Okay guys Ive a question that needs lots of opinionated answers.. I know that the process to bring my fiance over here is going to be a long journey hopefully only lasting 6 months maybe more... but do you guys think it would be easier to just apply for a visa to move to the uk? I.e. less time consuming and whatnot?? Just wondering if any of you uk'ers know of anyone thats come to the uk on a fiance visa? Is the time frame still the same as far as the application and such??? Just asking this question as I already have all documentation and supporting documentation for the UK visa that is required.... I just want to be with him before the end of next year comes.. Any input or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards,

Shawna & Chris

please elobarate, re a USC and is ur fiance a british citizen, re u trying to immigrate to uk on a spouse visa,if u re USC u dont need visa to visit UK, but if u want to live in uk with ur fiance, he can come overe to US and marry u then u will apply for marriage visa which is similarly called conditional green card, once u both marry in us, u can just go to british embassy and apply for the marriage visa which is temporary permanent resident then if u both still marry after 2 years then u will apply for indefinate permanent resident, after 3 years u will apply for british citizen ,it does not require any long time processing as i know few years back. even if u get ur temporary perment resident in uk and u both live there for couple of month u can do direct consulate filing for US later then u can both come back to states.

I don't know about immigration to the UK, but if the goal is to be with your fiance before the end of next year, then despite the fact that there are some pretty hefty delays, you'd definitely be together again before the end of 2008 on a K-1. That is, assuming you have nothing special about your case. If you filed today, you'd probably be looking at June or July.

This is a wild guess on my part, and hopefully someone can give you much better information, but I doubt the timeframe for emigrating to the UK is much faster, and could even be slower.

I think the real question is: where do you and your partner want to live your lives together? Is one of you more attached to your home country than the other? Can you imagine yourself spending the rest of your life in the UK? I lived in Scotland for 3 years, and would go back in the blink of an eye if I could make a decent living there. But it's not everybody's cup of tea. The same could be said for anyone moving to America of course, which is why you shouldn't base your decision too much on how much time it's going to take to get a Visa. Base your decision on where you want to wind up. The waiting time for a Visa will be a drop in the bucket compared to the rest of your life.

Hope that helps, and best of luck to you both!

So he is coming here in February to the states... we could just get married then I could go back with him and apply for the visa at a british embassy there?? I thought if you were a usc then you had to apply for the visa in the country you reside in ??? argh Im confused... because if thats the case then we will just do that, and Im off to spend my life in the UK with Chris...

if u love to live there fine, i mean british embassy in US if u marry in US. not in england, the one i knew was my friend who got married to a british girl

and the following week they went to british embassy and get their marriage visa, but it happens in nigeria, if it could be easy in nigeria it should be aesier to usc in us, so i will imploy u to contact british embassy. in us to find oout more, but am sure it is easier than immigrating to us on spouse visa. then later if u both change ur mind to live in us u can do DCF.

www.uk-yankee.com has some great answers about this.

The short answer is that yes, it is a far less time-consuming process to get a visa for a fiancee or spouse to the UK than it is to get one to come to the US. Yes, the US Citizen will apply at the British Consulate nearest to them for this visa, either by post or in person. I applied for mine and received it the same day, the whole process including filling out the forms took about three hours.

Just adding to Gwen's response.

The UK fiance visa entails making two seperate visa applications, one from the US and one following marriage in the UK. You will not be able to work in the UK on a fiance visa until you are married and have applied for the marriage visa. Once the marriage visa is granted you will be able to live and work in the UK without restriction for two years.

If you marry first, then you only need apply for the marriage visa and once you arrive in the UK you can live and work here for two years without restriction.
