I think we should stop reading things into people's statements that simply aren't there...

Also if people are really that that offended by people playing the "race card" on this issue, it would probably help to avoid using terms like "Banana Republic" (i.e. a grotesque stereotype) that does nothing for your legitimate arguments.

The term "Banana Republic" is hardly a trigger to pull the race card. It refers to economics, not race. Besides, those with no coherent and rational argument pull the race cared because they have no coherent and rational argument.

I agree its not a race argument, well not entirely about race - it is broad-brush national stereotype which includes (on some level) an ethnic demarcation in its original context (typically applied to south american and african countries).

If you want to pull the "those with no coherent and rational argument pull the race cared because they have no coherent and rational argument" card - at least have consistent standards. A grotesque stereotype such as "Banana Republic" hardly serves the purposes of a coherent and rational dialog, does it?

So you are saying that it is moral, ethical, popular, and good for America for illegal aliens to enter our country illegally, work illegally, and use identity theft, fraud, and counterfeit documents to do so?

Yes...they are not vicious criminals...they are merely common criminals. In your scenario anarchy clearly does not lead to order. The only joke going on is on the American people who, at the rate this going, will soon find ourselves living in a banana republic.

Uh, no, I'm not saying that at all. My point was that it's important to examine the supposed laws, their benefits, how they came to be, and how and whether they're being applied before you make blanket statements. Actually, I should make a clarification: Immigration laws aren't the joke, it's how they're being enforced that's the joke.

I was also noting that the phrase "law and order" is meaningless in this context. And I'm not promoting anarchy. But if laws led to order, the U.S. should be a utopia. We have more laws on the books than just about anybody, and look at our crime rates, removing illegal immigrants from the equation.

...and we have more people incarcerated than any other industrialized nation. We're doing several things wrong in terms of achieving social harmony.
