  1. I found out that it will cost my husband 400$/month to add me to his policy wich is very basic. I was wondering if it would not be better to have my own health insurance ? I did not adjust status yet (we got married Dec 1st)but would it be a problem ? So far I do have my SSN

It all depends on his employer. Some may cost next to nothing, others a lot. While it may be cheaper for you to get health insurance on your own, you have to consider the fact that you haven't adjusted status yet, you're not employed as yet and your overall state of health. Also you have to consider your field of expertise and where you may end up getting a job. If you get a part-time job, they may not offer insurance. It all depends...........

  2. Hi guys,

I'm new to this forum, my wife has a visa interview (Super excited!) at the end of January, 2013. I was curious, if she gets approved for a CR1 visa, to enter in the United States, what is the process of passport visa delivery?

I'm aware that the CO holds on to the passport, and stamps the visa. Is the Passport mailed to us or do we pick it up at the Embassy? I assume they will give us this information at the Embassy after the interview, but I need to plan travel times and some other personal affairs.

I have conflicting information, at a few places I have read that the visa can be picked up next day, at others, I have read that the Embassy process time is about 7-10 days and that it is mailed. Do we have a choice how to pick it up?

The Embassy that her interview will be held is in Belgrade, Serbia.

    Thanks in advance!

    - Kind regards

    It depends on the Embassy...

  3. I'm not sure what that means, but it could be that they've assigned an alien registration number to your fiance, which is a routine process. I remember when I called USCIS around my 5th month, the Tier 2 mentioned my fiance's alien registration number being assigned... This was a surprise to me, but apparently they assign AR numbers that will remain with them forever.

  4. Congrats Kaaha

So happy to hear about Miguel and Kaaha!!! Finally things are moving! I know some of you are still in limbo, but it will happen. Even though my sweetheart is here now, I still won't forget what nightmare it was to get to this point. :(

So Milan arrived at JFK on Friday. Had NO problem getting through. Every single person on his flight got called into a room but they let him go through with barely even a question. We are happy and trying to get settled in. I don't think I have ever seen him so relaxed! This is his first trip ever to the US and I expected it to be a little bit of a culture adjustment for him. BUT WOW!! It was more than I thought! He is loving everything but for me...I am exhausted!!! lol I didn't realize how much I would have to teach him. Simple things I take for granted; how to use the microwave/dishwasher/garbage disposal, how and when to take out the trash, the difference in trash and recycle, how to work the central heat and air, what a credit rating is and why it is important for him to have one, how to pump gas, what is all the food on the menu, why we don't pay to park at Target, that a restroom is the toilet not really a place to rest, etc. I haven't even attempted to teach him to drive my automatic vehicle yet! It appears to intimidate him! I think we will just start off slow. Of course, none of this is his fault and neither do I mind one bit, but I just wasn't expecting it and it's taking a little patience so he doesn't get frustrated. He is however understanding more what I went through in Macedonian for four months..so that is good.

Please share your experiences with your spouses when they get here as I am curious if you are/will go through the same thing and how you handled it.

We leave Saturday morning for Vegas and then get married on Wednesday!! Keeping my fellow Marchies in my prayers!!!!

Got a busy week so bye for now!!!

Wow... Good luck with your wedding.

  5. i just need to sigh and remember to be patient, but it's killing me seeing all these people get approved who submitted after us. :( I'm happy for them, but c'mon I want mine too.

My fiance (petitioner) is too busy with work right now to even contemplate calling them so I tried, but they wouldn't come close to even consider talking to me....

so sighhhhhhhhh. I know it's coming, but these last few days and couple weeks are doing me in.... the light is there.... I can see it but it's just too far away to reach...

    sigh.

    Hang in there... It's coming...

  6. I am going crazy here!!! I have not heard yet from USCIS!!!! I filed May 16th got my NoA1 may 22nd and now I check USCIS website and it says they are working on May 28th!! That means I am outside normal processing time. I "thought" I filed a service request about a week ago and was expecting a reply with in 15 days only to be surprised today when I call again that they can't find that service request!!! So they have to do a new one and the 15 days will start all over again!! I honestly lost my nerves when I was speaking to the lady. I got my congressman involved and sent them an inquiry she told me they should inquire on my behalf sometime this week and by law, USCIS is supposed to respond by 10 days!!! But I am not sure if she inquired yet. I am going crazy over here. I am just sooooooooo worried. My fiance and I are cousins. Would that cause a delay? It's normal though in the middle east to get married to your cousin. Also, we'll be getting married in Fl. where they allow cousin marriages. I am sooo worried and just going crazy and really depressed now :( What should I do?? Has anyone been in a similar situation????????? :(

If it's any consolation, I got my NOA2 after 7 months. Oh dear on the cousin fiance thingy.

  7. Well after 2.5 flight delay, after 1.5 hrs waiting in line for immigration, after 1.5 additional hours waiting for an entry interview, then finding her bags, she finally made it out 4 hrs after arriving to the USA.

She was asked simple questions as how she met me and when was the wedding date. Additionally they explained to her what would happen if we didnt get married in less than 90 days. More than 3+ hrs waiting for a 2 min interview.

Other than that, shes finally home!

    :dance::dance:

  8. He should have received a document indicating what the embassy wants to see. Ask him to scan it to you. The directions for the next step should be on there as well. Meaning getting an interview back on the books. The reason you may not be getting too many people responding to "WHY" they need these documents...you may not ever get the answer to. While it may show my profile as a newer VJ member...I go waaaaaaayyyy back. I dont recall seeing too many cases whereas the Jamaican was previously married. I suggest not focusing on the WHY but the HOW. How to get the documents needed and how to get the interview.

So true. Divorces are hard to come by in Jamaica (not saying it doesn't happen, but it's not 50% or higher rate like in the USA), so when the CO sees one, they probably want to know the full story. I think my mother is still married and she's been a USC for about 10 years now. Her husband is in Jamaica somewhere, but they're no longer together.

  9. He cannot apply for AOS on his own. And he has to file for AOS within required time after the entry of K1 visa. When he applies for his AOS within 90 das (should be 90 days but not so sure)after K1 entry, he has to get his wife (the petitioner) to sign the forms along the application. Obviously it's too late to discuss those issues now.

Okay. I thought he could have back then if his situation qualified under VAWA. I do agree that he'll need an attorney at this point in time.

This is a very complicated situation.

  10. Hi all,

I'm an Italian citizen, 35 years old that is looking for a way to get a green card :)

My grandfather was born in New York but he moved to Italy when he was 3years old.

Does it make it possible for me to request the US citizen? or the green card?

    Ciao!

You're an adult and cannot obtain residency from your grandfather...

  11. I've been hearing that VSC has been claiming to be working on May 14th, 2012 files however I came to find out that a September 2012 filer just got approved on Nov 8th, 2012. Just 44 days between the NOA1 and NOA2. Their petition was sent to VSC. I am a August filer and I am still waiting for an approval. They talk about how petitions are looked at based on the order it was sent but that's a lie. This is just unfair. I am very tensed and upset.I am planning to call USCIS and complain to them about this and they better do something about it and I even have proof that they approved a Sept filer before a Aug filer. Please leave some feedbacks about what you think about this. Thank you!

    My Update

08/20/2012: Sent I-130 to Chicago Lockbox

    08/22/2012: Confirmed delivery by FedEx

08/25/2012: NOA1 received (Sent to VSC)

In between these dates (don't remember), it was transferred to NBC.

09/12/2012: Transferred to a USCIS local office (Last touched)

    **********: NOA2 (not yet received)

    BTW :time:

  12. Wow what a whirlwind of events ... POE in Fort Lauderdale was a breeze no interview but the immigration officer forgot to stamp the passport so the customs officer caught it and asked her some questions then called the interviewer and asked why he did not stamp the passport  ... so the whole thing took about an hour and a half of waiting...

We went to a dance party last night and she met a lot of my friends ... now it is wedding planning ...

    woot woot

  13. Yes, the other case may have been expedited. But also, it is helpful to think of it like this:

"Cases are looked at in the order they come in- they are not approved in the order they come in.".

Some cases are easier than others to approve, some cases require the USCIS staff to look at more paperwork, or the US petitioner has a common name and so name checks take longer etc.

Best way to deal with it is to stop looking at other people's dates and focus on your own. It drove me crazy. I would keep hounding USCIS and speak to a Tier 2 and get your Senator involved, whether or not it helps. Focus on your file as everyone's is different.

  14. Hey Marchies, I haven't been here in a while, but it's awesome to see so many good news! Congrats to everyone

Life has been good here so far, we got married last Wednesday and had an awesome little honeymoon :D My stuff has arrived last Sunday, and there is the downside - Sandy has damaged a good part of my belongings and now I have to fight for my insurance claim :crying:

To everybody who still has to move - decide really carefully what you want to bring and maybe send the most important stuff by mail. I cried when I saw my wet mouldy books, clothes etc... The smell was awful too. Funny thing is, when I started packing, I put plastic garbage bags in my boxes, but then the moving company said that this is not necessary, cause the goods will be safe from moisture :bonk:

Cheers and more good luck on everyone's journeys!

Congratulations on your marriage!! Sorry about your items...

I so wish VJ was a bit different in that you could have real "friends" where your "non-friends" cannot see your profile (like Facebook)... That way more people could post photos of themselves with their sweetie... So wish I could see what everyone looks like... No way I'm posting my photos for the world to see on here...
