  1. Update: Applied for my expedited passport on march 26th at the USPS in Santa Cruz. The passport office received the documents April 1st and it was delivered to my house today! Still waiting on supporting documents but apparently those were mailed out yesterday. That was lightning fast.
  2. I wasn’t sure if I could actually talk to someone at passport Canada given how hard it is to reach a human when I call USCIS. I did try calling and after a 30 minute wait did get though to someone. Looks like they deliver to citizens living in the US via fedex which is actually faster than delivering within Canada (1-2 days with fedex vs ~5 days with Canada post). So I might mail in my passport application today.
  3. Maybe I worded it poorly - I’m just wondering how long it’s taken Canadians in the US to get their Canadian passport? It’s been a decade since I ordered my last one.
  4. I did expedite the US passport. I don’t think I can expedite my Canadian one from the US though.
  5. I just applied for my first US passport and expedited it as we are travelling in June, and while we’re staying in the US, it would be bad if it arrived while we were away. I’m also due to renew my Canadian passport. I see that it takes about 20 days which seems like enough time. However; I’m not sure how long delivery takes to the US. Anyone have a recent experience getting a renewed passport?
  6. Still a little confused on the dates but I went ahead and applied for my passport yesterday. Didn’t realize they need the naturalization certificate for the process so I’ll have to wait until I get it back to update my ssn.
  7. I saw that I need to wait ten days to update my social security information. Do I also need to wait 10 days to register to vote, apply for passport, etc?
  8. As of half an hour ago I'm officially an American citizen! It was an interesting experience - they handed us info packets and then had us get in one of several lines that wrapped around the parking lot. I think they were doing oaths in batches. At some point, an official came by to fetch my appointment letter and green card (+ expired docs). After that we just waited for the line to move. Once it was my turn, I got out of my car and swore the oath with a small batch of people (maybe a couple dozen?). Then we got back in my car and after a few minutes I was handed my certificate of naturalization. Thought there would be a little more fan fare, but I'm glad the process is over!
  9. It’s the San Jose office. It’s a bit funny hearing about a really nice USCIS officer, as I described mine to my husband as possibly the most middle of the road as I could get (not too nice but not scary, we had a pleasant conversation about how expensive it is here and how everyone comes here for work 😂).
  10. Woke up this morning and saw that my oath ceremony was scheduled for March 15th. Seems like USCIS is moving fast this year (not that I mind)!
  11. Completed my interview! I was the last interview of the day for the officer (USCIS San Jose was pretty quiet at that point too). I passed and was recommended for approval.
  12. True, will just have to work out how many pages that is. I am on the lease and sent them copies of it.
  13. Yep, residency, because my husband pays most of the rent related bills (housing, utilities, etc). I can technically file under the 5 year rule and not just 3, but I sent evidence for both. It could be easy for me to walk in with way too much stuff.
  14. I filed online, so by duplicates i mean “should I print and bring everything I sent that I don’t have an original copy of”? Because I filed 5 years of credit card statements, so that would be a lot to print. 😅
  15. Are you guys bringing duplicates of your filed evidence, or just requested items in the interview letter (plus irs tax return transcripts apparently)? Trying to decide how much I should bring with me.
  16. T-minus one week until my interview. Starting to get nervous! I’ve got a good grasp of the civics questions at least.
  17. Congrats on all the speedy interviews! Just 21 days until mine. How are you all preparing for it? I'm having my husband regularly quiz me on the civics questions. I've watched a couple of mock interviews on Youtube as well. Assuming as a native English speaker I likely won't need to study for the language portions.
  18. Will do, thanks! Everyone brings their tax returns as well, then? Can definitely print them out but that's a lot of paper, lol.
  19. So I noticed in the letter that originals should be brought to the interview of copies were supplied. Some documents are "copies" by default (ie. car contract emailed to us digitally), while others were scanned and shredded (car registration cards). I'm thinking I'll pad with some other original documents for those car docs, as I still have the original renewal notices and a bunch of original car maintenance receipts. Do you guys think I submit these online ahead of time, or just bring them with me to the interview?
  20. I downloaded the Lawfully app, which periodically checks their servers for status updates, but sometimes I’ll also log into my USCIS account to check if there are any new updates.
  21. Got my interview scheduled as well! February 27th, wasn’t expecting to get it so quickly.
  22. Filed my N-400 online late last night, January 2nd. Quickly got a receipt notice and notice that they were reusing the biometrics they already had. I found this out through the My USCIS portal, is it usually the case that you don't get email notifications as well? I'm guessing they'll sent things in the mail like they did for my original K-1 Visa application. Plan to visit my family in less than 2 weeks, so hoping further notices will show up online as well.
  23. I plan to, it was a short volunteer stint so probably not a big deal. My evidence is a bit all over the place (for example the IRS will only give you 3 years of tax return transcripts but I'm sending the last 5 tax returns) but I'm hoping it will be good enough. I filed way too much evidence for my K-1 Visa.
  24. Thanks, that's helpful to know. I have another, unrelated question. I'm filling out the N-400 and I technically answer "Yes" to one of the questions under Moral Character - 16 C. I did some volunteering for a nearby Juvenile Hall where I live now, by dropping dogs off to enrich the youth staying in detention (I didn't stay at the center at all, except to watch a graduation ceremony). I've explained it in my documentation with an email chain with the organization. Do you guys think answering yes to that question cause any issues?
