Hi there messybrownhair
1. I noticed for the cheque, you put payment for "N-400" may i ask how come?
2. What is your explanation for eligibility for AP?
Many thanks! hope you are keeping well

Ahh Lisa + Michael, I saw some of the post, but I also saw some posts (as well as what is recommended by visa journey) where they said that you still need to go to a civil surgeon to certify (to fill the form), and they will check your vaccine forms and fill up the form. however, if you have had the medical within the last one year, you DO NOT need a medical examination.
So, you will still need a civil surgeon to certify, the only difference, is the medical check up.
I'm paying it safe and getting it certified anyway even though i have all the vaccines done.
Thanks anyway! i hope it will be easy!
Carefully look at some AOS threads about medicals. If you have a copy of the vaccines signed from your medical, a receipt of the medical as proof you do not need to go to a civil surgeon. When sending in your AOS you do not send in the I-693 if you have those documents. The other important thing is the medical needs to have been completed within a year of your AOS application.
However, some people do need to have the vaccine page transcribed or require additional vaccines. I sent the completed vaccine form and also sent in the I693 only to receive a RFE. I resent my evidence without the I693 and got my work authorization a few weeks later.
Good Luck,
Lise

hi all,
Thank you all for your help.
Like Vanessa & Tony, I used a blue pen to fill out the form as I believe its easier to read.
I kinda filled out most of the forms already, but will do so in black again since it was stated for some forms.
Thank you for your link Vanessa&Tony, I am looking for the "most common answer" because I believe the reason why I'm applying for AP is the same as most; I dont have any overseas travel planned yet, but would like to apply for AP just in case. So, RICARDO4EVA2, i hope that clears it up.
And thank you all for your answer on the SSN issue.

I just entered US a week ago and got married in city hall a day after.
(came in on a K1 visa)
I understand that I need to wait 10-14days before I apply for my SSN number,
that would also be the same time I can get a copy of marriage license for my AOS application.
My question is:
Can I apply for AOS/EAD/AP before I get my SSN Number?
I would need to wait an additional 14 days before I can apply for my AOS.
What do most people write in their AP for travel?
I dont have any travel per se but I just want to get an AP just in case i need to travel.
Please advise.
Also..stupid question, has anyone ever gotten an RFE for using a blue ink to fill the forms (instead of black ink as stated).
Cheers

Congrats everyone! we are all here! one year later!
I think i'm probably the last of the decemberite getting my SSN and AOS stuff done.
We finally got married in SF on tuesday (13 dec) and I'm starting the paperwork for everything esle!
Question:
For SSN: What did you guys tick for: Citizenship (legal alien allowed to work? legal alien not allowed to work? others?)
Anyone in the SF area found a good civil surgeon?

Good Morning all, here I am, a married and living in MN! The wedding was fantastic, all that I could of asked for. Adjusting to living here on the other hand is a bit challenging. Things are better a week later, but the first week of unpacking was not fun and being restricted to the USA is more upsetting to me than I thought it would be. But......the good news is that I love Michael with all my heart and soul and he has been wonderfully patient with me as I settle in. We also received our marriage license in the mail on Saturday (imagine mail on Saturday lol). We will go make copies tomorrow and start on the AOS paperwork so that I can be free to visit my family whenever I want!
Have an awesome day everyone!
Lise
Love your pic! it would be great if everyone would post their wedding pics..
and then...their baby pics..
and then...their grandchildren pics.
HAHAHHA

Thanks all!
In the end, it was a false alarm.
the bookings only open 90days in advance. Fiance was too early.
we now have the date

thanks all!
Other than vegas, does anyone know where near SF we can have a "quick wedding"?
we are doing all the ceremonial stuff in Asia anyway..we just want something quick.
Also....would getting married in Vegas raise eyebrows when we go for our Green card interviews?
-
Hi all,
I just found out that San Francisco City Hall is closed from Dec 9 to the New Year.
In short, they will not be issuing any marriage licenses, or conducting any ceremonies there.
My POE is Dec 12 (the date cannot be changed) and I was hoping to get married ASAP so that I can apply for my work visa ASAP.
Can anyone advice what my other options are? For example:
1. Can my fiance collect our marriage license beforehand, and we find a celebrant to marry us? (but..i think we need both parties to be around to get married)
2. Can we travel to somewhere nearby? Maybe Napa and get it done there? Vegas is an option...but...trying to see if there is anything nearby.
Why would a government office be closed for so long?! it's unheard of where i come from!!

hello all!
I have started putting together my AOS papers.
One question:
What is the Alien Registration Number? where do i find it?
Does anyone have a sample of what they wrote on their AP as the reason why they need an AP?
I dont have any particular trips plan, but i would like to have my AP at hand.

Met my fiance when I was doing a work exchange programme.
Honestly thought it was a fling at first ( 4 weeks of getting to know each other and a million miles away seemed like an impossible task)..
until the day he sent me to the airport and said, "You are the girl I'm going to marry" and when he passed a wedding fair billboard, he said, "i'm going there later to check it out and get you a ring" (he tells me it was a joke at that point in time) and we decide there and then we "see how it goes"
Apparently, he told his mum about it and asked what he should do. his mum told him to "take the offroad".
Im an offroad
It took 2 years of travelling back and forth, including him coming to work in Singapore with me for a year before we decided to take the leap.
here is to the next leg of our adventure.

Thank you everyone for your replies.
It has certainly been really helpful in helping me understand the implications of the GC and taxes.
Best regards to all

Both of you need to decide where you want to live, in US it is different than Asia. Come visit and see or take a chance. Green Card means a permanent residence, you can vacation in Asia, travel on your home county passport etc. Life your life with who you want not the government.
I appreciate your comment. No matter what, we will be together. I have been to the US on numerous occasions and for now..the decision is to be based there for the next 5 years and then we will take stock again. But there are other external factors to consider; the economy, job opportunities, ageing parents...not just the government. I was just wanted to understand the implication of the Green Card, taxes etc and see if there was a possible alternate route, should there be a need for us to move.
-
Thanks all for your replies.
Yes. I think we might return to Asia in a few years time to work; but there is also an issue of if we want to come back in the USA after that. Seems a long time away, but if I give up a Green Card....it would be very difficult to get it back again, right?
But i do acknowledge that with a K1, if I do not get a green card, i wouldnt be able to work.
From what I understand, we usually get a 2 year green card, and after that, a 10 year green card? or naturalisation?
The issue is..say, after 2 years, I do not renew the green card and we move back to Asia for a while.
Does that mean if we want to come back to the USA after say....5 years...i would need to apply for a CR1?
If i give up my citizenship in my home country, it also means it would be really difficult for me to ever get a work visa in my home country ever again...its not a risk I am willing to take coz I never know what the future my hold; ie. parents health requires us to based in Singapore again.

(please feel free to move it to the correct thread).
Hi all,
Just wondering, what does it mean to get a green card?
I'm asking this because I have just gotten my fiancee visa and I will enter the USA soon and start the whole AOS, work authorisation process.
The thing is, I am doing this because I want to marry my fiance and be with him in the same country. We have discussed this issue and we have not ruled out moving back to Asia (where I am from) in the future. Someone told me if I took on the Green Card, it would also mean paying USA taxes for the rest of my life (even if I'm working in Asia).
So my question is, what does it mean if i do not get a green card, if i only get work authorisation?
Do i have to renew it every year? what rights am i denying myself?
I am happy to pay US taxes if I'm working in USA, it just scares me a little i would potentially need to keep paying even if I left USA in the future.
It is unlikely I'll renounce my citizenship and my country doesnt allow dual citizenship.

hi all,
My visa application was approved today.
The questions they asked me were:
how did you get to know each other?
Have either of you been married? (I said no. first time. and last time).
Do you have any kids? (no)
What job do you currently have now? Do you have a job in US?
What does you fiance do?
What are your wedding plans?
They focus their attention mainly on the evidence provided.
Being work nerds, we did a powerpoint that showed the timeline (when we first met..date...and showed all the trips we had made).
she used that as her reference mostly..in fact...she stopped me from explaining the different times we had met...
At the end, she said to me, "its nice to have such an easy and straightforward case for a change!".
Your visa has been approved. Please collect your passport and papers a week from now. It is valid for 6 months.
HAHA.
apart from the questioning..what was gruelling was the wait.
a 45mins wait to submit your documents and have a lady check it. she also asked me questions (see above)
a 2hour wait to meet the officer where she asked more detailed questions.
the interview was weird...it was a room full of people waiting (for immigrant and non-immigrant visas)...you have to stand at the window and talk to them.
I thought it would be a private room..with nice "comfy chairs"
i saw a lot of people tip toe-ing....and you also hear a lot of people's stories (everyone hears all your answers!)
i saw a couple get turned down at the first lady because the guy couldnt get his wedding date right, and some other issues...she was quite hard on the questioning.

Yup Rallybug. Thailand is just a ceremonial wedding! the legal wedding (city hall style) will be in US.
-
I am going to see my fiance next week
I am spending 2 weeks with him and will have my interview at the consulate a day after I come back.
I know it seems funny...but...I dont plan to have my POE till 12 Dec as we are having the ceremonial wedding at the end of Nov in my side of the world. It will be a little like the Hangover 2, Bangkok followed by a beach ceremony in thailand, hopefully, minus the drama. I also made a commitment at work which means I shouldnt leave the job till the end of the year.
Right now..i'm occupying my time with getting stuff for the wedding...like the perfect shoe...and the perfect body! haha
For the folks that are still waiting for their NOA2, hang in there! And for all the upcoming interviews..good luck!

For Question 11 on the I-134 form, the example form states to leave the boxes blank (I intend, do not intend) and in the line below type in N/A K1 visa process for permanent residence.
In reality, my fiance will be footing the bills (and i can contribute a little from my savings) till I get a job, and then, we'll split the expenses. What should we write?
Also, my fiance's current salary meets the poverty guidelines and we also have 2-3 tax forms to prove it. Do we still need a little from the bank stating how much he has in his account?
cheers,
-
I've got my interview date. July 13. wish me luck

Hi all,
Just wanted to check, what happens if I want to take on my husband's family name?
Given my K1 visa, passport is in my own family name.....
what do i do in the event i want to take my husband's family name after the wedding ceremony?
Do i need to get a new passport with his family name?
The social security number form should be in his family name?
Please advise.
Cheers,
Venetia

Hi all. My packet 3 has been recieved by my consulate. So..i'm now waiting for an interview date!
I'm not allowed to send the packet 3 in till my medical, police certs are in.
There is a form to sign that you have collected all the info before you can send it in.
My police certs and medical could not been done till recieved my packet 3.
they all required me to have a copy of the letter, with the case letter, before they will give the items to me.
-
Hi,
I am not sure if this is an option for you..but consider this:
1. Apply for the K1 Visa NOW
2. He flies up to Oct for the wedding, but it is ONLY a ceremonial wedding. Ie, you dont sign any official papers etc.
3. He flies back to UK after the wedding (by which time..K1 should be on its way, he will have the interview etc)
4. Fly back to the USA after he gets the fiance visa and get married in City Hall.
