Brill, thank you everybody!

Do it yourself, triple check everything and keep VJ on SPEED DIAL!!!

Personally I chose to use the post offices's international payment method here http://www2.postoffice.co.uk/finance/making-payments/post-office-international-payments to move my money into my fiancee's account. Very good and easy website to use. And the more you transfer the better the exchange rate.
Brill thank you everyone, I am going to give the Post office a try as I trust them and have used them for other things (Post!)
Thank you again!

You have to meet 1st I am afriad

Hi, this was my experience of the Medical, very pain free
-
I'm afriad I cannot help with regards to the being allowed to enter the US (I entered without a job everytime and never had an issue....)
That is spledid proof in my opinion, I always feel more is better, our packet was monstrous!!
All the best!
-
I travelled back and forth explaining that I was visiting my US Girlfriend without 'returning home Docs', although they did ask how I would support myself without a job and I just said I temp for a few months, save up and spend it on a trip to US, when I run out of money I go home and she comes with me, thus the cycle continues!
Good luck, it will be fine!
-
I would always recommend calling and chasing and calling and chasing, both for peace of mind and so you are kept very much in the loop of what is going on . .
Guess it depends how 'in the loop' you want to be!
(we call daily for status updates!)
-
US pport size as you know know
And we put 15-20 photos in a ziplock with stickers on the back of each one with people in photo date taken and location!

Hi all,
With the interview looming I need to start making plans for the big move.
In peoples experience, what is the best way to move sums of money overseas, I would like to use the best possible way without losing too much in horrible charges.
Can anyone assist with this?
Cheers
Danny n Sami!

Hi All!
When I paid my $$$ over the phone for the Interview I think he may have mentioned I can check my status online.......... As to whether I have a date or not .
Is anyone familiar with this, or do I have to wait? If so, how do I find out?!
Cheers

Here is my experience of my trip to the Medical today, I hope it helps some people:
Got the 6:44 train from Ipswich to get me into London Liverpool Street for 07:50, then onto the underground to Bond Street and to the Doctors at 8:15. Easy to find from underground, take Oxford Circus exit turn right, turn left onto Marlybone Lane, follow to Bentick Street, turn right, number 4 flat 4. Ring bell.
Handed over passport, medical history, photo (had a US spec and UK spec, they accepted UK as they trim them down to this size anyway, she let me keep the US ones after I told her how much more expensive they are!) my police check hadn't arrived so they allowed me to simply email it to them once it does, they cannot send my medical report to the Embassy until they see it.
After filling out a similar YES NO form to the prior one, I was in the waiting room (writing this!) very nice receptionists, for anyone tense or nervous, all good so far....
After 10 minutes I got called in by the Radiographer for the chest x ray. Removing all clothing from top half inc necklaces (if you wish not to remove, wear a top with no metal or buttons and they won't make you). After this painless exprience, I was back in the waiting room.
2 minutes later I was escorted to the nurses room where we discussed my vaccination record. It did not need to be up to date today but it will for when I file my AOS in US. I need a new 10 year Booster which I opted to get from my GP back home (note, I was also told if I file my AOS Oct-Mar I would need to prove I have a recent FLU shot aswell!). Back in the waiting room which has now filled up.
After 25 minutes it was time to see the Doctor. Regarding my previous statement concerning removing clothes, buttons are now irrelevant, you will have to strip down to underwear. I also had to prove to her I was infact a male (there has been cases, apparently......)
Simple a sight test, hearing check, height, weight, blood pressure, breathing and blood sample later (syphilis), I was out after 10 minutes, back in the waiting room.
2 minutes later, I was called to reception, given a photocopy of my vaccination history that I provide when I file my AOS. The receptionist said the Embassy will take it if I give it to them so don't, they have their own copy and you won't get it back!
Paid my 210, part cash, part card (they do not take American Express (ha!))
Out by 10, underground then home!
COSTS
Return Train to London £44
Passort Photo £2
Medical £210
Police Report £35
Cider and McDonald's waiting for Train £5 (well deserved)
One step closer.... PRICELESS!!!

After speaking with the Embassy I have since discovered that My J-1 was not subject to the HRR, HAPPY DAYS!
-
Thank you all and I shall keep them for now, SURFS UP!
-
I guess this is a subject most don't know. Was thinking I'd get a little more than this.
Depends on how much faith you have in your lawyer!
1. Cancel the K1 and begin from scratch when the time comes
2. delay the process until Sept 2012
3. Apply for a waiver
4. Continue on from lawyers instructions
This is an area not many people come across- I called the US Embassy and they said if your petition passes the USCIS stage then don't worry about it.

Hi all.
I know that hairstyle says a lot about a person and that certain stereotypes are attributed to certain hairstyles, but I have my interview soon and I have . . .
DREADLOCKS
Now is this really going to pose an issue for me, are they going to look at me and think this punk just wants in because we have good surf seasons and relaxed Californian 'medicinal' views (I have never surfed nor do I 'partake').
I know it's a minor point but if I have to shave them for the benefit of the interviewer, I will do just that.
Anyone with any appearance related experience please contribute!
Cheers Danny

* Kristin * - thank you for the clarification, although i do feel very uneasy going AGAINST what the forms say...
But you guys looks happily married (soon to be!) so i trust you Cheers

No offence here - but as UK prices go, you can almost forget that. They have again changed their forms. You have the ten day option which actually takes 3-4 weeks, so if plenty of time go ahead with that, but bare in mind the certificate is only valid for 6 months, not 12 months like they keep saying.
Or you have the two day option, which will cost you around £70 as a base price. This however can be done swiftly and quickly, however the UK ACPO prefer you send it recorded, and pay then to send it back next day recorded, so add another £12.00($20.00 est) to that price then to speed up the process a postal order - these costs about 10% more on top of the price you need the order for..
Certificate plus
return postage : £77
Photos : £5
Initial Postage : £5
10% on postal Order : £7.70
Also they change the forms alot, so keep your eyes on them, I know this is for the UK certificate, but really dont wait in getting your certificate too long. It becomes an unexpected cost.
I sent off for mine paying for regular because i callled up and they said they are dead quiet and will have it to me within 8-10 WD's. Just hope they were telling me the truth!!
And I also hope it is cheaper in Vancouver for your sake jessicaDiana!
Interview Date waiting time, please all ADD YOUR WEEKS!
