Hey German folks,

maybe one of you has some advice about this:

I'm currently trying to get my stuff together for Frankfurt embassy, such as police clearances etc. Today I received my International Birth Certificate from the Standesamt, and it just looks like a copy.

The stamp is black, and so is the signature, the person who signed it used black ink.

I'm afraid that I'll be running into a problem at the embassy as an original birth certificate is required, and they might give me a hard time about the fact that the thing looks like a copy.

Should I now call the Standesamt and ask for a Certificate which is signed with blue ink, or what? Plus,I've ordered three certificates (for reserve), one looks worse than the other, and I've already paid for them via Bankeinzug.

I really didn't expect THAT....! :hehe:

I mean, all three of them really look like bad copies from a really bad copy machine.....

is blue ink a requirement or do you think that one of those I've received is good to go???

Thanks guys!

Personally, I would call the Standesamt and tell them to provide better documents. Tell them the print quality is not acceptable.

You've paid for them - you deserve acceptable products.

(BTW, the international birth certificate is actually a print out - anyway it was in my case a couple of years ago. The stamp was with blue ink. They've given my 3 originals - each with it's own stamp and signature.)

We went through this process recently. My wife (then fiance) showed me the copies and I thought the same thing. I told her that she needed the origional and she said that this was as good as it got as the origional was actually a page in some city ledger book in the town where she was born.

She has(d) a both the plain one and the international but I think we just sent in regular one. We did however send in a translation that my fiance did hersef as well as a self typed certificate of translation.

Let me know and I may be able to post or send you a copy of the cert. of translation.

Hey that would be great! Do you think you can post the translation here?

That would be a great resource for all German folks who are maybe facing the same issue, and obviously I'm not the only one, as you guys ran into the same problem.

Yep, I'll call the Standesamt and will ask for an International Cert, stamped and signed with blue ink (....if they do it), but will also order a regular Birth Certificate, just to be on the safe side, and will send it to the embassy along with the translation....

Thanks again....and CONGRATS to you guys! Alles, alles Gute nachtraeglich zur Hochzeit!!! :)
