  1. Do you need all these for the application?- I was told by the USCIS and guides that these type of evidence needs to be provide at the interview NOT with the application. The application I-485 just need the Marriage application, license and certificate (my state provide all these) and the required forms ask. Joint bank accounts, health insurance, lease etc should be presented at the interview- I am confused now. I read the guide thoroughly and I did not see none of these.

  2. I was told by the social security office that we cannot apply for a SSN because we got married, that she could have applied when she got here on the K-1 visa, but that now we have to wait for the adjustment of status...

I was wondering if someone could verify that for me

(we got married two days after she got here, that's why we didn't apply before...)

That's not true as other member as pointed out. Sadly, some officers have no idea of their own rules. We had to give the officer a friendly remainder (we printed out info where it says that K-1 holders can apply for SSN card) about my husband been able to get a SSN card.

    Good luck,

  3. Hi guys,

my husband and I got our marriage certificate in the mail yesterday. YAY!, we have been preparing all the documents for the AOS process. We have almost everything ready but we have couple of questions. Some of the forms ask for his I-94 number and A#.Our question is: The CO wrote in the back of his I-94 a A -#$% #$% #$%^, is this number his A#? He came on a K-1 visa, I just want to make sure that he supposed to get a A#.

    Thank you so much,

  4. Hi Guys,

we applied for Eric's SSN Card. He was in the system (Thank goodness) and his SSN-Card is in process. The SSN officer was not sure whether he was already assigned a SSN. I explained to her that he entered with a K-1 visa and he did not enter with an spouse visa. She was a little unsure about K-1. I am glad I took all the documentation provide from this site and gave her a friendly remainder about K-1 and SSN process. The whole thing took 30 minutes and it was not hard at all. We are still waiting on our marriage certificate but we are getting AOS package ready.

    Good luck guys!

  5. Hi guys,

in the form, it states that my taxes from the previous three years are required. My concern is: for 2009, I only worked for half a year (I started my phD program on August 2009). So, I made less than the required poverty line. However, for 2010 and 2011, I am well above the poverty requirement. I did not need a co-sponsor for the K-1 because I am making enough and I have my savings that combine a total income of over 40, 000 a year. Would I need a co-sponsor because the low income in 2009?- I have a steady job and I have my employment letter saying so. I am a little confused about how much the 2009 tax return will affect my application.

    Thank you guys!

  6. Hi guys!

My husband and I are preparing all the required documentation for AOS. We have couple of questions

    1. Is it preferable to apply for a SSN card before submitting AOS? (My fiance now husband arrived to the states a week and half ago and we are planing to apply for the SSN on tuesday). We want to submit our AOS paperwork as soon as possible so my hubby can enroll in English classes and find a job.

    2. On the SS-5 application (SSN Card), question 5, should we check option " legal alien NOT allowed to work" or "other". We had read the instructions here and we still a little fuzzy about this part.

    Thanks in advance guys!

  7. Question for those of you who have experience with Peru.

Like me, were you told that you must get Penal, Police, and Court records?

If so, what if you do not have never been to court/jail/etc? Did the appropriate offices give you some report that says "there is nothing to report...he/she's clean?"

I am asking because several sources here suggest such records are only required if applicable, that is, only if you have a court/penal record. Which, naturally, makes sense.

However, forms from embassy in Peru do not mention "if applicable," rather they just say "all persons over 16 are required to do this."

They use words "if applicable" for military records. But when they don't say "if applicable" for other records it gets confusing. Naturally, I don't want to assume anything.

So, if you've never been arrested, in jail, or gone to court, what is there for these offices to even give you???

My fiance had no records at all but he still got all the paperwork that was required. The records just say : there are no records. GET THEM...THESE ARE ASK AT THE INTEVIEW!!!

My fiance did not get the military one because he did not serve nor belong to any of the military branches

  8. Lol, I liked some Peruvian food but not all of it. The NOA2 you usually get it in like 4 months after you have received your NOA1. I got it in 4 months. You are more than welcome to look at my timeline. :)

ur timeline is totally different. CR1 and K1 have different dates. My NOA2 took almost six months.

  9. Can someone help me on what to include when you want to write an email to the embassy?

    Hi,

    this is what I included:

my name and date of birth

my fiance's name and date of birth

    case number

question: we were concern about my fiance's address written incorrectly. So, we included his address and some directions how to get there.

their response was next day with my fiance's interview date and the option of picking up the package from the embassy between 9-10 am

    hope it helps!

  12. Hello Everyone...

I am looking for some experience from Peru about their embassy and the K1 visa interview. It sasy on the Embassy page that it is recommended the petitioner attend the interview. It is going to be really difficult for me to get off of work this fall (when we, fingers crossed, should be doing this)...is not going a deal breaker in this embassy? How advantageous is it for me to be there?

    Thanks

I think I've answered u before in another post. You don't have to be there for the interview. I wasn't at my fiance's interview. His interview was last week and he was approved without a fuss. Unless you have a really difficult case, then there is no need for you to be there. Feel free to ask any questions you might have about the embassy in Lima and the interview. I'll be happy to help

  13. heyyyyy congrats for you omgggg i so happy for you guys

Thank you so much. Yours is coming too. I wish you the best

I'm so happy do you guys, ibemailed the embassy and they said they are not scheduling me an interview because they are packed for the moment an that I have to wait for my turn. It's all so depressing, I mean it's been 8months already!

OMG. Hang in there. You guys are almost there.

    MERIC

    Congratulations! :)

    Thank you!!!

  14. I had the exact same question...but I didn't want to jinx myself and ask before I get my NOA2 (had enough waiting for that). My embassy is in Lima, Peru...anyone out there knowledgeable of this specific embassy? Will it be a deal breaker if I am not there? It is going to be tough for me to leave work this fall...

To answer your question. No, you, the USC, don't need to be there. My fiance's interview was last wednesday and I was not there. He was approved right away without any trouble, Please read the reviews posted for this particular embassy. I just entered our experience last week.
