Is Original Passport from Home Country Needed When Apply for US Citizenship?? (merged)

Hello. My husband arrived in the US by way of a K3 Visa in January 2013. He is now a permanent resident. He is from Turkey and is planning a trip back to Turkey in February 2021.

His passport that he used to gain entry to the US that contains his K-3 visa and entry stamp has expired. The Turkish consulate advised that he will need to go in person, apply for a new passport and send his expired passport with his application. They WILL NOT return his expired passport with the K-3 visa to him. Once his new passport is issued, his expired passport will be destroyed.

Does my husband need to have his original passport with his K-3 visa, entry stamp and A# to apply for citizenship/naturalization? Will he need this passport at anytime durning the naturalization process?

Any assistance you can provide would be greatly appreciated. His appointment to renew his passport is this Thursday so we want to ensure he does not renew his passport if he will need his passport with the K-3 visa at any point during the naturalization process.

Has anyone here had to renew their home country passport prior to obtaining US citizenship?

Many thanks!

Hi,

We are at the moment in process of filling my wife's I-864 form. However in our case things are a little bit complicated;

* My wife is a dual citizen and living outside of USA in her second country for over 10 years now.

* Also she is currently living with me where I am working in a country other than my home country where she is on tourist visa since March 2020 due to covid. So we are living together since March 2020 however due to nature of my job our address changes almost every 3 months. By the way the country we are at the moment is neither my home country, I have residency visa in this country and my wife doesn't.

Under this information, can you please suggest us what is the right way to fill I-864 form regarding the physical address? Should we write where she normally registered in her 2nd country? Should we write our current address in this 4th country which I am working and we are currently living together?

As a side information; in I-130 form which is approved already, we have written her address in her 2nd country.

Green card recalled

Hello all,

I came to the US in 2014 with F-1 to pursue my Ph.D. I was working as an assistant at the school, so I had an SSN. I got married to an American citizen, we left the US for 2 years, started the immigrant visa process. We came back to the US and I entered the US with my IR-1 in October 2019. When we were processing the application, I did not ask for a new SSN card or number since I already had one.

In December 2019, I got my green card. My SSN number is same with my USCIS number on the front side of the card and my alien registration number on the behind of the card is same with my SSN number as well.

Today I got a letter from USCIS, saying that this number on the behind of the card is wrong and it should be a different number. They want me to send the card back to them and they will issue a new corrected one.

- Does this have anything to do with my SSN number? Should I let the social security know it?

- I have been employed since I entered the US in Oct 2019. Do I need to update my job about it?

- Has this happened to someone else? We are planning to apply for a mortgage loan nowadays and will I need my green card for any reason?

Thank you so much!
