sheeshkabelle got a reaction from hikergirl in Nexus should I get one while in K1 visa process?
Everyone in the car does NOT have to have a NEXUS card to be in the car, just to use the designated NEXUS lane. If someone doesn't have a NEXUS card, you just go through a regular lane. the NEXUS holder doesn't have a whole lot of questions asked of them, because they already have pre-clearance.
A NEXUS card will not get you through any faster to activate your K-1. Ya it's nifty to have, but they'll still need your passport and all your documents.
I love my NEXUS card and I'm glad I got it! No fuss going across in a car, and I get right through that horrible horrible line up for customs at the Calgary airport.

Open RBC Canada and RBC USA accounts and link the 2 online. Have your EI cheques direct deposited into your RBC canada account, transfer the money to your RBC USA account online and you are good to go. I think I pay a $4 monthly fee for each of my accounts, but there is not charge for transfers. If you have Weigels stores where you live, they have no fee ATM's so you can withdrawl money without it costing you anything (or do cash back when you are shopping).
The only downside is if you don't live near a RBC USA branch it there could be some issues if you ever need a branch. I have been here for 2 years and have yet needed to go to a branch.

We use RBC, it makes life easier for hubby to send money to me. He has the interact card to the account, I have the Visa Check Card. You do have to keep a minimum balance, at the time we opened ours it was $1,000.00 in the savings. The only hassle is the closest branch to me is in North Carolina. I have a local credit union account that I use to deposit checks/money if I have to.
One reason we use RBC is they will use his Canadian credit history, where he will have to rebuild credit in the US when he gets here. (we are seriously considering refinancing our house with the lower interest rates at RBC.)
