You should get her a health insurance when she gets to the US because she will probably need to have 2 check ups every month. Cancer is treated and not cured.

For the medical they are looking more for contagious diseases so I doubt they will give her a bad review.

We will certainly get her insurance since it still needs to be monitored.

    Thank you for your response.

  2. Hi everyone!

I just need some insight regarding my mom's situation.  Right after our I-130 petition was approved, my mom was diagnosed with cancer.  We delayed the NVC process so she could immediately be treated (radiation, chemo. etc).  After her CT scan, no more tumor were found and based on her blood test (CEA) there are also no more cancer cells (didnt know they can tell on blood test).  Then we started processing with NVC and I got her interview date for Sept.  My question is, at her medical, do they ask if she has cancer?  Would this a ground for her to fail her medical and visa denial?

    Thanks in advance!

  3. Since the typo error was only in my BC, Affidavit from Dad and Mom notarize stating basics, age, name, that they are married, that they were both there at time of birth, my mom's middle name on my BC hay typo and that the typo name and the real name are one and the same person and that they are both my biological parents. We had it notarized in Ph. That was enough to provide proof that they are truly my parents. i was prepared to write an affidavit and notarize in US for my statement but both my parents affidavit were enough I guess.

Now my mom's name itself also had a typo on her own birth certificate (another typo it's her last name, one character off again). She had it fix at local and the usual typo correction process. Also then put the wrong spelling name in her NBI since it is her own document. But the 3rd typo in her name on my BC was not even raised as an issue during interview they didn't look for the original copy at all.(i only submitted photocopy affidavit)

Also, i think our local civil didn't really think we had to correct her name in my BC. I didnt push coz there are other ways to provide evidence of parent (some doesnt even have BC and few affidavits and and school, hospital records were good enough) I know that because my aunt didn't have one and she petitioned my grandma. Her BC was destroyed. No record)

Hope yours works like our case! Good luck ?

Great! I will have my mom do the affidavit then.

Thank you so much for your time! :)

I didnt think about that. Thanks so much!

I had typo for my mom's bc. I didnt get it corrected. I added supporting documents such as baptismal and affidavits. My mom's middle name was incorrectly spelled (1 letter typo). No issues with I130 or Visa issuance

    Hello!

You made my day! ;) I was already thinking of correcting my birth certificate.

May I ask what kind of affidavits did you send? And did you submit it together with the I130 form or on the NVC level?

    Thanks!

  5. Hi everyone,

I am in the process of gathering the documents I need to petition my mother from the Philippines and I've seen lots of spelling errors on my mother's name.

Mother's birth certificate : (full name removed) - This is her real name and will be on her passport too

My birth certificate : (full name removed)

My marriage certificate : (full name removed)

    I don't know where to start :(

I hope you can share your experience if you have one.

    Thanks in advance!

  7. Hello. Dont worry it's normal. Same thing happened to me. We were told to wait for 4 weeks. I just received my new SS card yesterday, I think it took 3 weeks. You'll be fine. :)

    Hi all~

We submitted our AOS application in March as well. The case was transfer to California in the end of April. And we got the EAD and AP a bit more than 2 week ago. We went to SS office to apply for a SSN last week. They said that they could not find our information in their system and they needed to verify it with USCIS, which would take about 4 weeks. They gave us a letter stating the same thing with a reference number. Have anyone of you had this? Is there any way to speed up the process as we are waiting for the SSN for insurance and employment. They said the reason they don't have our information in the SS system could be the name change after marriage or USCIS has not updated the status....

I saw some of you got your SSN just a few days after the application. Is our case rare?

    Thanks!!

  8. No, our accounting units are enough to qualify to take the CPA exams. Just have it evaluated. The list of companies that can evaluate your transcript and diploma is in the website of California Board of Accountancy. Look for the "new applicants" section. The exams are divided into 4 sections. I studied for almost 2 years and have to pass the other sections within 18 months when I passed the first section or else my score gets forfeited. It took me that long because I have a newborn at that time. If you don't have a job right now you should study and take the exams first so you will not have so much stressed studying, working and having a relationship with your family here in the US at the same time. You might want to start looking into it now because I think the they will increase the required units by 2014. By then you might have to take additional accounting classes.

    Great advice. :)

I thought I need to take additional classes. Hmm I'll think about focusing on the US board exam first before working. Is it okay if I ask you a few more questions when I get to US? Im still here in PI, finishing some audit work. I'll also check the California Board of Accountancy.

Thank you thank you. Im really glad you answered my inquiries here. :)

  9. Correct me if i'm wrong...but i think CPAs from Philippines cannot practice their profession in US. They can work in the accounting or finance field but not as CPAs. They should be a US licensed accountant to practice.

Hi maria! Yes we cannot work as CPAs in the US unless we take the US board exam.
