Affidavit of Support(form I-864) packet.

  3. Last Friday I got an email from NVC. I opened it, and they were requesting the AOS packet and...AAAARRRGGHHH!...the police certificate! Called them up, and the lady who answered said that they need one from SINDH, which is a province in Pakistan. Now, my wife is from Karachi, which just happens to be IN Sindh, and the cops in Karachi are known as....SINDH POLICE. This fact is mentioned two times on the police certificate, and the second time it's mentioned it's in BIG PRINT...so anyone who even has a little bit of eyesight can see it! I mentioned this to the lady, and she talked to a supervisor. Came back to me and told me to send an explanatory not, along with a copy of the police cert with Sindh police highlighted. Sent the documents off on Saturday, so should have reached now.

    Just to test them, I called today AGAIN. Same story, and the guy I talked to consulted a supervisor, who said that they would take another look, which would take them 10 to 15 days, just to look at two lines of text! This is actually the only thing holding up my case. Thankfully today the guy told me that everything is fine with the AOS docs.

    I just hope that they accept the police certificate! It really was a big hassle getting it, and I had to enlist the help of my relatives in Pakistan.

    Sorry, I just had to rant.

  4. Thanks for posting that comprehensive checklist and their responses! They haven't sent me the request for those documents yet but I wanted to go ahead and send it to my husband (who I've nominated as agent) so that he can send it immediately once they do and it can reach them quicker than it would from Pakistan. I just wanted to get all the possible documents together.

    The NIC is the National Identity Card (Shanakhti Card) that NADRA issues Pakistani citizens. It's mentioned in their list of civil documents by country list. They might not ask for it in my case but I figured I would send it to my husband just in case.

    What is the computerized Nikahnama? I just have the English version of the one from our actual nikah that has my signature and my husband's. All the information is hand-written by my wali (representative), signed by the Imam and bears the Registrar's stamp.

    I have 3 original documents from Pakistan which prove my marriage:

    1. Large sheet of paper in urdu(really low quality paper!) - this is known as the Nikah nama which you get from the Masjid/Imam. It has everyone's signatures obtained during the Nikah.

    2. Large sheet of paper in English - also from the Masjid I got married at. You could also call this the Nikah Nama. This also has everyone's signatures obtained during the Nikah.

    3. A4 sized document titled "Marriage Registration Certificate." This can be referred to as the 'computerized Nikah Nama.' To obtain this, you get a form from the local Union Council(UC) office, fill it out, and submit it along with copies of NIC/NICOPs of husband, wife, and the fathers of both, as well as a copy of the Urdu Nikah Nama.

  5. 5. I forgot one more really simple tip: Sign up for a calling card service which links directly to your phone. You won't need to enter your pin every time you call. Also use the Pause feature when using a calling card, accessed by holding the star button. On my Android phone, when I call overseas, I type the access number for the calling card, add a pause (shows up as "P"), type the number of the person I want to call, and then press call. This makes the call show up in that person's call history.

  6. I stayed in a guest house close the Diplomatic Enclave when I went for my visit visa interview. Had a really good experience. It was very safe, clean and reasonably priced. Set time with Metro Cab in advance to pick me up at 6 am from the guest house and take me to the Enclave.

    I believe there are a number of other guest houses too on Aga Khan Road which is close to the Enclave in case this one isn't available. Otherwise anything in sector G6 (where the Diplomatic Enclave is located) should be okay. Here is a link to the guest house I stayed at:

    Thanks for the info. Will come in handy when I do need to go to Islamabad.

  7. Since keeping a record of an ongoing relationship is extremely important when sponsoring your loved one, I thought I'd share some tips on record keeping based on my experience.

    1. Buy an Android-based phone. I got one 2 months ago, and I wish I had one before that, since keeping a record of text messages and phone calls has become much easier. There is an app called SMS Backup+ that saves all your sms messages and call history to your Gmail account. This will make it easier to print out your call history and sms messages.

    2. If you are using Skype, there is an easier method of printing out call history than taking screenshots. A program called SkypeLogView enables you to save your Skype history in a text file. You can also select the type of history you want to save, e.g. calls, files sent/received, chat and sms messages.

    3. We used Yahoo messenger to IM each other. It saves all your chat history with timestamps, and you can print out your entire chat history with the print feature.

    4. If you have a Nokia phone which has Bluetooth or USB connectivity and then switch to Android, you can import your SMS messages from your Nokia phone to your Android phone. Install Nokia Suite, sync your sms messages from your phone to your PC, and export your messages to a .csv (comma separated values) file. Install an app called SMS Importer on your Android phone. If you decide to pay for the full version of this app, it will make things easier, since the Lite version only allows 100 messages to be imported at one time. If you stick with the Lite version, you will need to play around with the .csv file, for which you need a spreadsheet program such as MS Excel. Here's how you do it:

    a. Separate received messages from sent messages. Select all columns except column A, go to sort and filter, and do custom sort. Sort data by Column B. All your received messages will be separated from sent messages.

    b. If you have more than 100 messages, you will need to create multiple csv files with 100 messages in each file. You can name the files with received messages as inbox1.csv, inbox2.csv, and so on. Files with sent messages can be named as sent1.csv, and so on.

    c. Copy the csv files to your phone.

    d. Open SMS Importer. You will need to manually type the location of the stored file, as well as the filename. There are two destinations for imported messages: Inbox and Sent. Make sure you select the correct destination according to the file you have opened. Dont worry if it says you have more than 100 messages in your csv file. If you've made sure each file has only 100, all your messages will be imported.

    e. Enjoy having all your messages in one place.

    Note: SMS Importer recognizes the Nokia Suite formatting and imports the messages accordingly. If your messages have been imported from another type of phone into csv format, you may need to change the settings in order to preserve the dates and times, as well as the formatting of the messages themselves.

    Hope this can help someone trying to keep a record of their correspondence.

    If anyone has any questions, PM and I will try to help out. I may not know the answer, but I will do my best to help.

  8. Problem is, my temp address is in Karachi central and hers is in Karachi East. I think I'll err on the side of caution and get two PCCs made.

    It's bad enough when you have never lived in Pakistan and are at the mercy of others to get to know the system there, but it's even worse when the even the locals can't help you because they don't have experience either. Only way to learn how to get things done is through hard knocks.

  9. Since I have a Pakistani ID with a Pakistani address on it, when my wife made a new id after our marriage, it showed her current residence at my address. Due to this change, when I went to get a Police clearance certificate for her, I was sent to my local SP office rather then hers, which means that her PCC will show my temporary address rather than hers. In addition, she has lived at muliple addresses in Karachi since the age of 16. Do I need a PCC from every district, or will just one suffice?

  10. Have you already got NOA-1 letter from USCIS? If so, I recommend to send updated G325-A form along-with a photocopy of your NOA1 letter for their reference. Before doing that I suggest to call USCIS to find out their suggestion on this. It's good that you figured out your mistake now rather than after few months during wait time.

    Thanks for the replies everyone! I guess I'll call USCIS first thing Monday.
