There are two dates you need to keep in mind. The most important is the Visa expire. Its stamped on the Visa you have 6 months to enter the US. However your medical can not be older than 6 months thats why people say your Visa but its yoru POE you have 6 months from medical.
They may or maynot let it slide if there was a timing thing. Hope that helps clear up.
