I have my interview 2 weeks ago in Chicago field office the oficial give me the letter say that I pass the test and everything he ask me for 2 passport photos I didnt know that I need 2 passports photos I went to a cvs to take the pictures and I went back to USCIS to give the photos to the oficial I wasn't allowed to enter to the office so another oficial take my photos and he give to him since that they my online status say we schedule your interview no update how long can take to have an update???? Like I said 2 weeks today and still nothing I also sign the paper with all my information he said this is going to be in your certificate

Sorry to hear about your photo issue.

Just to compare to my experience. I already had my interview last month and already have my oath ceremony letter on hand, my online status still says "scheduled an interview". I do not know if the online status will change to reflect that the oath ceremony has been scheduled. If the office where you had your interview is near you, perhaps you can schedule an InfoPass with them to follow up.

What if some one lived in a district for 4 years and 10 months then he or she moved to a different house but at the same district .Is it okay to file ? even though he did not live in the new house three months before filing? the distance between old house and new one 1 mile. Same district, city, state ????

    Instructions says:

    Residence in Your USCIS District

You must have lived in the USCIS district in which you apply for citizenship for at least three months before you file your application.

    Two things.

    1. Official Answer with link - According to § Sec. 316.1 Definitions. (Section revised effective 11/28/2011, 76 FR 53764)

"Service district means the geographical area over which an office of USCIS ordinarily has jurisdiction for purposes of naturalization."

    2. In general, an applicant for naturalization must file his or her application for naturalization with the State or Service District that has jurisdiction over his or her place of residence. The applicant must have resided in that location for at least three months prior to filing.

As long you (or your friend) live in the SAME city, then you are okay. Some states have several districts within the same state. For example:

    • California - 4 districts
    • Texas - 3 districts
    • New York - 2 districts

Some districts are quite small. District 3, for instance, contains just New York City. Others are medium sized like District 5, which serves Pennsylvania, Delaware, and West Virginia. Still others cover larger territories. District 15, with an office in Kansas City, encompasses Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, part of Illinois, and part of Wisconsin. And more...

Altogether, there are 26 USCIS districts, each of which is served by a district office. You can take a look at the map of all the USCIS regions and district here.

My wife applied for citizenship earlier this year (end of January).  Biometrics were taken mid-late February.  So far, the latest update online is as follows:

Case Is In Line For An Interview

On February 28, 2017, we started the interview scheduling process for your Form N-400, Application for Naturalization , Receipt Number NBC*#########. We will send you an interview notice. Please follow any instructions in the notice. If you move, go to www.uscis.gov/addresschange to give us your new mailing address.

We have not received anything in the mail yet.  Should we have?  If so, what should we do at this point?  We definitely do not want to miss the interview.

For what it's worth, we are in the Chicago area.

    Thanks!

The process is still within 90 days rules from your biometric appointment so that is normal. Remember it is 90 days for each stage of the N400 application.

You will not receive anything in the mail at this point until you see the next message that says "scheduled your interview", not scheduling.

Ok, under the 5 year rule application, it needs 5 years of my tax transcript/return. I have 2013 to 2016 transcripts & sent a copy with my n-400. I have read some of the posts here that we can fill in a form to request for an old transcript but has to pay something. I still have a copy of my 2012 income tax return. Do you think I can just use the return for 2012 while the rest of the years are transcripts for the interview ?

You can make a request to IRS to get your last 5 years tax transcripts for free.  IRS will provide you two different type of transcript:

    1. Tax Return transcript
    2. Tax Account transcript

I do not know which ones USCIS will accept so I would get both to be on the safe side. While I did not provide copies of the 2012-2016 IRS transcripts with my N400, I brought both Tax Return and Tax Account transcripts with me to my N400 interview just in case but never been asked to show them to the IO.

Be aware that the Tax Account transcript is only available for the last 10 years ONLINE, only the last three years are available to mail.

my friend today received his application back , and they said it is old version ...it is with expiration date 03/31/2019 ???...that why I am asking ....

Old version? Hmm, can you give us the exact reasons (word-for-word) given to your friend by the USCIS?

According to the USCIS website and it said nothing about any N400 dated 03/31/2019.

    Quote

On April 13, 2016, USCIS revised Form N-400, Application for Naturalization. The revised version is available at uscis.gov/n-400. You may continue to use the 9/13/13 edition of the form until August 9, 2016. We will reject and return previous versions of Form N-400 submitted on or after August 10, 2016.

Does anyone have any expirence with a k1 visa after a ban was placed on someone? My fiance is in the UK and I am in the USA. He over stayed his esta and was given a 10yr ban. We want to get married and he is going to live here. Any suggestions? please help

You can try filing a Form I-601 Application for Waiver of Grounds of Inadmissibility and pay the $930 filing fee. Keep in mind that this is not guarantee. I had a 3 year ban and filed I-601 which was accepted and I was able to get my CR1 visa after a year of waiting.

So Strange! I have never in my life been a second out of status or illegal in this country. Paid more than 40K in University fees as an International student during my student days. I have paid more than 30K  in Federal taxes every year since 2010. Since November 2016, i am stuck  in BG check. This is such a shame. I have filed in NOV 16, and still waiting for my interview!

I think it is all about location. Dallas field office is the one will schedule your interview.  Looking at July 2016 filer topic, @SBB@CareBear@enoughwait (all with Dallas field office)  received their interview letters in the last couple of days so you're looking at a 8-month wait between the fingerprint appointment and the interview appointment.

    Hang in there!

This is not my question. I have MN Drivers License.
There is a statement on the bottom of the license "I certify that I meet the citizenship requirement and have maintained a legal residence in the state for a period of 60 days ..."
What do they mean by "citizenship requirements"???
There is no legal info what is the definition???
Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is not explaining, but US citizenship is not a requirement to purchase a license.

Whoops! My bad!  When I first saw the word "citizenship", I automatically thought of N400 (I just had an interview couple of days ago). Sorry about that!

This is Minnesota Fishing License. How do you understand the statement on the bottow of it, below the signature. I was trying to find the definition of "citizenship requirements" but I haven't found anything. All I found was information about licences for residents of Minnesota and non-residents, what's the difference, what are the requirements and how to purchase them.

    flic.jpg

I don't think you will be able to use your Minnesota Fishing license. For the N400, you need to have a state-issued card with your full name, photo, birth date and home address on it. If you're not licensed to drive a motor vehicle in Minnesota, you can get a Minnesota state ID card as identification.

    Hi Bearmirus,

Thank you so much for sharing your experience with us. I have a question regarding documentation to be brought to the interview. I have to bring my birth certificate and marriage certificate on behalf of my wife, for whom the interview is scheduled. Would copies of these documents suffice, or do I need to bring the original documents? They won't keep these documents, will they?

    Thank you for your help!

    1

    Happy to help.

I bought all of the original documents along with copies of them to my interview. My IO did not ask me to provide the original document during the interview. There are two reasons I can think of on why my IO didn't ask. First - I was under the five years rule therefore I didn't have to provide any ongoing marriage evidence. Secondly -  I suspected since I provided a table of content paper to the IO at the beginning of the interview, showing what I have in my 21-Pocket Poly Expanding File I bought with me. As to whether they will keep the documents or not, I cannot say. I'm sure other can chime in about that.

What did u write at the question requesting for online account number.....do I leave it blank or write N/A

If you are referring to the N400 Part 2 - Information About You question #6, I left that blank because I didn't have an USCIS Online Account Number.

In case you didn't know, you can fill out Form G-1145 - E-Notification of Application/Petition Acceptance (which I did) and this allow me to receive an email and SMS text message of all the updates happening with my N400 application.

I am a December filer and I included 2 passport pictures with my application. I just felt weird not sending any passport pictures, idk, I'm a little paranoid about such things, haha.

At least you do not have to worry about it now. I'm curious to see if you will use a felt pen to sign your name on the passport photo you sent with your application.

I had my interview last Thursday (March 16th). I was not asked for any photographs but I did include them in my original application.

All your questions were exactly the same as mine, including the reading, writing and civics. I thought they were chosen at random, looks like they have sets of questions.

    Congratulations on passing :)

    1

The paper that the IO had seems to be a copy of a copy since the text quality has degraded substantially a bit when I was doing the English test. So you could be right about the sets of questions. This may change though since I have seen some advertisement inside the field office main lobby about doing the interview on an iPad. There was one in the IO's office but it was set aside and use the old-fashioned method.

    Thanks! :)

Question for OP - did you include 2 color photographs with your original application? I have my interview coming up in two weeks but at a different field office and there is no mention of the need for passport photographs on the list of things I need to bring with me. Thank you.

No, I did not include any passport photos in my original application nor was instructed to do so by any of the NOAs.

  15. 1 minute ago, antoncardan said:

Weird, I didn't include any photos either. It clearly says that photos are only needed for overseas fillers.

I thought the same thing which is why I was thrown off by the whole thing at first.  So to be on the safe side, perhaps all December filers should get the photos and report back on whether they handed in their photos or not. In my opinion, that's $15.00 well spent compare to having to send in via mail which may or may not delay the decision of making recommendation for approval.

Hi.   I have decided to apply for citizenship.   My current concern is with the timing of key dates (interview etc) since I will be gone on vacation for 3 weeks starting mid May.   If I mail out my N-400 this week, how likely would I have a conflict since I wont be available last half of May into June?   What is the current timing for key N-400 milestones where I need to make myself available?  The May trip is already booked but I may have another 2 weeks planned for September.   All advice is appreciated.

    Thanks

    Sly

Your best bet is to look at other filers timeline from your area on this forum. Just be aware that everybody and every ASC location is different.

Happy 1st day of March everyone

I need advice is someone have the same situation like me. I applied for n400 using my divorce family name my green card still on my married name

Please advise if i won't have any issue on my interview, since my green card is still on my ex family name but i use my divorce name

But for my biometrics  you can put others names use in there so i believe they check both my divorce name and my ex name

    Thank you

I don't think you will have an issue at the interview. The officer may ask to see the original divorce decree showing your married name and your maiden (divorce) name.

I'm sorry if this has been asked before but does anyone have any idea how long the ceremony lasts in Los Angeles (convention center)? they scheduled mine at 8 am, I'm wondering if I should take the day off or tell my boss I can be back at work at 11 am? should I expect it more than 2 hours?

In case you were waiting for an answer (or other people may ask the same question), @eggplant shared his/her experience with the Oath Ceremony on February 15, 2017 into great details.
