US Immigration from Malawi

Beyond the academic paperwork needed is someone who is in the US on a k1 visa able to attend college before getting a green card? Do they need a social security number?

So my boyfriend's visa interview was rescheduled due to a big planned political demonstration near the embassy in Malawi Africa.

He went this morning for the interview, paid the fee, provided all the documents and then he along with 7 others were told the embassy was having an emergency meeting and were asked to wait outside and they would call them back inside in an hour.

When he went in they told him that his case required more time and rescheduled the interview to next week. All of the other applicants were applying for student visas so they remained there.

I'm thinking that because he is applying for a K1 is why they asked him to return on a different day or could be why they were unprepared? Am I totally off base? They also kept his passport so does that mean they could process it and return to him when he goes next week??

A few days after receiving my case number by phone I got an email from the NVC in response to an inquiry. They told me my case was undergoing administrative processing.

When I called the following day they said that all cases at the NVC go through some AP as they prepare for the consulate stage and I shouldn t worry.

While this eased some of my fears I have been able to find very little online about AP while at NVC.

I am heading to visit my partner in a few days with limited email/ability to call the NVC.

Has anyone experienced this lately? Am I safe to assume my case will be shipped out on 6/25 as I had hoped it would? My case status just says at NVC

My boyfriend is from Malawi, Africa and we got our NOA2 on 5/13/19. I am going to visit next month and so we are trying to do all we can in hopes that he might be able to fly home with me the first week in August. We do not have our case number yet from the NVC but am hoping to do the medical/police certificate as soon as we can so that once the case has arrived he can interview shortly after. (from what I can tell it is not hard to get an interview date but the medical office may be a bit backed up) For the medical it says that you must bring an appointment letter, is that something that the embassy gives him? I was hoping that once we get the case number he can schedule but am unsure and it has been difficult getting any straight answer from them.
