  1. Yes its a high fraud country but what does that have to do with the excessive timeline? I have been told that filing in US is 2 to 3 times the wait. If I was filing in Nigeria we would have VISA probably within 8 weeks. So was just wondering how long people have been getting their VISA's. Curious since I will have to fly back and forth during this waiting period.

  2. WOW Bethy & Amr' you are in my city and I am about to enter this race called immigration status. It's been 6 weeks 1 day today we have been married. I am in Nigeria now with my husband but will be leaving to come back and start the filing in two weeks. Wish I could file from here but just a visitor.

So let the games begin. I pray its not a long separation and a quick interview which I will fly in for. Have you been told of timelines? I have been given as long as 10 to 12 months (OMG). I pray not.

Have the list of items to stock up on sounds good. Save me some. Good luck and God bless you.

  3. Hello,

Have read alot and thank you for information. But I would like to hear from people who filed in the United States from start of I-130 to Interview ti approved. I have heard so many time, lines. But one thing I hear is US takes extra long and I should prepare for 10 to 12 months.

Why does it take so long? I am currently in Nigeria with my husband But I have to leave and won;t be able to come back for 6 months. I am nt a permanent resident and do not qualify to file paperwork at embassy here which I hear goes very fast.

So anybody have timelines and even know why it takes so long for a US filing?

    Thanks Dwheels

  4. No I am American dear. and I have had a passport since my birth on my 4th passport now and always assigned a different number but if I have to wait I will wait because really I need the permanent status to be able to work. So no wahala.

    Thanks

  5. OH no I posted in the wrong place? I am American this is about my Nigerian VISA. I was sick could not get to immigration they were notified of that and that I was waiting for them to fix my account and credit card so I could withdrawal funds.

On thursday we finally were able to pay fine and application fee yes we are 3 weeks past the expiration but it was the policy to go the next step.

The permanent status: suspended for 6 months once I leave the country.

The extended VISA they extended 24 days. Which is from the May 17th day which puts us at June 15th which they expect me to return. I can't even get a flight out until teh 24th.

Just was trying to get some guidance as to do i have any recourse or leave and could I reapply for VISA with new passport soon as I get in a few weeks and return before the 6 months? Just wondering.

  6. I need some advice for anyone who knows. Please don't laugh. I am in Nigeria and my Visa expired May 17th. We had notified the immigration before the expiration we were have trouble with my bank account, credit card (They cancelled because of foreign withdrawal). It's been just one mishap after another. Needless to say time was ticking and we were rendered a fine of $644 which we paid and paid the $512 permanent status application. This was done June 9th.

Well they made their decision rather fast on friday the 10th and pardoned my expired VISA, permanent status: suspended 6 months from when I return to the states. Extended VISA: 24 days of which has been exhausted. I must leave by June 15th.

So at least not deported get to leave with an exit VISA in hand after I book my flight. My question is this. I am going back next week and since I married May 3td need to go about the name change on all my things and also get a new passport that will expire August 1st.

When I get my new passport with new name can't I just apply for new VISA and re-enter with that. hey have no idea what my new married name is. Not trying to be bad but 6 months away from my husband of only 41 days is well unbearable to think.

But than was thinking if I did that and re-enter. I sit and wait for 6 months which would be December but wouldn't they know I came in country earlier. All legally. I have done nothing wrong to come back.

Just wondering what I can do. I so don;t want to leave. It's painful and heartbreaking. And advice?

  7. I truly thank you for all your information and support. Man I am so glad my friend on Facebook suggested this site this has been a blessing. I think I got it all together and you are right might as well send to US and file. By the time things get all approve and stuff I should have my 6 months in and we can proceed over here. I figure its going to take 10 months to a year away so might as well start now.

Well hopefully I got all my questions answered and next time I will be posting my success stories.

    Thank you again. Penguin_ie

  8. Om MY. 10-12 if I file through US? I guess I better keep my butt here and do all the filings than. Oh good no I129. So this NOA1 form what is it? I see that mentioned alot here and there. And you have on your timeline packet one and packet 2.

I would gather I don't need to worry about DS-2053 until interview time. Personally I want o be here for he entire process even the interview. I will start on forms now.

I also am working on this end my own permanent residency for Nigeria. Wow this is not fun. Congrats to your process. Thank you

  9. WOW love the timeline really gives me a visual. Thank you. It looks like from start to VISA at least about 6 weeks. Thats cool. And I figured with the job thing I would have to show support. I should have no issue getting work once I get back. I hope while I am here to at least work and get monies put away so when I get back get a place setup for everything.

Now have gone through the guides but gosh seems I keep finding another form I need. Okay its just me the US Citizen and him the Nigerian citizen No kids. Now I have heard there's a form request to have your spouse come while the VISA/Green Card process is underway.

So far I have found that I will need to complete these forms.

    1. I-130

    2. G-325A for me and Him

    3. I-129F

    4. DS-230

    5. I-864

    6. DS-2053 (his medical)

Want to get the I-130 on their way now. I want to file in US even though I am in Nigeria.

Thank you again for the help. It is much apprecated. What a great site.

  10. Okay I am new so bare with me. I am married to my Nigerian husband. I am currently living in Nigeria. I need to start the VISA process to bring my husband home with me but have a few issues.

What do we do since I am not employed in the states? No real bank savings. But I can get employed so as I get bank thats no issue. Just need to know does all that have to be done?

I will be starting work here in Nigeria soon so saving up money will not be an issue but what is the expected amount needed to be in ones account to satisfy immigration do they say?

Also what are all the forms I need to fill out and send?

Again let me state I live in Nigeria now with my husband. So I would be filing from here.

    Thank you
