  1. Hi! This process can be really complex and overwhelming at first. I don't know how many times I had to read it and write it down for myself to just get the overall picture! After I got the big picture, my approach has been to focus on each step at a time - I'm not a good multitasker smile.png

    It's very weird, but the first two posts seem to have been deleted sad.png

    I hope they come back. For now, until we hear more about what happened, you can check them at the previous thread (February): http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/478133-nvc-filers-february-2014/

    The thread is closed, so there's no way to comment. But Posts 1 and 2 are still there.

    Hmm, you are right, they seem to be missing. Wonder why?

  2. Thought I'd share my experience.

    My husband and I got married in the US May 19 2012. He is a USC and I am Canadian citizen. After the wedding I returned home and began to visit him roughly once a month, sometimes he'd visit me. I usually drove, sometimes I flew. I have never had an issue crossing the border. Always told them I was going to visit my husband. Asked a few times if I was moving there, but never asked for any documentation to prove that. Never called into secondary inspection until just recently.

    My husband came to visit me the first week of February, and seeings as I was unemployed, I figured I would travel back to the US with him and stay two weeks and travel back to Canada via greyhound. BIG MISTAKE!! WE pulled up to the booth, asked the regular questions, citizenship, reason for visit and so on. Thought we were good to go til the CBP officer keeps our passport and sends us to secondary. We parked the car and walked into the CBP office with about 50 other people. Proceeded to wait 30 minutes til my name was called. I was questioned first and searched, then my husband was questioned. Then the officer proceeded to go check the vehicle. They were worried that I was going to stay in the US. WE had all the information with us, Return bus ticket, my phone bill, my car registration,(really the only ties to Canada I had) but the NOA2 was in the car. The CBP officer came back with the NOA2 and said "that's all I needed" and sent us on our way. Bus ticket wasn't good enough to show proof of me returning, or the fact that my car was still in Canada. All he needed was that NOA2, cuz as he stated "You's spent a lot of money to get this piece of paper, just carry this with you the next time you come to visit your husband" Nothing to sign, no stamp in my passport. After two hours of this "Have a nice time" Really??

    Doesn't make sense to me, I had no job, am living with my mom, so no proof of domicile, no REAL ties to Canada, but yet all he needed was that NOA2??

    I guess it all depends on the CBP officer you get. All I know is they sure know how to make you feel like you're doing something wrong.

    After the experience I had, I wouldn't suggest travelling to the US with your USC spouse.

  3. Per Saylin's MTL guide: Keep in mind, you should only email the two packages (AOS and IV) after you've gotten the acceptance email saying your case can now be processed electronically. You can find an example of what it says below in the section labelled Correspondence (it may have changed slightly since 2011).

    I know that I didn't mail my things until after I received the ENROLL e-mail. Maybe ask an operator?

    OK, Got it. Does make sense, but why would the Department of State not put that in THEIR instructions? Anybody that is doing their own immigration and not on this handy dandy website would not know to wait, and could possibly be delayed due to receiving wrong information from the Department of State?

  4. You should not send the emails for EP until after you have a confirmation that they have accepted your ENROLL email. It is NOT the auto respons

    I think this is something that needs to be clarified

    According to the instructions here http://travel.state.gov/content/visas/english/immigrate/immigrant-process/documents/submit/how-to-submit-documents-to-the-nvc.html there is no mention of having to wait to receive an ENROLL accepted email before emailing anything to NVC. This is what is says:

    Group B: Optional Electronic Processing - Choose from below

    If your case is processing as part of Group B (see Table 1 above), then you may choose between electronic or mailing forms and documents to NVC.

    Electronic >> (Submit scanned forms and documents by email)

    If you wish to use electronic processing, you must first opt-in to electronic processing by following the steps below.

    1. Send an email to the NVC at NVCElectronic@state.gov.
    2. Enter the code “ENROLL” followed by your NVC Case Number in the Subject line of the email. For example: ENROLL GUZ2009123123. Refer to ONE CASE per email.
    3. Include in the body of the email:
      • Your name;
      • Your NVC case number;
      • The petitioner’s name and date of birth (if the visa petition is employment based, include the employer’s company/organization name instead of the petitioner’s name and date of birth);
      • The principal applicant’s name and date of birth; and
      • List all email addresses where you wish to receive correspondence from the NVC regarding your case.

        NOTE: If you chose to submit forms and documents electronically by email, then you MUST continue to submit all forms and documents by email.

    4. Once you have sent your opt-in e-mail to the NVC, you may follow the Group A: Electronic Processing guidelines above to submit documents to the NVC.

    No mention of waiting for ENROLL accepted email before emailing the AOS or IV.

    Saylin can you verify this as there seems to be a discrepancy somewhere? Saylin did you wait for the ENROLL accepted email before you emailed anything to NVC?

  5. Now that you mention it I don't know. The 2nd post in this thread says nothing about that nor does the Montreal wiki page I was using. Saylin or anyone else can you clarify? Thank you!

    As of today they dont have my AOS packet but others have taken 7 business days which will be tomorrow for me. So if they dont have it by tomorrow I will resend it just incase I was supposed to wait.

    NVC web page here http://travel.state.gov/content/visas/english/immigrate/immigrant-process/documents/submit/how-to-submit-documents-to-the-nvc.html doesn't say anything about waiting for email either, so I think you might be ok. This is what it says

    Once you have sent your opt-in e-mail to the NVC, you may follow the Group A: Electronic Processing guidelines above to submit documents to the NVC.

  6. When naming pdf's for the AOS Section i.e. tax transcripts, pay stubs, after the case number in the file name do we put the sponsors name or the beneficiary's name. So if Jane Doe is the immigrant and John doe is sponsoring her do we put case#_John_Doe_Tax_Transcripts or is it case#_Jane_Doe_Tax_Transcripts

    I-864 is for the sponsor to fill out. So it would be case#_sponsors name_Transcripts.

  7. So I just got off the phone with the NVC after waiting a week since my NOA2 date to call and see if they have my case. They said they don't have it and that it takes 8 weeks to receive it. wow.gif . Has anyone else seen this to be the case and had to wait 8 weeks? What has the average time been lately until NVC receives the case? I'm flabbergasted and thought it would only take a week or two, at the most.

    You can go here to Saylins chart to get an idea how long each step of the process takes

  8. Ok so just for the heck of it I just tried calling the NVC....however I keep getting a busy signal. Does it have to be a land line that I call from or can I call from my cell phone ( I cancelled our landline)??

    I call from cell phone all the time. Busy signal is typical, just hang up and dial again, and doing that til you get through. took me 20 times at 1030 last night before I got through

  9. Hoping someone on here is computer savy. I am trying to scan all my documents into computer to send to NVC. I scan and save them as PDF. Scanned at 300ppi. The income tax return alone is over 9MB it is12 pages, I tried scanning at a lower ppi, file is about 6MB, but when printed out it is barely ledgeable. When it comes time to do paystubs there will be 16- 20 pages. So need to figure this out. Any ideas on how cut down on file size but keep the quality. I am using HP printer, and do not have Adobe Acrobat, only Adobe Reader. Any help would greatly be appreciated.

  10. Not a good day today. If it weren't for that ****ing backlog in NBC way back when then we could have had our visa by now and I wouldn't have to be working at this ###### show they call a "school".

    Oh good god July could not get here soon enough. Even if we don't have the visa by then I'm quitting in July. I can't handle this place anymore.

    C'mon case number next week!!!

    Our Time lines are similar, I will be watching you to see when you get your case #.

  11. "This case is in the process of termination. Fee payments and online forms can no longer be accepted. If you believe you have received this message in error, or to resume processing of the case, please contact the NVC immediately."what is the meaning of this?? anyone?

    The answer to this can be found in post 1 and 2 of this thread. Please read the posts as you are missing out on some valuable information that Saylin has prepared for us.

  12. I've got a section on my wiki about scanning and how to add case numbers digitally wink.png If you don't have Adobe Acrobat, you can use Photoshop to add the numbers, or you can hand-write them in, then scan it, or you can use post-it notes and scan them in. (If you use post-it notes, you technically only need one and just re-use it for each paper you scan in wink.png )

    It used to be one big PDF file, but a couple months ago, they re-designed their website and updated the EP section. I updated my wiki a few weeks ago about this, also in the scanning section.

    Thanks Saylin. Post it notes sounds like a great idea. Going to check out your wiki now.

  13. I did wink.png You'd be surprised how NVC can lose papers, even digital ones rolleyes.gif

    How would I do that? I don't have the full version of Adobe Acrobat. Do I put case # on everything, including what is supposed to be original documents? I suppose I can hand print case# on as I have to scan them all in anyway. Should it be one big file attachment or several small attachments ie Tax return, letter of employment, pay stub etc
