  1. Hello everyone!

Is port of entry the first airport you land in the United states? My hubby is coming from Lima then he has a stop in Costa Rica from there he has another stop in Los Angeles and finally the last stop in Salt Lake City. So in his case his port of entry is in Los Angeles?

  2. Hello everybody,

Mom will be having her interview in a few weeks for her immigrant visa. I had a question about DHL. Do you need to set an account prior to go to the interview? Also, with your experience, Which DHL location seem to be faster to get your passport return with the visa? Any comments will be strongly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    enrels2012~

Hi there. My husband had his interview on October 10th we were doing a CR-1 type of visa. My husband didn't have to have an account at the DHL. After the getting the interview approval they just handed him a sheet of paper with instructions about how to set up an account and decide where you want your visa delivered. Right after his interview was approved we got online and followed the instructions on the sheet of paper to set up an account and put where we wanted his passport and visa to be sent to. Since he lives in Trujillo, Peru he decided to pick it up there and it just took 2 days to be ready at the DHL office in Trujillo. On October 12 his visa and passport were ready for him to pick them up. I hope my husbands experience could help you with your question. :]

  3. I went through it last Sunday. The line was kinda long, when I got to the window he asked my purpose about coming to the US I said I'm an immigrant he asked for the passport, packet I gave it to him and he took the yellow envelop, gave me back the vaccination record and cd, took a photo of me and biometrics and told me to sit down and wait for me to be called. I waited for an hour or so because they finished all the ones in line first before someone called me up and asked me to sign 2 pages of paper and my fingerprint and waited again another guy called me up gave me back my arrival card and 2 pages of paper w/ my passport & said "u can go pick your luggage, have a good day" he showed me the way to the baggage area. It was smooth I was just nervous because paranoia is my twin :D lol but it all in all a stress free exp. I'm now in SD. Good luck!

Thank you so much for your reply. Really good information thank you again now my husband wont be too nervous. :]

  4. Awww yay!! Isn't it the best feeling knowing that this whole thing is almost over??

My husband's interview is Monday morning first thing, so it'll be Sunday in the middle of the night for me! We'll be booking his flight as soon as we have our visa in hand as well :)

Congrats to you and your hubby!

Yes definitely an awesome feeling! Thank you an good luck on your husband's interview.

  5. I've seen the same as you. My husband will be coming in through LAX later this month. I don't think the process will be much different from K-1, other than I have heard there is some additional processing that happens at the POE for CR-1 visas, so it might take a little longer...but the reviews for LAX look pretty painless so I'm not too worried.

When is your coming home?? :)

Yes, it seems that their is some additional processing. His flight is on October 18 he will be home on the 19 right in the morning.

  7. I've had mail sent USPS to Serpost lost several times, including important documents. That taught me to always send important materials via DHL or FedEx. Do you have a tracking number where you can confirm that it left the US and when? Does your husband live in Lima or in the provinces (that would slow it down once it arrives in Peru)?

Is it paperwork you could scan and send instead?

He lives in Trujillo so maybe that is why is taking long on the tracking it just says when it left which it was September 18 at 6:00p.m

It was my plane tickets but someone told me that I can just email him the initiatory email and take that instead if he doesn't receive the documents on time. Serpost is such a bad mail carrier.

Maybe because ur husband is living far from Lima, it takes time, is it a regular mail or certified?

What papers do you need to send him to the interview? My husband is sending his divorce certif, what else?

Hope he get it soon, =)

  8. Oh my! My hubby's interview is close approaching (Oct. 10th) and we are worried because I had sent him some documents so he can take them with him to the interview (in Lima) and he has not yet received them. I send them on September the 18, using Priority Mail International via USPS it says 6-10 days, but yea he has not received anything yet. Has anyone have this happen to them or something similar?

  9. thank you very much for your good wishes..ill tell you more less how was this last part of the process. Well first I didnt received the packet on time so i had to go to the embassy from 9 to 11 to get a copy of it. I Inmediately programmed the health exam which was for a week later and went to get my certificado penal y judicial, long queues but they give them in the moment.

The health exam was awful!not a nice secretary..I was ready for that cause i read some feedbacks here. The doctor asked me for my medical record and made a vaginal exam(which i didnt feel so comfortable with)then got my lungs xrays and blood test and waited 1week for the results.Everything was ready 2weeks before my interview. Got all the evidence I found and arrange it in files.

In the interview I was aked the same questions: where did you meet?and how many visits did my fiance make?was very fast and i was angry to see they only asked me for photos as evidence,I had receipt, emails, skype, skype pics, yahoo chats but nothing!!Finally they granted the visa...but i feel they made the decision before the interview, they were just confirming what they thought.Hope this ...

Nice! Congrats! I'm glad everything went fast and you were approved. :] Did you even need the certificados penales and judiciales? I send those in to the NVC.

  10. Order Tax Transcripts from the IRS and send copies of that. If you look in the instructions for most applications there is a sections that has the title COPIES and it will tell you that legible copies are required unless originals are specifically asked for. If you should send in an original when not asked for you will not get it back and it will become part of your file.

Tax Transcripts are what you actually filed with the IRS and are much better than just a copy of the 1040 form. If you do make copies of the 1040, maker certain it is signed and dated.

    Good luck,

    Dave

Since I'm going to send him copies of the 1040 form with the signature and all can I just email them to him and he can print them out? So I won't need to send them by regular mail?

  11. VJ members have been reporting that the DHL system is different now and the Embassy's website says the same. OP, what did your interview letter say? Were there instructions for using the Embassy in Peru's usavisa-info.com website? It's located here

This is how they've been handing DHL, to my knowledge, for about the past year. See here, as well.Lima consulate page on returning passport and visa

No, it did not say anything about using the Embassy in Peru's website.

  12. After the approval at the embassy, they will have you go to the DHL kiosk outside of the building but still in the embassy walls to fill out the paperwork to get the visa in the passport, we had the choice of getting it delivered or picking it up at the DHL office in Lima. We had our interview on a Monday and picked it up at the DHL office on the Wednesday and left for the USA that night, although I hear we were pretty lucky and processing times can vary. I hope this helps and good luck with your journey.

Nice! Thank you so much for explaining that to me. I'm glad to hear that you get to choose if you want it delivered or if you can just pick it up yourself.
