You only need to renew OCI if you are age 50 or above and you renew your passport.

Thank you so much Ashish. Can you point me to OCI / Government of India website that clarifies this?

I could not find any written confirmation.

  2. Hello,

My wife (age 36) and son (age 6) are US citizens and have OCI card for India.

They got their passports renewed recently.

Would they need to renew their OCI card?

I heard rules changed recently, OCI website instructions are not clear so wanted to get help.

    Thank you.

  3. Hi All,

I am a Indian citizen with a US Green Card.

My wife and my child both have PIO cards issued before before January 8, 2015.

I see on the Cox and Kings Global Services / Indian Embassy Website that the last date for OCI card in lieu of the PIO card is June 30th, 2016.

    https://www.in.ckgs.us/oci/oci-categories/oci-in-lieu-of-pio-us-minor.shtml

Initially I read that there is no need to change from PIO card to OCI card as any PIO card issued before January 8th, 2015 will be considered as OCI card.

Has this rule now changed? Why are they issuing a deadline for conversion?

What will happen if I do not change from PIO to OCI?

    Thanks in advance.

  4. Hi All,

I am applying to the Chicago location for re-issue of my Indian passport after 10 years.

I have a green card and is currently living in the US.

    I had the following questions:

    1. The fees for re-issue are stated as follows:

    Passport Service Fee: USD 75.00
    ICWF: USD 3.00
    BLS Service Fee: USD 13.20

So should I get a single cashier's check / money order for the total amount: $91.20?

    2. I will be providing proof of residence for US address (Chicago).

Do I also need to provide proof of residence for my India address (it is the same address mentioned in my existing passport)?

Note: Currently my father and brother reside at that address, so the proof of residence would be with their name.

  5. Hi All,

I am an Indian citizen currently preparing my documents to re-issue my Indian passport (expired couple of weeks ago).

I came to the US in August 2007 on F1 visa. My F1 visa expired in May 2012 (shortly after I received Green Card in March 2012).

The BLS website mentions that if I am applying for passport re-issue, and if my visa has expired, I should visit the Chicago consulate in person for an interview.

Would this also be applicable in my case, even though I have a Green Card now?

I would appreciate if you guys could share your experience, or let me know if I am missing out on something.

    Thanks much!

  6. Hello.
I am applying for PIO card for my 8 month old baby at Chicago CKGS. He was born in US (2013) and has a US passport since birth. Both me and my wife were born in India. My wife was an Indian citizen from her birth in 1984 till 2011 (US citizen since 2011 by naturalization). I am still Indian citizen with US green card. I need help with questions below

    1. Who signs the CKGS order form (I am assuming both parents need to sign it)

    2. What dates should I add in the "Parental authorization form for minors" for "Do hereby authorize my child to leave the United Sates of America, from ___ to ___" ? I am just applying for the PIO card now, and I am not sure of the travel dates yet.

    3. I am paying $15 for the Fedex Courier Services.Do I still need to send some kind of return envelope?

    4. In the "Additional Particulars Form" on the last page for declarations, they have the following question:

I am applying for a PIO card (select whichever is not applicable)
    (a) As a spouse of an Indian origin person
    (b) Not as a spouse of an Indian origin person

For me option (b) is applicable, but they mention "select whichever is not applicable". Does that mean I should select option (a)? They have asked the question in a very confusing manner.

    5. Should I staple sets of different forms separately? Do they have any specific instructions on how to put together the package?
How should I include the money order and 4 photos (in an envelope?)

    Thank you in advance.

  8. Thanks for the response Deep2009.

I was trying to complete the "Parental Authorization for Minors" that is required for PIO for minors.

They have a question stating "do hereby authorize my child to leave United States of America, from ___ to ___"

We do not know our travel dates yet and our child would be travelling with us. What should my response be?

  11. Hi all,

I submitted my I-751 to remove conditions on 2/10/14 and has the biometrics on 3/12/14.

We are planning to go to a Bahamas cruise in May-June from Miami, FL. US permanent residents can travel to Bahamas without a Visa (just need green card and passport).

    I had the following questions:

    1. Would my Green card and NOA1 letter be accepted as a valid Green Card? (that letter extends my green card upto March 2015).
    2. Would I have a problem entering US at Miami?

All your experiences / helpful information is welcome. Thank you in advance.

  12. Received letter yesterday with Biometrics appointment for 03/12/14!!

Does this mean they found my evidence ok and I should not be worried about RFE any more? dancin5hr.gif

  14. We didn't put it on our packet, either.

A quick search through the forums shows plenty of people who forgot and had no issues.

My understanding of the process is, the P.O. Box in the address is specifically for I-751 applications anyways, so it shouldn't matter that much.

    Thank you!

Could anyone give me an estimated waiting/processing time for

    1. NOA
    2. Biometrics appointment
    3. Interview (if needed)
    4. New Permanent REsidency Card?

I sent my package yesterday at the California Center.

  15. Hi all, I just mailed out my package through USPS certified priority mail yesterday.

This means I should be at peace today right? dancin5hr.gif

Apparently not! I forgot to write "Attention: I-751 petition to remove conditions of status" in the address I wrote on my package. oops8rh.gif

I just wrote down the USCIS california center address!! Do you guys think this would be a problem? Is there anything I could do now?

  17. Hi All, I am ready to send out my package with I 751 with evidence. I have the following questions:

    1. I have included copy of birth certificate of our son born to the marriage as evidence. I was wondering if I need to get the copy certified / notarized? If yes, where can I get it done.
    2. I have used paper clips to group documents together (like all utility bills together, all bank statements together). I am not using acco pront fasteners, hope that is ok?
    3. Should I put all the documents in a folder or a plastic sleeve before putting them in the shipping envelope?
    4. I am planning to use the USPS priority mail (which comes with signature confirmation and tracking). Is that ok? Do I need to insure tha package?

Also, please find below cover letter and advise for any changes, tips etc

  18. When you apply for ROC, one of the questions asks if you have moved since becoming a LPR, your answer of course wil be yes. Then you wil be asked to provide a list of the addresses where you have lived previously. That said, they should be able to figure out why the mismatch of addresses in your documents. However, I think it is important that you do update your address with your bank... or if you thought you did it already, make sure they in fact did it. A lot of times , depending on the bank, you can just change your address online.

I had a similar situation, I moved right before applying for ROC. So my evidence had few different addresses (my old one, where we were temporarily staying and the one where we were moving shortly after)... I have not gotten approved yet but haven't gotten an RFE either (fingers crossed).

    Thanks paojack

  19. Thank you for the answers, highly appreciated...

So I should just file the AR-11 now from my first address to my current one? Wait ten days and then file my I-751?

Also, should my wife who sponsored me file the I865? Or isn't it neccessary?

Danishguy, I am exactly in the same situation! I received my conditional permanent residency card in March 2012 and am in the process of submitting I-751. I have moved twice since then and did not submit either AR-11 or I-865. I just submitted the AR-11 online.

Does my wife (sponsoring USC) need to to submit I-865? What did you do it in your situation?

  20. Just submit the most recent one and make sure that your spouse does the same.

When you file for ROC explain why you didn't put through the change at first.

You are not the first person that didn't submit an AR-11. I know so many that didn't and didn't have any issues!

Thanks VickyP. I was reading a similar forum and seems like AR 11 is the more important one, most of them did not submit I-865.

  21. When we submitted the AR-11, for the previous address we put the old address that we had during the AOS (not our most recent old address).

We didn't include any acknowledgement for the AR-11 with our I-751. It isn't necessary. We just kept it for our records.

I'm not sure about I-865. We didn't submit anything for that. I don't believe it's necessary.

Thanks sunflwr121984. I just submitted the online AR 11, it was real easy. I read a few other forums and seems like most of them did not submit the I-865. SO I am also planning to skip it, just go ahead with my I-751
