If you are 18 to 21 you need parental CONSENT. that is either bringing your parents or bringing a letter that your parents wrote stating they consent to the marriage. if they dont like the letter they can request the parents come there.

If you are 21 to 24 you have to show that your parents are AWARE of the engagement, with a letter etc. that one is easier to prove. it is rarer for them to ask for the parents when the lady is over 21. pictures of the parents at an engagement party or a letter with them saying they know of the engagement is enough.

ok what do i do? my SO is 21 & lives in cebu, her mother is deceased & her father lives on another island, & doesn't have much contact w/ the family.

Hello guys,

I attended Guidance and Counseling at Cebu last Oct. 22, 2007 and as I have observed, girls who are 19-24 yrs old brought their mom during our seminar but they have to stay outside..Some were called during the one on one interview!

If possible, get a letter from her father, stating that he is aware of the engagement, and approves of the upcoming marriage. If there is any proof of the mother's death, she might want to have that along to show that her mother is deceased.

Even if he lives on another island, hopefully someone can get a letter either in person or by postal for her.

What family does she have a lot of involvement with or live with? An older sister or brother? An Uncle and Aunt? If I were in your shoes, I'd also have her get a couple letters from them also. Just to show overall family approval.

i'll get to work trying to get a letter from her father. he's a fisherman/construction worker (migrant like many)...so he may be hard to locate. she lives w/ her older sis, a few bros & her aunt & uncle all live in the same village. i'm going back in dec. for her b-day, so i'll get pics w/ us & all of them, & get them all to write letters.

thanks for the heads up everyone!
