Funny thing is they emailed me the packet on 3/19, but the attached letter was dated 3/21. Go figure!

This question is for those who have gone through the Haiti embassy with the K-1 process. I have noticed that it seems that they are often requesting a dual interview. My FI is planning to pick up his medical results tomorrow and submit the packet, but I will not be able to go down until May. Would we be better off waiting to submit the packet for a couple weeks so I can also go to the interview or is it okay to go ahead and submit it and hope that they don't make us do the dual interview?

Congratulations!

It does go to NVC first, then on to the embassy. It doesn't usually seem to take long for NVC to forward it on to the embassy. After NVC has received your case, if you call them, they can give you the case number. For us, we received NOA2 on 2/4/11 and our packet left NVC on 2/17/11 (not sure when it actually got there) and I still haven't gotten any hard copies from the NVC. If I wouldn't have called NVC I still wouldn't know our case number!

For applying for a driver's license call the BMV for the state you are living in. In Indiana you don't need a permanent resident card to apply, but you do need a SSN so it depends on your state.

Our packet was sent to the Haiti Embassy on 2/17 from NVC. According to DHL records it was received on 2/21. How long does it usually take from the time the embassy receives the packet until they send out packet 3.5? I have tried calling stateside to find out what is happening and also directly to the embassy, but no one can give me any information on it so I'm wondering what the time frame has been for others going through the Haiti embassy.

I would try calling the airlines to see if they can change the name on your ticket. Some airlines are willing to do this for you if you explain that you made a mistake and put the wrong name on the ticket.

It depends on your state DMV as to whether you need a SSN to apply for a license. In Indiana you need one. Check your state's requirements.
