    Regan,
I've been following your posts, such as when you refused to read any information provided by USCIS, complained that people on here were being mean when they suggested you read the guides, and asked if one of us would put all of our life savings at risk by sponsoring you, someone we don't know, so you could continue to study. Now you are essentially asking for advice on how to mislead your grandfather into signing something.
When I was your age, I was a totally immature wreck who spent my time sitting around drinking and goofing off, so I'm not one to judge. That being said, you're a married man and you are going to be a father in two months. My honest-to-god advice to you is to man up and approach these problems like a mature adult. Mature adults don't run around trying to downplay what their grandfather is getting into, nor do they say "the entire future of my family is on the line, but screw it, I don't want to have to sit around reading this #######!" Mature adults take charge of the situation and do whatever they have to do to make sure their family has it as good as it can get.
I don't know what the solution to all of your problems it, and I wish you the best in resolving them, but it seems to me that you need to adopt a new attitude.

Is it worth compromising our liberty to keep some people from mooching?

Really? $600 gets you a decent place where I live. I spend about $280/month shopping and for food etc (just myself right now) so will probably spend less than $500 when my fiance gets here since we'll prepare more food at home. I live a pretty comfortable life. I can afford to pay for my hobbies and plenty of extras too. When you include cable, gas, electricity, phone, etc my utilities are definitely more than $100, but my fiance and I might be willing to give up cell phones and cable TV if it came down to choosing between those and being able to live together.
I'm just saying that you shouldn't underestimate other people's flexibility and ability to make things work. I certainly don't need anyone telling me that I can't provide for myself and my fiance. Although I do happen to be above the 125% guideline, if I weren't I would still expect to be treated like an adult who can make his own decisions.

Not everyone lives where you live or pays what you pay. Many of us live in small towns where there apartments in nice neighborhoods that cost $500-600. A bus pass here costs $30/month. After my fiance gets here I will have to option to add her to my full health coverage for $150/year through my union. It's obvious from reading your post that your situation is quite different from mine. Is it really so much of a stretch to imagine that there might be other people like me who can make a comfortable living on a lot less than you can??

The sad thing is, our immigration policies make it difficult for lots of outstanding individuals with good a good work ethic, PhDs, etc to live and work in the US. I work together with many of these people.

So basically you're saying that not all people are responsible, therefore we need to assume everyone is irresponsible and have the government step in and decide who gets married. Nice.

It's perfectly possible that someone might be below the 125% level and have health insurance from their work. I have health insurance from my work for myself and spouse but don't make much money.

Looks like you have a month or two left to get the noa2. If you'll be with your fiancee during the interview, she might've a shot to pass it since the co will see tht you two can communicate, otherwise he will have a doubt bcoz the co wouldnt know that you can speak her language as well. I'll say call the us embassy in japan and inquire if they can provide a translator since the co usually does the interview in english. Tell your fiancee to start learning more since she'll be going to US anyway and she'll be needing it. Goodluck!
