I'm not sure if I have posted in the correct sub-forum, my apologies in advance.

I need to ask any of you with experience in this. My husband and I have filed the I-751 petition, and I have already went to the biometrics appointment back on October 10th. I had my picture taken and finger printed. The Biometric Rep. who had processed me, advised that I would be getting my new Green card in the mail. I do not recall how soon I would be getting the card, but I don't recall having to wait this long for the first one. I've now waited over a month to receive my new green card, and my current green card had expired back in October 23rd.

I don't think I can even leave the country to visit my family in Canada for the holidays since my green card is no longer valid. Has any one had this happen to them? Should I keep waiting or should I just contact their customer service? I've tried looking up my receipt number on the case status thing, and it says it that doesn't exist. I'm worried that my petition was canceled and that I would have start this all over again.

Please, someone, help me out during this very confusing time.

Yeah well I have every intention of getting my license and registration in CT as soon as I can. Since I can;t do anything about it, I have no choice but to re-new my stickers in Ontario. I'm not gonna get screwed for something I have no control over. It's probably this stupid mistake, they didn't change my last name. Wow, this system is so disorganized. This really frustrates me a lot, you do everything by the rules and you still get screwed.

I filed for adjustment back in April. got a notice a month later that i fot transfered to California Service center.....it's the end of October... haven't heard a thing.

Well that's a pain! Now you'll need to turn around and register your car in the US and pay again... when you get everything sorted out of course.

When I got my state license it took me 10 weeks to clear immigrations. It was a nightmare. I ended up having to make an info pass appointment with USCIS to fix my name in their database, because the first time I didn't clear. Hopefully you have an easier time!

What do you mean ? Whose Database? and which name? Your last name? and what is an info pass appointment.

10 weeks. Omg jesus christ! I might aswell not even register my car in CT if it takes that long.

My husband has a horrible driving record. His insurance is already way too expensive.

It worked. I re-newed my stickers online. They should be in the mail within 5 business days. That was a lot easier than anything the DMV in Connecticut can do. I think the only thing I like about the US is my Husband, everything else I could careless for.

Jesus, If I had known this I would have done it two months earlier. I just got my car imported a month ago.

I don't think I need a driving test done, my license is considered "out of state" so it's just to be replaced. But it's ridiculous that it's gonna be taking that long since my license is out of state. I don't get it.

I think I can register my car online in Ontario Canada. I found the link:

But I'm not sure if this will work out, waiting for my husband to get home before I decide what to do. He's suggesting he register my car on his name. We'll see.

I'm so incredibly upset right now. I've been driving back and forth to the DMV in Norwalk, Connecticut (40 minutes with lots of traffic on i-95) to get my license and vehicle registered and It's been an nightmare for me. I have been there three times just this week.

I have paid for my connecticut state license on Tuesday soon after I find out that they cannot issue it to me because of immigrations. My status in the US is... well I don't have one because I'm still in Adjustment status. I have an EAD and I'm actually working now, so #######?! I went back today to see what the status is and all they could tell me is that "We;ll call you once we know your information has cleared immigration" I asked them "How long is this going to take?", they replied "It could take a week, it could take a month, we don't know."

My problem is that my Ontario registration is about to expire on the 31st of October and I didn't bother registering my vehicle because I figured that I would just get in registered in Connecticut without any problems. So now my question is, what should I do? I can't register my car in CT if my registration in ON has expired. I have american insurance on my car now too. I'm with Progressive. They had no problem getting me covered with a Canadian license and registration so long I change it to CT state soon.

Can I register my vehicle online? with my american insurance?

I called the ministry of transportation and they referred me to the Registration department. I called and left them a message but I fear they won't get back to me in time. So I'm desperately seeking some help here. Any one know what to do? I don't wanna have to drive up to Canada this weekend to do this, but if all fails I suppose I'll have to.

if the hiring person said so - you can sue for discrimination. it is illegal to discriminate against anyone with valid ead.

in fact it is illegal to ask if ur a citizen/permanent resident during the hiring process. the only question allowed is - "will u need a work visa". obviously ur answer is one word - no. at this point they cant ask you anything. dont ask dont tell on what ur authorization is. just submit ead on the first day of work with ur i9 and at that point if anyone has issues, you can tell them to talk to your lawyer.

I didn't know that. I actually was requested to email a scan of my EADl, my AOS receipt, and my visa on my passport. I thought "weird, but they must be really interested in hiring me" so I went ahead and did it. I was hesitant on email it. But it was actually for a law firm so i figure it;s ok. but now that I know this how can they ask me of this? I mean if I don't give them what they want I risk the chance of getting hired. They ended up not hiring me anyway. They had mentioned they had a problem one time with this guy from australia, he got hired, then two months later he told them they had to help him stay in the country. I had explained to them that I was on a Fiance visa and I don't need sponsorship I already have it and my AOS is in progress. I can work legally and have a SSN. They requested all that info from me even after I showed them my EAD at the interview and they still requested scans of my info. They even called me for a second interview after i sent them my info via email. then canceled the interview and I had to call them today and find out the position had been filled. This all happened over a weekend. it's so disappointing.

once again I did not get hired for a job I was well qualified for because I don't have my Green card yet. The employer didn't feel comfortable with hiring because I have a temporary work permit. ughhh so frustrating. Who else is going through this?

I'm just wondering if any body else in here is stuck in limbo? Meaning you're adjustment of status which you've filed for back in the first week of April and has now been transfered to California Service Center. I have my EAD and AP, but nothings changed on my adjustment of status. Is it really going to take a year for me to get my green card? Is there something I should be doing to speed things up? Should I be calling and asking? Perhaps they lost my file and now it's not being reviewed. I'm really getting frustrated, just want to know if I'm not alone here.

So I filed back in June for my EI to start up again. And its now Aug. 21st. Nothings happened. I gave them everything they needed and more and still nothing. I keep calling them and leaving them messages and no one cares to call back.

They really don't want to help me out huh? Any one here have this problem too?

This isn't the first time they did this to me. Before I left Canada my hours at work were reduced by A LOT and I had to go on EI which took me two and a half months to get. I had to go into my savings that I was saving up for my move to the US. They're a complete bullsh*t department, I honestly don't care any more. If my husband wasn't supporting me right now I would, honestly, be in major debt and homeless! Just completely fed up and frustrated. I don't want to deal with these people any more.

Cards? I'm sorry I don't understand what you mean by "cards"? I never received a card from them. I just want to know when they'll start the direct deposit again. I just wish I could get a job right way, this EI is ridiculous, when I was living in Canada it took them two months to get my EI started and I had already gone deep into my savings. It's seriously such a joke. I hate having to deal with these idiots. They say they're on it and 5 weeks later you still get nothing.

How long does it take for these people to get the EI started? My EI was only suspended, they take forever!

hmm than maybe it would be better for me to take my car back to canada. that's if I can get that compliance letter hmmm.

Do you have to have the vehicle at the border to import it? I was thinking maybe I should drive up to Canada with my husbands car and pick up a compliance letter for my car and at the border import my car. But do I need to have my car with me? Excuse my french, but This is such a pain in the A$$.

How do I obtain this compliance letter?

I have immigrated I just got my EAD/AP (Employment Auth. Doc/ Advance Parole). Well I think I'm going to have to take my husbands car and should I ask them (Border Patrol) if I could get the proper documents from them to import my vehicle ?

I don't have time to do all this before I have to leave. Is taking my husbands car fine?

I have a really important question to ask. Here's my situation.

I just received my EAD/AP ( Thank God!!), it's in great timing because I need to go back home to visit family for a very important event. I am planning to drive up but problem is that I have not imported my vehicle yet. I don't even plan to until I have a job, I barely use my car for anything but going to the grocery store. Will I have a problem at the border going into Canada and coming back into the US because of my vehicle?

I should also mention I've been living in the US for 6 and 1/2 months. I know I should have imported my car a long time ago but I don't think I even want to keep this car, it does not have miles on it, it has kilometers. I need figure out what I'm gonna do but not until I have a good job. ( I may not even need a car if I get a job in NYC).

I was thinking maybe I should just borrow my husbands car instead, he has NY license plates but we live in CT, although the car is registered at the family home. Is that gonna be an issue as well?

Whats the best option for me? I need to go back home next Thursday, I can't miss this special event. Please help me out.

P.S.

Both cars are insured. My car still has the canadian insurance, and his has american insurance.

Geez I should have gotten married first before applying for my greencard. I've had to wait so long to be with my loved one, spending so much money on visits to see him, We should have gotten married sooner, I probably would have gotten my greencard by now.

That is generally true -- although, your case can still be sent back to your local USCIS office for an interview. Chances are you do not need a second interview. However, your I485 approval is likely to take 6 - 10 months at the California Service Center (CSC).

10 months? Ugghh, Oh well at least I got my EAD.

All these people with interviews, makes me wonder if I will ever get a notice for one? My case was transferred to California Service Center. I've been told that if gets transferred there I don't get an interview, is this true?

One question, I was on EI for three months prior to POE. I notified intertate that I moved and they suspended my EI until I got my EAD. This was in January. I finally got my EAD, (6 months later). Will I still be able to receive the remainder of my EI?
