Yay! I had the oath ceremony today in Baltimore at 11 AM.

We arrived at 10.30 AM - parked in a garage near the Federal Building ($12/hour). There was quite a long queue through security - showed my appointment letter and ID and went through to a holding area. We were then all ushered upstairs to the ceremony. There was a lot of people - around 200. After being seated, we had to line up, hand in our green cards, collect our little flag and some historical booklets and check the details on the certificate, then go sit down again.

We stood up, the national anthem was played and an officer then gave a small speech on what it means to be a US citizen. Then there was a small welcome video from the president, then another officer gave a speech.

We then all stood up, raised our right hands and gave the oath of allegiance (we were given a paper with it on to read). Also, everyone in the room had to stand up, and we all said the pledge of allegiance.

Four officers then started reading out peoples' names and you had to go up and collect your certificate. There was a small break where you could ask any questions, then we could go.

It was a nice event, a bit hectic as there were so many people, but generally well organised. The little booklet they gave us on US history is quite nice!

That's it then! Hard to believe it is over really....next stage...passport application and social security update.

Don't know how it is in FL, but in TX they use DLs to determine citizens/non-citizens to call for jury duty - if you update your details be aware... but hey isn't it good to have the responsibility now

All Done! 176 people from 46 countries were naturalized in the 1st ceremony today. Hopefully Red Diablo found a place to park, as it was crowded with a long line of people waiting at 7.20am, but the ceremony was all completed before 9am.

Since then I have been to SS Office, completed my voters registration and sent my passport application on its way.

now heres the cynic in me 175 approx x how much we spent on the first visa , conditions and then the naturalisation

2000 is a approx figure with the bios included so today we had 2 ceremonies with 350 peoples

oops that makes 700,000 dollars and the make us line up in a hot smoggy car park.

was glad to see my wife just made it in to ceremony we are back in naples fl thanks to zeus for that

went to hilton don shulas steak house for a nice nose bag

lovely food and fine glass of merlot.

so now they get another 100 bucks for pp will NOT register on voter list

due to fact having my own small business and I CANNOT afford to be stuck on jury duty down here in republican alley.

now they do not even give u lunch on jury duty due to cost cutting.

should cut the lawyers fees imho

anyhow thats it will get pp soon as poss.

Thanks Guys, I spent some time today (early start in the morning for a 7.30 appointment) preparing a passport application, completing my form but not signing it and making sure I have my 10 year GC, and the letter as well as my little aussie flag pin!

We have a full day planned tomorrow, with a quick trip home after the ceremony to scan and print copies of the certificate, go to the Social Security office to change my status and then to the courthouse or city hall to put in the passport application. I hate the feeling of being unable to travel again, lol but I will add my details to the passport list on this forum, and keep watching and wishing you luck as you all complete your journeys, too

Happy to report that my application was recommended for approval today and received my Oath Letter for October 21st :dance:

Here's my experience:

The Houston DO is up by the airport. We arrived early due to hubby's speeding (ah these natural born citizens ). Parking is pretty tight, they had an overflow parking lot. My husband has spine issues so he can't walk very far, so we had to use his disabled tag to get a space close to the building. Very unfriendly security guard working the gate.

Passed through security to get into the building, no cell phones allowed, metal detector is super sensitive, I was wearing a silver bangle that set it off... Hubby had to remove belt. Once you get inside there's a huge hall of different areas each with their own seating sections, Infopass long line, another for Permanent Residency, another for Deportation and finally right at the end is Naturalization. So I drop the letter in the box and wait. I'm about 40mins early for my appointment. About 10 mins later, a friendly IO comes out, and calls my name. We go off to a cubicle to the side of the seating area to do the Civics/English Test. He makes a few jokes about my surname (I have a 'famous' name).

Civics answers:

- 6 years

- 9

- declared our independence from GB

- Speaker of the House

- Washington DC

- executive branch

English reading test was Where is the White House? Writing: The White House is in Washington D.C. IO made a joke that he thought it was funny he had to test people from England's english

So passed all that, then back to the waiting area for the interview... freezing cold in there, totally over AC'd. Only about 10 mins wait, and younger IO calls my name and we go back to his office. Introduces himself, tells me to put my stuff down (I have armfuls of files ) and raise my right arm to tell the truth etc. We sit down, I give him my passport, GC and DL and he starts reviewing file, at first he queries the spelling of my last name, he seems a bit confused and he's looking through the namecheck docs (I can read some of it upside down), for one moment I thought there was a problem but he resolved it I guess in his head *phew*. Then moves on to asking me about my husband, his name, where was he born, what does he do? Looks through our app, asks me for original marriage cert, hubby's passport and birth cert. Looks through the app some more, and asks "who put this package together?" And I said I did, and he says "this is really great, it makes my job so much easier" Asks about our home that we purchased at the beginning of the year, and that was great, and I had the feeling everything was going very well... Asks about do we have children (we don't), and I said no, just dogs/cats... Anyway that sent us off into meandering conversation about dogs, and how he wants a dog, and his neighbor has a terrier, and he can't remember what type it is. So he starts Googling in the middle of the interview, and showing me pictures of Irish Terriers. Asked if I had pics of our dogs, and I said no, they are all in my phone, and its in the car because of security so I can't show them to you... Of course, I have EVERY utility bill, major purchase receipts, bank statements, life insurance, house insurance, auto insurance, wills etc for the last 3 years - but no pictures of my dogs We talk about the SPCA, and different kinds of dogs etc etc...

Finally we get back on track after about 10-15mins, he looks through the tax transcripts, asks some other minor details, and starts stamping things.... Asks me to sign my pictures with my regular signature, and to put that same sig on the N400 (because I had signed my full first middle last name, not my everyday sig), so did that. Check through what is going to be on my certificate, (wrong country Ukraine is in there, not UK ) and gives the approval letter Says the next Oath is Oct 21 and to wait for the OL outside. I asked him if there's any chance to get in on Wednesday's ceremony but he says no, the cutoff was Friday - oh well... He walks me back out to the door, and I thank him.

OL took about 40 mins to get, and the date of the interview is noted as July 14 not September 14, but I guess all that matters is the Oct 21 date...

Congratulations Red Diablo, I bet you are glad that you got a leter time. I understand they have limited space, as you say though, they need to accommodate the 1 guest we are allowed. Oh well, it is the end of an excruciating journey so celebrations are on the cards, I may have a grand shredding time of all the bits of paper I kept as proof, that are no longer needed.

Maybe I will see you as I leave.....

hey just reading about a guy in darwen who had a 10 ft python in his "dunny"

my late brother was up there working in the kimberley range in the sixties.

I know we have a big issue here near the glades with burmese pythons.

mate of mine is fl wildlife ranger , he saw one 30 ft long just 10 miles east of naples

usually its just spiders .

got bit bad by fire ants yesterday on tiburon golf course at ritz carlton.

hey up jayde I will be just leaving house when you sworn in.

gotta get a few things of my chest.

Why the fook do they tell you one guest then have the balls to type the guest may not be allowed in the room.

be kept in waiting area till ceremony is over.

Just schedule each ceremony for 50% of room capacity simple yes.

my wifes giving up a 12 hour night shift at tallahassee hospital to come to this.

She is a very proud american gal from S Dakota how she will be insulted to be told she cannot enter

Is this done on a first come basis?? if so do I need tp leave naples at 6 am to get to ft lauderdale for 9am

Ps I still havent got the formatting correct so will leave it to one of you clever people to update the list for me. I dont know what I need to do to get it right but it always looks a mess when I do it.

the officer I had was quite concerned when he couldnt find the code for Oz, so I think my question is answered. He also asked me if I was dual, I told him yes by birth but that I used an Australian Passport.

Yep the Wednesday bit was what I was told and that it could be at different times, so lets hope you dont draw the 8 am one. I have no idea if they have a big room beyond those double wooden doors though, so dont know exactly where the ceremony will be

I drove the 120 miles at 6 am this morning.

My IO was telling me that an earlier interview this morning was a guy also from naples.

And that he risked his life by sleeping in his car outside the office after driving over in the night from naples.

He was concerned traffic would make him late.

Jokingly I asked if he was a "brit"

No he is Polish she replied and very foolish

Area around oakland park is a high crime area.

REalised that when I got a java at BP station and girl serving me was locked in a cage at 9am.

No way to live in my opinion glad I am in Naples.

the original certifictes were all thats bothering me.

I need my wifes BC both our divorce certificates. wedding certificate think thats about it.

of course my greencard/ passport I think thats about it for documents.

we might be at same oath party.

trust the govt to schedule a wednesday in middle of work week and 250 mile round trip.

fridays would be great time to relax and enjoy the moment .

nice one Jayde you are nearly done and you started our june thread too.

We went through the security about 30 minutes before the appointment time, this is always a little more difficult for hubby and his pacemaker, checked in with the appointment letter at the desk and was told to wait in the room to the right where I would be called by name. The appointment letter mentioned to allow 2 hours but I was finished in 20 - 30 minutes.

We watched as lots of families and individuals were called to the windows, with a number system and others were being called by name and disappearing through some wooden doors. I was called by name and we both got up but the officer told us my husband he was not needed so he waited there.

I followed the officer and when we arrived at his office he introduced himself asked me to remain standing in order to administer the oath to tell the truth, then he drew the file towards him and took the top papers off. He asked to see my greencard and passport and then hubby's birth certificate and the documents that I had sent copies of. He was checking off the forms that I had submitted and went through each question, either ticking or writing comments as he went. He asked how the marriage was inquiring if we were happy but mainly the questions were those that I had answered on the forms.

He got me to sign on a couple of pages, and also on the photos, which he removed from the little baggy that I had placed them in when I sent them.

He asked 6 questions from the booklet, like who was the next in line after the President and the VP, I know he asked the other 5 but dont remember exactly which they were, all I know is my memory didnt fail me, as I had feared. He was pleasant and professional, and by then I had got over some of the nerves that I was feeling. He had me read "when is Columbus Day" and write that it is in October.

He asked about my children and questioned our current address and the time we had spent outside the USA, he seemed worried when he couldnt find the country code for Australia and discussed the fact that I was already a dual citizen being British born, so I guess my question is answered about when to stand up.

He gave me a receipt and we left feeling happy that in the next weeks or months I should receive a letter with an appointment for an Oath Ceremony. These are held at various times of the day on a Wednesday at the Oakland Park Office.

Success, my file that was started in 2004 and has all the documents that we have tendered over the last 5 years is stamped approved.

Thats just not cricket old chap! bringing up that the better team on the day took the ashes!

Like you I have been absent from the old dart since the 70ies and they appear to be making me use my country of birth, so I will be standing as a brit, maybe.... havent felt like one for a very long time and if we are at the same ceremony they may do a double take, if we are both bobbing up and down like a clown at a funfair.

Hey Jayde 2 weeks today you will have passed test.

I am coming to ft lauderdale for weekend 28/30th

my interview is 9-45 am mon 31st aug taking monday off and driving back to naples after interview.

hope they do oaths on fridays much nicer to take time and weekend off .
