    Hi Steve,

    The shipping cost from a Vietnamese shipping company in northern CA is , $25 for first 10 pound and then $3 per pound and it takes about 2 weeks to get there. You can ship your package from N.Carolina to the shipping company here and they can ship to VN for you. If you are interested I can get you their phone #. Custom tax is basing solely on the contents of the package. Alcohol, cigs and hi-tech items are hit very hard with tax.

    KoJ, I would very much like to have their contact information.

    From NC it has been taking at least 20 days to arrive in Ho Chi Minh, DaNang takes about 25 days.

    Which state are you in? There are quite a few reliable Vietnamese shipping companies in VN. The alternative is DHL, they are cheaper.

    I am in North Carolina. I will check DHL & Fedex, last time I looked at Fedex their rates were over $100 for a small package. I like the thought of being able to track the package all the way. Does customs still hit the packages pretty hard when shipping DHL and Fedex?

    How does Vietnam come up with the tax amount of the packages?

    Thank you for the replies.

    Yes I have had USPS packages go to Vietnam and come back... Delivered to the wrong address and the person that recieved the package delivered it to my Fiancee.

    I have never used UPS or Fedex. Will they deliver to her house or do I need to have delivered to a business or have her pick up at the shipping office?

    Was hoping to get some input for safe shipping to Vietnam. I have only used the USPS in the past, but seems like as soon as my package or letters hit Vietnam, I cross my fingers and hope they make it to my Fiancee.

    I am getting ready to mail a stack of papers to her which will include origional documents in preperation for her interview. What is the safest way to send this to her, that won't cost a small fortune?

    Also would like to send her some gifts, the last package I sent was delivered to her opened and damaged with a tax bill to be paid before she could recieve it.

    Any input would be great... thank you.

    Hoi An is a very nice place to visit; however, this month is the midst of heavy rain and possible flood. Check the weather first. I will also travel to VN this month. Will spend Christmas & New year with Thuy. I can't wait.

    My round trip ticket is $1800. :-(

    Are you flying from the West Coast? Seems like it's always more expensive from the East Coast where I live. Just a couple days difference in departure made big difference too. If I could leave a week earlier, would have saved $100's. Oh well, all paid for and started packing already! Wooooo!

    how much is airfare now? xmas and tet are usually 1.5x over the slow season.

    Wow... I didn't want to think about the cost of airfare again..ha! Was very expensive $2700 Just can't put a price on this trip. Very expensive, but so very much worth every penny.

    Just wanted to share with everyone that I am traveling again to Vietnam over the holidays! Very excited and much looking forward to seeing Hanh Anh, Family and Friends! Hanh Anh and I will be traveling to Saigon, DaNang & Hoi An! New Years in Hoi Anh with the one I love! Can't wait!
