  1. WOW! It is good to see everyone still checking in. CJ, Sam, Jene, Ty. In a way, I feel like I kind of miss you guys. After all, we used to spend so much time on here.

Anyway, I don't know who can give me the advise I need, BUT, Ton and I are planning on moving to Bangkok. After doing some research, it appears that it is easier for Thai's to move here, than it is for us to move there.

    Sam how are you?

    Dan

Wow! I am jealous. I wisk we could move back to Thaialnd now. If you are moving to Bangkok to work it can be a hassle. Retiring there doesn't look too bad. I believe that Ton needs to live in the US a minimum number of days per year to keep her green card. A good friend of mine who is a British citizen lives in Bangkok now. he lived in the US for many years and had his green card. His kids were born here and are now out of college. A few years back they took his green card away because he didn't meet residency requirements. He had a 3 year contract with a company in Bangkok. That ran out so now he started his own business. He is married to a Thai citizen but he is still have problems getting a visa for an extended stay.

    Hi Gene,

I still have a lot to consider. I was also concerned about the residency rules. This is what I found out:

You may be found to have abandoned your permanent resident status if you:

Move to another country intending to live there permanently.

Remain outside of the US for more than one year without obtaining a reentry permit or returning resident visa. However in determining whether your status has been abandoned any length of absence from the US may be considered, even if it is less than one year.

Remain outside of the US for more than two years after issuance of a reentry permit without obtaining a returning resident visa. However in determining whether your status has been abandoned any length of absence from the US may be considered, even if it is less than one year.

Fail to file income tax returns while living outside of the US for any period.

Declare yourself a “nonimmigrant” on your tax returns.

I would really like to know what they mean about "However in determining whether your status has been abandoned any length of absence from the US may be considered, even if it is less than one year. "

  3. Ton received her green card today

Now get to relax for the next 2 years (well 1 yr and 7 months).

I found the AOS to be the easiest part of the whole process. Took less than 2 months from the time I mailed the application until receiving the green card. But considering how long it took from approval of the I-129F until NVC received it, we deserved a fast processing time.

Good Luck to everyone else going through the process.

GRATZ!!!! YEY.... i just remember the day when Ton wasnt sure if she wants to be here... Glad everything work out great for u!!!! She likes it here now eh?

Yes and No. First thing she wants to do now is go home for a month..

  6. Don't even waste your time with the status web site. During our entire AOS process the has only been one touch on it. It still says the notice how they have received our application. Well guess what?!?!? Since then, she has already done her biometrics twice and interviewed for her green card, and got approved. The web site has not changed!!!!! It does say it has been updated on Jan.17. NOT!!!!!

  7. Hello everyone, I havent been around in a while. Everything is great here and Tik and I are great. She is the reason for my life.

    Man Thai2luv!!!

Still stuck on AOS that sucks. We got approval in about 1 month. I paid for AP but never got it the green card came quick. I dont know I guess that money went out with the trash

I wish I was back in Thailand!! We went to the local Temple for PEE MAI (NEW YEAR). Made me want to go back. Oh well maybe next year.

We also went to the Thai Temple in North Hollywood this past weekend. One of the few places we can find authentic Thai food.

Your AOS was processed pretty quickly. Consider yourself lucky your case was transferred and you skipped the interview.

Our interview is tomorrow and I hope it's quick and painless.

Mike make sure you tell me how it goes. Ton and I go exactly 1 week after you. I was by that area last night, make sure you get there early because parking is a bit hard over there.

  8. Bill,

Approximately 4,000 baht. Perhaps a bit less these days - the baht has been pretty strong against the dollar for quite some time now.

    Yodrak

Can the visa fee be paid at any post office? What does he need to have with her when she goes to the post office to pay? .....

    Bill

The exchange rate has been killing me. I really wish it would get a little higher.

  9. Hi all,

Just wondering for those that gotten their NOA2 way way back in the past, say a year or 2 ago.....has anyone gotten emailsTODAY from USCIS saying the I-129F was approved?

Weird thing happended today, I received multiple emails from "USCIS-CSSO" and the subject of email was Case Status Information for Receipt Number: WAC0123456789 (not the actual WAC #) and the content of the email was the approval of my I-129F back in Aug 2004!!!

Must a some sort of server glitch occuring at USCIS?? :hehe:

WOW! HAHA! You should make a topic for this forum and say FINALLY, NOA2 AFTER 2 YEARS!!! or something lol.

    Bill

I just got 5 emails from USCIS stating that my I-129f has been approved. Not bad it is only from Sep. 2005. Would be nice if it was for the AOS.

  10. well, since we're on the subject of money. I'm planning to go visit my fiance again this January if she doesn't have her interview done by then, but when I come back there won't be much money left in the bank. Does it matter how much I have in saving? I do have a stable job and makes pretty good money. All my saving was spent eversince I got back from cambodia earlier this year, so I had to start from scratch. Well there wasn't much to begin with

You don't need to have much in the bank. They just want to see that you have the income to support her when she arrives.
