thanks all, other question is, What if my Canadian Visa application is refused? what is the worst thing can happen? will i be deported to my country (Indonesia)
-
You will be deemed to have abandoned your LPR status by moving to Canada. On your Canadian tax return, you would file as a resident. Doing so is one of the reason to deem you abandoned your US LPR status.
You are eligible to file for US citizenship. Having US citizenship will allow you to move to Canada and come back whenever you like.
thank you. im thinking about it.

I'm no expert but I do believe if you are going to be out of the US for more than a year then you need to apply for a re-entry permit. Even with that, there might still be an issue getting back in the country. I'm sure you can search on here as well as the rest of the Internet to get the details.
Before thinking about any of that, your post did make me wonder a few things.
1. Do you plan on living in the US permanently at some point in the future?
2. Are you a conditional perm resident or do you already have your 10-year green card?
3. Have you thought of becoming a US citizen yourself?
hello, thanks for your reply.
1. I really can't say yes or No to that. well I'm not sure. anywhere is fine for me really...but if life takes me back here, I would say say yes. 2.I have a 10 year old GC (sorry for being unclear) 3. a while ago yes, and now somebody strongly suggested me to do it, i think to myself, why not?

Hi everyone, please forgive me if I posted this in the wrong place.
as the title says, me and my husband are planning to move to Canada. He is a US citizen and I'm a US permanent resident for more than 3 years now. Reasons we want to move is we like the lifestyle there, we feel that our hearts wanna be there, especially my husband ( he is a Canadian permanent Resident)
so I've been reading a little bit about how my status in the US is gonna be later. they say"that if you leave the country, you're considered to abandon your lawful residency".
to be honest I have this fear inside my head...what if things don't work out in Canada?and wanna go back to the US (and i already lose my PR)???
any advise? we're actually open to move somewhere in the US still, but it's the "life" that we want that we're looking for...so far it's Toronto.
Please help, any advise/suggestion are welcome.
Thank you.

Hi guys, I'm Indonesian and I'm going to renew my passport soon, and I was wondering which one is Visa Control Number since it is asked in the Application Form. Is it the red one on the right side of the visa? thanks
Sorry if I misplaced this question

Biometrics done on 08/18
with one embarrassing yet amusing memory left in my head, one guy had to ask me to move over TWICE cuz I was in the wrong line, I was nervous that's why hehe.
hope everything else runs smoothly
-
I was wondering, after Biometrics, how long should we wait until the interview? anybody knows? (maybe I should not post it here, but ....)
-
Hi everyone, we received our Biometrics appt letter today. My Biometrics will be on August 18

Thanks for the information everyone, i don't mean to abandon my GC. We will think again, we just wanna live in a place that we really like, with opportunities. Well there are many opportunities here in the US too, we just don't 100% like the area where we live now. Canada is our #1 option, if it's too hard, we might just move to other cities/states in the US

That is a bad news, if I will loose my greencard?
that makes sense though, i can understand that. My husband is half Canadian (his father is Canadian), born in the US, but raised in Canada. He's a permanent resident in Canada.
Maybe I should start from the beginning again eh?, just like how I entered the US, apply for a visa first

I really don't know where to post this question, but hopefully I'll get some information here or there
right now i'm still in the waiting game for my 10 year-green card. me and my husband are planning to move to Canada (vancouver) the question is what will happen to my immigration-status? do i have to do some procedures before I move? maybe tell USCIS? should we make a report of our wedding (in Indonesia) to the consulate or embassy in Canada? any info will be appreciated
thanks

we sent ours on July 23rd
still waiting for the case #
-
thanks a lot! I'll be there
-
what or WHEN? I sent it on July 23
I-751 form and along with the evidence of our relationship.
-
ah never mind, i think i understand now. I shoud have not read the NOA letter too fast hehe.
so to my understanding I will get my case # on my ASC appointment notice
-
Hi, i'm not sure that I understand what you said here, so I still have to wait for my case #? so what is that the WAC # on my I-797? is it only the receipt #? please explain if you could
I totally forgot about the different of WAC # and Case #
in my CR1 visa process....it's been quite long
-
the receipt date: 07/25/2014
I received it on my hand yesterday 08/01/2014
-
thanks so much
I just received I-797, Notice of Action. It says that my conditional resident status is extended for a period of one year. During the one-year extension I am authorized employment and travel.another question came up here :/ I can't find my case status when I entered the receipt number in the Case Status Tool. it says "
"Your case can not be found at this time in My Case Status. Please check your receipt number and try again. If you need further assistance, please call the National Customer Service Center at 1.800.375.5283"
Should I wait a lil bit more? maybe it is not ready yet? ( try to think positive here
I'm sure to put all the numbers there including the WAC and without dash too (example: WAC1234567899) (am I doing it correctly then?)
If I'm planning to travel abroad (Canada, Japan and Indonesia) is showing this I-797 Form to the border/airport officer enough? should I do something else before I go? ask for something to USCIS maybe? like a special letter which says that I'm allowed to travel? it is when I go back to the US that I'm worried about. The form does say that I'm authorized to travel during this waiting game (btw my case is in California Service Center, the processing time is 6 months, some people say) any experience from you guys regarding travel abroad during one year extension?
thanks again
