Hey Doug and George:

This has always been one of the most difficult decisions for me. When to change the name? We opted to keep her original name through the entire visa process. We will probably look at changing it in the near future or when we apply to remove the conditions. I called CIS and they said it might be a good idea to do it when we apply to remove the conditions. If you do it before that time then they will schedule an appointment at a CIS service center to do fingerprints, etc. and order a new green card. Our CIS service center is about 6 hours away in Jacksonville. The CIS rep seemed to indicate it would be easier to wait the 2 years.

I was wondering if, when you apply to remove conditions and she still has her maiden name, if they look at that as a sign that the marriage is not legitimate. The CIS rep I talked to said that should not be a concern if you have all the other evidence of a legitimate marriage. She said they are used to this situation. So I think we will attempt to change the name in 2 years or maybe we will just keep it the way it is and never change it.

Thanks for the recent replies, it's great to have you all still in our "corners" while you roam free in greener pastures... Obviously there are many more papers to fill out and obtain, for all. I'm looking forward to my wife getting her US Citizenship, personally, but that will have to wait until at least, next week!

I got the letter from the NVC with barcode and instructions. I posted the letter in my photos if you want to see what it says. as you can see, they include a link (the one we've been throwing around here) to the instructions and to download the DS230. so, yes, as the website has stated, those of us going through bogota have to send the additional documents to the NVC, translated. i just sent it out so we'll see. oh, one more thing, the envelope that they included had the letters APPT stamped on the lower left corner in big letters. i don't know if this is important but those that want to send out the ds230 as soon as its generated may want to include that detail on their envelope. also, make sure to write down the case number on the upper right corner of every page you send to the NVC.

a dozen Snickers wrappers, but I think it is better that I follow the instructions as you have posted.

I'm still waiting for the NVC to generate my ds-230, but when they do, I'm gonna tell 'em that you are my kid

brother and that way we can get interviews on the same day!

I'm confused. The letter says "Yoy MUST RETURN THIS PAGE along with the requested documents", I assume you sent the documents without the letter...? Or were you waiting for the letter all this time before you sent everything out? Maybe I missunderstood.

By the way, thanks for posting the letter. We're slowly detangling the web NVC has weaved.

i got the letter at the same time that i was going to mail the docs, so i took out the barecode sheet i had generated using the shortcuts and replaced it with the one i got that day from nvc. i also used the white envelope that was included.

the letter that i posted has the case number and barcode on the bottom along with my wifes name on the top in the first sentence and my name on the bottom where it refers to the petitioner, which i erased before posting. i can't tell you for sure if i had mailed the docs with the barcode sheet generated with the shortcuts if it would have made any difference, probably not since most of the information is the same, except for the addition of the names in the letter the nvc sent.

Way to go, JK! Thanks a bunch. I think you're right, as long as the barcode and case number is on there (and you send the right docs), they should still accept the thing. Well -- "should," but who knows.

A couple of questions pop up from looking at the letter -- first, is that on some kind of colored NVC stationery bond with the Statute of Liberty logo? Also, are they no longer indicating the type of visa sought -- CR1, IR1 -- next to the case number, as they did with the earlier instructions page?

I've amended the page provided in the shortcuts based upon your letter. Obviously, it could use a better logo since I just cribbed the one from your sample. Let me know how it matches up:

The shortcuts will definitely have to be tweaked. People in any event (or at least those in APP embassies) will want to get started immediately on rounding up police reports, etc.

A high-quality color scan would have been nice but this is probably enough. I can make the logo blue

although that means people will need to print out on color printers or send it to Kinko's or something. Was it just the logo that was blue or was this on special blue-colored stationery as well?

I'm not an immigration attorney, nor a good-looking NON-immigration attorney like James....

but I can tell you I prolly will be submitting a manufactured form based on JK's original

(with special thanks-James )...

So I will post here, how that turns out for me.

I have sucessfully submited replicas of 3 other cover letters, so I'm sure this will work!

i really don't see why they wouldn't accept the generated one, even without the blue logo since ALL of the info is there and correct. james did a super job, it looks just like the original and james, it was only the logo that was blue, everything else, was black and white, blace text on white paper.

another thing, i uploaded a revised copy to show you where they put an additional barcode to the left of "INSTRUCTION PACKET AGENT", right above the Agents name. i blacked out both barcodes to the exact size on the letter with the one on top being smaller. also, CR-1 was not printed next to the barcode. hope this helps
