KrisandJennie got a reaction from Austramerican in Is it just me or has going through immigration really put wedding planning into perspective?
I definitely see both sides of this. I myself am having a big wedding. Partly b/c my parents are paying for it (they have wedding funds for each of their 3 girls) and I've always wanted a church wedding and a reception hall. Plus, my fiance and I both have lots of family and friends and we want to share our big day with them. it's all a matter of personal choice. My fiance and I CHOOSE to have a big wedding b/c that's what we (and our families) want. We will be having a small ceremony in the courthouse when he gets here so we can start the AOS/EAD process, but we want the big day as well.
I will say that after going through all of this visa stuff (and still going through it), I totally get the small wedding thing!! I would not mind having a nice wedding with 50 or less people in my parents' back yard. BUT, this is something my fiance and I want, a big wedding.
So anyways, I don't think anyone was attacking at all, I just think most of the people who responded prefer smaller weddings. I don't think anyone was suggesting that you love your fiance any less b/c you want a big wedding. Chin up and party like a rockstar on your big day! I know I will be!!!!!

This website is amazing and has some of the best people. That being said, there are some people on here who seem to just want to make people feel stupid or bring them down. I have seen posts asking about booking flights and scheduling weddings and yes, you shouldn't do any of that until the visa is in hand but NO ONE IS PERFECT. People get excited and may get bad advice and jump the gun a bit. Does that give anyone the right to be mean or disrespectful to someone else? We are ALL on here b/c we want to marry our loved one so maybe people could try having a little compassion for the other people on here. If someone asks a question that you think is stupid, JUST DON'T REPLY!!!!! My mother always used to say "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all". Maybe some of the people on here need to follow that mantra. Just b/c you're miserable doesn't mean you have to try to convert everyone else into a life of misery as well.
Good luck to everyone and God bless!!

I'm not at all saying don't give them advice but some people are very harsh about it, basically callingthat person stupid... I have actually seen that. A simple "not a good idea" and an explanation would suffice. No need to be mean to people.

I have seen it time and time again. It happens all the time. Maybe you're just not seeing it. It's never actually happened to me (until this post) but I've seen it too many times and had to say something. I'm not saying don't give advice. If someone is about to do something fraudulent or stupid then absolutely point them in the right direction. But comments like "life isn't rainbows and cotton candy" isn't helpful and it's just plain rude. That's all I'm saying. Overall, this site is amazing and I have had a lot of help on here in the beginning of the process, but more and more I'm finding responses from certain people to be inappropriate and unnecessary.
