  1. Good advice! I visited my fiancee 3 times before immigrating to the US, never had any problems with Customs. As long as you are honest and show documentation that you have ties back in your home and you do not overstay you should be okay but be aware it really depends on the customs officer on the day. In all my travels the customs guys never asked for the documentation but it's good to have it for backup. Good luck and have a great time.

  2. In most US States, you cannot be issued with a US drivers license until you have your greencard but you can normally obtain an International Drivers License that allows you to drive legally for 12 months with any problem. Most insurance companies accept the International License and you normally pay a higher premium. That was my case anyway. Just apply for the International License in your home country.

  3. They will send you a RFE. I received a RFE about 2 weeks after I sent our application in, I sent the wrong tax information  felt like such a twit !!!!!!!!!!! I would just wait till they send you the RFE, just try to have all the information ready so when you receive it, you can send it back immediately. Good Luck. They will tell you in the RFE exactly what documentation they need.

Okay, this was really dumb on my part. I filed for I765 and I131 concurrently with I485. In trying to be meticulous to be sure I had all the supporting documentation for the I485 I failed to include the supporting documents with the I765 and I131. Well, to be precise I included passport style photos with the I485, but not the I765 or the I131. And I didn't make copies of Paul's passport to go with either one of those. I had put all of that with the I485 and put the I765 and the I131 right behind it. :bonk:

Do I now wait for an RFE? When I get the RFE will they ask for all the documentation that is missing or just the first thing they come across that's missing? Then when I send that will they send me another for anything else that is missing? Jeez I feel like moron!

  4. I worked up until 5 days before I was due to leave and really regretted that decision. I wish I had finished 2 weeks before as the move is huge and I did not get to spend the time I wanted with friends and family due to last minute problems. Enjoy the time.

  5. You need to advise USCIS of any change of address. When I moved I simply changed it online, nice and easy or you can use the AR-11 form.

    Hi everyone,

My husband and I bought a house in August and moved in in late September. I will be sending in my application for ROC in late December, but I was wondering if I need to let USCIS know that I moved before I apply or if I can just change the address on the ROC forms? Just trying to make sure the process goes smoothly. I know there's a form, A-something for change of adress, right?

What are you thoughts, experience, etc?

  6. Unfortunately my husband's bank will only accept US Government Issued ID eg, US Passport, Drivers License, Greencard or State ID Card. Just one of those things.

I think that you can get a bank account with your passport, no need of SSC... It probably depends on the bank though... Correct me if I'm wrong... But it doesn't hurt to call your husband's bank and ask :)

  7. A K-1 visa holder is allowed to apply for a SSC upon arriving in the US. Typically you wait 14 days to allow your information to get into the SAVE database. You have up to about 14 days before your I-94 expires to apply. You can apply before getting married or after. You need to take your passport, I-94, and you birth certificate (as the SSA is now requiring two seperate documents to prove age and ID, YMMV) and fill out a SS-5 form at your local office. If for some reason you are not in the SAVE database, thank them and take your application and leave and come back in a couple of weeks. I would also record the date, time, location, and people you speak to so if you need to e-mail the main SSA office on their website you can explain what happened. If you are marreid take the marriage certificate (the original and a certified copy and let them keep only the copy) to show name change.

The fun begins as most SSA people do not know about a K-1 visa and that you can apply for a SSN as "legal alien allowed to work". Some will tell you you need the EAD or GC. Others will say that if you are married the K-1 visa is no longer valid or the name must match the name in the SAVE database. Just so you know the K-1 is no longer valid the moment you went thru the POE and used it to arrive in the US. The SSN is one of the hardest or easiest things to get depending on your local SSA office. You cannot legally work until you receive the EAD or GC.

    I wish you well,

    Dave

I had no problem with Social Security they were very helpful.

  8. I applied for my SSN 2 weeks after I arrived in the States, then once we were married I got the name changed, takes about another 2 weeks. Just remember you cannot apply for a SS Number 14 days prior to your I-94 expiring. I am in the state of Oklahoma, it does change with some states

  9. I hate to be negative but you are leaving yourself open to disappointment. We applied for our K1 Visa in June 2011 did not receive my visa until February 2012. We made the mistake of planning a January 2012 wedding but had to postpone the date which caused us grief. Give yourself more time, we were advised it takes approximately 5 months before you receive the NOA2 and then another 4-8 weeks until the visa is finalised but then you could be lucky and your application could be processed sooner but that is the exception. We used a lawyer had no RFE and it still took us 8 months to gain K1 Approval, although we did have a 6 week delay due our lawyer (by the ay we are not using a lawyer for the AOS process). Anyways good luck

  10. Without having read previous posts from the OP, people who come here do need to understand, that unless they are asking a specific question, on a specific form, where the question is straighforward, and therefore the answer will be straighforward, that anything else is pretty much up for debate and opinions. We can offer up our personal experiences and hopefully some knowledge. The poster is going to get our opinions and possibly our judgements.

Any person who uses any open site, posts any question ( that isnt direct and specific ) is going to get some responses that they possibly dont like.

If you arnt willing to read up immigration rules and laws and learn on your own, where you make the choice to ask questions, you are putting yourself out there for any and all responses. And the OP of any thread is open to this, because they have opened the door for it.

There is no point to rant and rave over what you view as unfair and judgemental responses . . . its going to happen. So your choices are, read the guidelines, hire a lawyer, ask only specific questions to specific forms. If you choose none of those, and still post, then you have to be open to peoples opinions.

    Totally agree, good comment.

  11. Ok thanks heaps for clearing all that up guys. The only thing I'm left worrying about now is my petitioner USC fiancé neglected to keep her boarding passes from the previous 2 times she came out here. If we log in to expedia.com it has 'completed' trip information available to print. Would this suffice for proof of the trip as well as passport stamping coinciding with the said dates? Surely that would be ok... ?

If you are in a frequent flyer program you can print out a statement of your points, it normally shows the trips made. Copy of passport dates will help. If you had any emails that discuss travel arrangements, I would send those in.

    Good luck.

  12. Hi Aussie Dave

When I submitted my application we submitted about 12 photos, emails, chat records, valentine cards, Christmas Cards, phone bills, Boarding passes and travel itinerary. We provided as much evidence as we could and had no dramas. Better too much evidence than not enough and I found when I attended the interview in Sydney it was such an easy interview as all the information was already in my file. Although we did send in more photos and more evidence with our Package 3, pretty well the same just updated evidence.

  13. Hello Everyone

We are now approaching our 4 month mark and are getting things ready for when NOA2 arrives. We are having a bit of trouble getting the proper info for the police check. We have been told to go in and fill out the forms at the NSW police department as well as submit it on line. We have also been told that we need to contact the Federal Police which there seems to be no way of contacting them through the site where we have been also shown to go and fill out the on line form. We just need to know exactly where to go and what forms need to be filled out so that we have it done properly and hopefully before we get NOA2 because it seems we have heard that it can take up to six weeks to get.

Also if there is anyone who is going through Embassy stage at the moment could give us a rough estimate of the time between NOA2, NVC and Embassy getting it processed and the interview scheduled we would like to know the approximate timing of that as well. We have heard that the Embassy has been moving a little slower than normal and were wondering if they were all caught up or still lagging a bit.

    Thanks

    One Half of Team Masters

    Hi One Half

I come from Queensland and when I had to obtain the police reports I went to my local Police Station, had my fingerprints completed same day and filled in an application for the Federal Police Check, the local police station sent off the report and the report came back about 10 days later. We applied for our K1 in June last year and the visa was issued in February this year. Our NOA1 took over 5 months but if you have all the information on hand before the NOA2 arrives it really is not long. We received our NOA2 in November and I had an interview in February but there was a 4 week delay due to our lawyer not providing the correct information so I did not send the Package 3 until end of January. Best advice I can give is be as ready as you can, I only received one week's notice for my interview and I had to fly from Qld to Sydney so it was crazy. The NOA1 and NOA2 takes forever to get or it feels that way, but after that everything happens so fast its crazy! So be ready! Good luck, hope my experience helps.

  14. It's not about vengeance or about seeking validation for it, is about justice, that's all it is!. Why would you allow people to wreck your home, play with your emotions, scam you, treat you and hurt you?. I truly believe we have to respond to any violation or abuse and not let people rob your peace and wrap your heart. Vengeance does not call for punishment. We have a system to protect us,many people are saying "oh Immigration won't do anything against him blah blah blah", well they are wrong! I go to the Immigration Court almost every day of the week for the past 10 years and I saw thousands of people being deported!. In 2011 the United states deported 396,906 people, 54.6% of them were criminal offenders, but 46% of the deportees were people out of status, illegal, fake marriage, people caught at the border etc, they are not sleeping, they work hard!

I am an attorney and I own a non profit organization who helps victim of domestic violence as well and our message is SPEAK OUT!!! To say let go, move on, forgive him/ forget him is not constructive. We build a strong society with moral values when we demand Justice! She said she was psychological and physical abused by her husband then she must not let him get away with freedom. We need to teach our kids to demand justice and respect because without justice a society would fall apart.

An excellent response and Impossible I hope you take this person's advice.
