  1. First a little background info: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/339333-this-is-stupidbut-i-need-ur-help/page__p__5014904#entry5014904

I mean, I admire the honesty of posting from the same account but I guess that's about as much honesty as there is to this. In this case it might be better for the petitioner to be the one on VJ knowing where she stands in this.

Thanks Moomin. I just knew from this post that something wasn't right, and you've helped me prove it.

  2. Gosia and Tito, thank you for your encouraging words. We are moving to San Francisco, and I am generally a very adaptable person (I even lived in Kabul, Afgh. for a while) but I just feel apprehensive about being all on my own. I am sure that I will be fine, and that within a few months I'll be settled. Thank you.

Sunshine39 - Thanks again. At least your husband will have you by his side so I am sure he will be fine. I guess the most important thing is support, whether it's from a spouse, a community, friends etc.

  3. My husband is American and we have 2 young children together. We currently live in South Africa and plan on moving to the US within the next few weeks. Unfortunately, my husband's job requires a lot of travel - mostly to Asia and the Middle East, and he is likely to be gone every 2 - 3 weeks, for 4 weeks at a time. We have lived like this for 8 years but it hasn't been hard as I was close enough to home and everything I find familiar, for it not to matter too much. But I worry about what it will be like for me to have settle myself and our small kids, largely on my own. I am not sure that my husband completely 'gets' what this entails/means for me, but with each passing day, I am becoming more and more worried and less excited about our move. Anyone here had to do anything similar? How did you cope? Has life in the US been worth the move, emotionally?

  4. Great news that it gets approved so fast.

May I ask one more time; what documents apart from the following did you enclose:

    1-130 form

    G-325 forms respectively

    South African residency requirements

    Proof of petitioners US citizenship

    Marriage Certificate

Biographical photocopy page of beneficiary International passport

    Passport photographs as specified

    Fees

Yes. And to be honest, I found the USCIS staff very helpful both via e mail and on the phone. They can and will answer any questions you have.

  5. Hi all,

My husband and I are going the DCF route in South Africa. We have an appointment with the US Embassy on Thursday, September the 8th. We are going to file our I-130 application. Could anyone please give me some guidance on the paperwork that we should take with us. This is our first visit to the Embassy and I am quite nervous as I want everything to run smoothly.

Is is necessary to have affidavits from friends? We have a lease together and many photos from our relationship over the past two years.

    Thanks,

    Sarah

    Hi Sarah

Have you heard any feedback? We live in Cape Town and have also gone the DCF route for a CR1. We submitted everything in July, got an approval notice in July, and then nothing. The approval notice says to await further instructions, but it is hard to tell how long this wait will be. Very frustrating.
