As per VJ tradition, here is my interview experience.

My district office is Tampa, Florida. I was scheduled to be called for interview at 10:30am. I arrived at 10:20am. I used the waiting time to run through the flash cards from the USCIS website once more. My name was called at 10:40am. The interview lasted 20 minutes. I opened my folder on the spare seat next to me to show I could provide whatever the officer needed in terms of originals or extra documents, but she did not ask for anything.

After a little chitchat, I was asked to read "Who elects Congress?". I was asked to write "The people elect Congress". Then asked:

1. Who is the Commander in Chief of the military?

2. What are two major political parties in the United States?

3. What is the political party of the President now?

4. Who wrote the Declaration of Independence?

5. Name three of the original thirteen states.

6. Name one state that borders Mexico.

The officer stopped after 6 questions since I got those right.

I'm moving to Colorado in a few days to start a new job and expected my Oath to be delayed by a few months while my file was transferred to a new district office. In fact, the opposite happened. At the end of the interview, the officer said what I expected to hear. That is that my Oath might be delayed by a few months due to my file being transferred to Denver. I said that it was unfortunate that getting a job would be a bad thing in terms of delaying citizenship. She agreed and mentioned that she could schedule the oath to be taken in Tampa on the next available date which is September 21, but I declined, saying I didn't want to take a few days off from a new job and spend a few hundred dollars coming back to Tampa and that I was willing to wait the extra time to take the Oath in Denver if necessary.

Then she asked me to wait and left the office. On her return she said that getting a new job should not be a bad thing and asked if I wanted to wait around the USCIS office for a few hours and if so, they might be able to hold an Oath for me only that day. Needless to say, I said that would be fantastic so I waited, not knowing if they could go ahead with the Oath or not as they were not sure themselves, and if so, how long I would be waiting. I took the chance anyway.

I was called back into the office only 30 minutes later, did the Oath, turned in my permanent resident card, was given my Naturalization Certificate, as well as a little book called The Citizens Almanac and a little American flag, the Oath administrator shook my hand, congratulated me and that was that. I am a US citizen!

we have to be past 3 years before approaval

seems right to me

now having to make 2 trips to miami for interview and then oath

seems over the top

we are here working our arses off trying to survive

yet they make it extremely difficult go figure

Shakysgirl - sorry to hear this continuing saga... To be extremely honest, in my case, I was expecting not to get an interview until the 3 years of eligibility as a PR are completed - it's a eligibility criteria so it seemed to me that I would not get an interview until that date was passed. Hence, when I was replying previously to folks on this list about going to do walk-in FPs, I wasn't sure it would make any difference in my case for example, because the interview date would have to be after my September anniversary date... And frankly that puts Naturalization in a 4 month processing time, and perhaps another month for Oath, but after waiting 10+ months for ROC process to complete, that's still pretty good...

Others may have a different take, perhaps its up to the Oath time that the eligibility date is counted, or you might want to post in the main forum about it, to get the guidance of those who understand the CFRs...

I hope the new ASC I have to go to is nice also, I was all set to go to the place that was just a couple of miles from our house that I went to twice before, but this appointment is at an ASC about 20 miles away - I think it must be a new one too, so I'll be interested to see how it's different...

just completed BIO in new Fort Myers FL location for ASO.

Been open just 4 weeks , staff were courteous and friendly so unlike that dump at ft lauderdale.

Anyhow on comment card they asked me to fill out I marked excellent for all.

and added that it would be nice to have a ft myers office for interview /test/oath .

Seems I am headed for miami for that last step in the journey.

This is a second try for me. I applied in Jan 09 based on marriage to USC, based on 90 rule prior to 3 yrs. Turns out, I applied a little early. Problem was that I already had GC from my employer a yr before I got married, so I filed abou 15 days prior to my 3rd anniversary, whereas the 90 rule only applied to the date on the GC. I know its a little confusing, but in short to file on marriage basis you HAVE to pass your 3rd anniversary.

I was married in april 2005 but entered usa aug 2 2006

I have sent n 400 and really do not expect any problems because I sent approx 80 days before my 3rd anniversary of entry.

If I encounter a problem I will let you all know

as for the 4 to 6 months well my 751 took nearly a year.

transferred from tsc to vsc

but I reckon 6 months should do it for the n-400

After looking at a few timelines I guess that its between 4 to 6 months for any of the processes (K1 or K3 or AOS or Removal or Citizenship) - it has held generally true in my wife's progression in each step. And yes, some people do get stuck in namechecks etc. and can take longer for any of the steps. Good Luck

Moved here from Charlotte, NC last June and love it here. I live on the intersection of US-19 and Gulf-to-Bay Blvd. so we're close to everything, nor far from the beach and just 20 minutes from Tampa. I'm doing my degree in computer science right now and eventually I'll need to look for a job elsewhere in the US and move again as there's nothing in my field anywhere in Florida, but I'm reluctant to move as I like Clearwater and Florida as a whole so much.

Watching the news and all the snow and people dressed like eskimos up north just makes me even more reluctant to leave here.

Alrighty then (thanks for clarifying about the number Kathryn - I had no idea! )....I just got off the phone with USCIS (who were UNBELIEVABLY prompt in picking up...amazing!

They dug up the case via my alien # (as you said they would) and lo and behold the whole case is indeed under the biometrics appt. case number, only I can't see it online. They received the biometrics in April at CSC and so far the case is still pending and that is the number I can use - but I have to call, apparently, since I still can't see it online. Confounding.

I applied without my ex spouse, so I guess this would cause the delay. Still - gawd - how long have others waited in my position? This is tedious! I only have a few months left before the letter extending the card expires and then what? I haven't even had an RFE...

buying wifes car and then going to pay off loan in 3 months.

so thats a good start.

but have 2 amex cards just called and told them my new address in florida

of course they are canuck issued cards

the amex CSR told me to reapply for cards in USA .

seems to me that will just open up a can of worms

I pay my amex thru BOM if I pay thru my usa bank I guess they will start charging me

for currency conversion

we too had a breeze thru peace bridge last thursday morn at fort Erie NY

no probs at all we have a 12ft u haul towed behind our 4 runner

which has s dakota plates and of course we have FL d licenses.

so happy not to go south via hwy 75 from ontario

realised on aug 12 th that from cinncy to detroit is not very scenic etc etc

and hauling a trailer is not reccomende thru there.

we headed south via 90/79/19/77

jules loves the scenery from NY to WV to Virginia and into NC

we are right now in Charlotte ,resting up ,we are both really sick after our

europe cruise was 100 plus in athens on aug 22

interested in moving to NC in the future ,so we are looking at homes today.

luckily we also avoided staying with mates in NJ

so missed ernesto , we have had good weather too.

hopefully my ssn will be in naples upon arrival

s dakota/badlands/ black hills /sturgis rally 06 /mt rutherford all marvellous places .

back to hogtown ughhhhhhhhh aug 10th

reentered one way flt to atlanta sun aug 13

jules drove up g\from naples fl picked me up @ airport

headed north one night stop then in hogtown 6 pm

traffic mess everywhere in toronto

we were going to cross with 12 ft tow trailer @ sarnia/blue bridge on aug 30th

but have cancelled that plan .have a good mate in grand bend on and hoped to say adios

and stay in GB fOR one night

but having travelled the detroit road system -- NO BLOODY WAY JOSE!!!!

and for you guys a pointer ____ the bridge at sarnia was backed

up for 4 MILES FOR USA ENTRY !!!

we breezed over into canada.

so have ruled that out as a crossing point.

we willl do rainbow bridge no trucks allowed there in niagra falls.

should be fine . then hit the 90 west and head for charlotte/atlanta

taking a week to get to naples , unless theirs a "cane " blowin.

so any one having ideas of bluewater/sarnia I suggest research

50% of traffic was TRUCK TRAFFIC BTW.
