  1. Thanks, C&C! Yeah, that's what I figured: no need to complicate an already labyrinthine bureaucratic process.

History has shown that some workers frequent VJ.

Many posters vent about the terrible system.

One wonders if cases ever get slowed down because their case worker sees them complaining on VJ?

Not trying to single you out, I was just reading your post when this thought occurred to me...

  2. Americans are not fond of people with foreign accents and will most often refuse to lend a helping hand

Just a moment. Sweeping statements are almost never true. :)

I ask people all the time where they are from, and engage them to learn more. I'm sure I'm not the only one.

I've been a social worker and a cop. So I've seen both ends of the spectrum being a helper and controller. LOTS of Americans love foreigners. I'm one.

That's love in the generic sense, I also happen to really love one in particular, or I wouldn't visit this site. :)

I'm one of the ones who feel if you don't love my country, don't come here. Citizen by birth, Nationalist by choice. The country and its citizens (including me) are FAR from perfect, keep that perspective in mind, please.

If you feel forced to come here, try to help make the country better. Get involved in the political process.

Volunteer. There are LOTS of options and TONS of need. :)

Complain with suggestions to improve = constructive criticism.

Complain without suggestions to improve = *itching. *insert consonant here.

  3. I'm with everyone else here, she should have read... blah blah blah.

    But!

Lets all remember love can make one impatient. I myself suck at being patient, and it cost me an RFE. I could have saved myself a month of waiting, but I sent a divorce journal entry, not a final decree. Very few of us send perfect packets. Not that a lot of packets aren't accepted. (perfect to me is just enough info to be approved, and not so much you cause the reviewer to spend extra time going over documents that aren't required, and slow them down from moving on to the next one)

So I suspect they have learned. Remember, we want to be helpful. This shouldn't be a place to joyfully point out how others f'd up on their packets.

  4. The Minister replied "Why? you're going to hell anyway"... He then said you don't even pray to the right God!

Wow, sounds like a southern baptist. ;) They LOVE to judge, and are way more focused on Hell in my experiences than other denominations. [No flames I was raised methodist / baptist and have attended a southern baptist church for 2 years. (in the past)] I am surprised he didn't realize the thing about religions springing from the God of Abraham. headbonk.gif But good for you for recognizing that Jews, Christians and Muslims all pray to the same God. :) That shocks a LOT of people. I often think God is really pissed at a lot of his followers (of all faiths :) )

We are no where close to a perfect society, but I think we are the best country overall. :) I'm a true believer on that. I just try to not be blind to our faults.

  5. This is just an FYI for the VJ community. Many of the Washington DC Embassies have open houses the first and second Saturdays in May. One is mainly focused on the EU embassies, the other is just general DC Embassies.

May 5th is the first one this year, with the second one the 12th.

It's worth looking into if you're interested. Some have food, or drink, some free some not. Some have music and dance. Some have chocolate , Belgian ( hint hint )

  6. I'm old school for an american.

If the woman is a child of the man, then the child needs to honor their father and carry the tank.

    But

If the woman is your wife, yes you should schlep the gas tank. That's what men do for their wives.

I just turned 50, my Mahal is in her 20s.

If I am fit enough for a mid 20s wife, I should be able to carry the propane tank, or smart enough to have a small cart on wheels. :)

However, in a practical sense, if the man is infirm, and the woman is healthy, then the woman needs to carry the tank.

Am I judging the man? You bet I am, but by the same yardstick I measure myself. devil.gif

  7. this is why i think it's unfair we can't delete our own posts, as far as i know.

THIS is why many of the younger users, maybe I mean newer users ( and I mean computer user, not forum users), need to get the concepts of what forever REALLY means. There is no privacy if you post anything on ANY public forum or website. :) Anything you say can, and will, be held against you at some point in your life. :)

Ps this is also true with people. Everyone should remember you can NEVER unsay anything. So choose your words carefully. You may have to eat them someday. :D

  8. one more question if your still there :) At the bottom of G-325A sheet it says "Applicant print name and Alien registration number in box outlined by heavy border" She did not print with ink she typed her name in ther. Is that the same thing?

In this case, I think we can agree, yes it's the same. If it had asked for the signature, not so much. :) I'm fairly sure you're safe on this one. (we typed all our info too, and we just got our NOA2)

  9. Mine was the wrong document. I sent a Divorce Journal. (where it says who is responsible for what bill, after the divorce). It was stamped and entered into the county records, but it wasn't the Divorce Decree. Turns out my lawyer never provided me one. ( I now have 3 original copies. :) ) I thought I was sending the right document, the only document of my divorce that I was ever given by my attorney. But it wasn't the right document.

I'll echo everyone else here, read things very carefully, then have 2 or 3 people look over the form, what it asks for, and what you're providing. Make sure at least one or two of them are NATIVE english speakers, we might catch something a non native speaker might miss...

  10. In the signature area it states:

I acknowledge that I have read "Sponsor and Alien Liability" on Page 2 of the instructions for this form, and am aware of myresponsibilities as a sponsor under the Social Security Act, as amended, and the Food Stamp Act, as amended.______________

    ( Form I-134 (Rev. 05/25/11) Y Page 2 )

it seems to imply something should be done where the underscore is, but nothing comes out and says that. Do we initial? the place where we sign is clearly indicated, but this underscore just sits there mocking me. blush.gif

    Thanks in advance,

    joelb

  11. Please pass this note to your husband.

What you don't want, is your wife, or anyone, driving faster than they feel they can make decisions about what happens next. Are slow drivers frustrating? Yes. You're an adult, get over it. You will be much happier with a safe wife who doesn't cost you money in fines, or accidents, divorce fees, because YOU like to drive faster. Ps, I like to drive fast, I hated being with my wife driving, my annoyance made her more self-conscious, which led to her messing up more. We are no longer married. That wasn't the reason, but it didn't help.So let her learn with someone else. And when you're together, you drive, then it's not an issue. Everyone wins.

  12. If a person went to Malaysia on a tourist visa valid for a month, and over stayed by say a year with a relative, how is this handled by the Malaysian Police when asked for a certificate? As far as they know, the person was here for a month and left. No record check needed. But oh no we say, I was there longer than I was supposed to be. But I left to go back home, and now require the police check.

Really in a quandary over this one.

    Any advice would be appreciated.
