Hi

Wanting to know a bit more about the police certificates required at the US London Embassy. I know each consulate very as far as their requirements. It’s a bit early to get them, but want to be prepared because of the time it takes to obtain them.

Me and my fiancee spent over a year in her birth country (Thailand) recently and I think we will have to get one from there as well, not sure though. Could those of you who have gone through this Consulate give us the exact requirements for the police certificates they need, and how soon should we obtain them?

From what I understand she needs police reports from all places lived at, for more than one year since the age of 16. Don’t know if this is correct because I was probably looking at another embassy’s requirements.

Thanx

Kay

Thanx for the URL Adele,

I really needed what exactly it asks for in packet 3 or 4 regarding the Police certificates (word by word if possible) from the london consulate.

This way we can see how many we need, from where, when, etc?

From an email reply I got from the US consulate in London (so this applies to UK residents - other consulates may differ in requirements)

Police certificates are required for each visa application aged 16 years or older. A separate certificate is required from the police of each country in which the applicant has lived for twelve months or more after the age of 16; the period is six months if country of birth or current residence. This certificate must cover the entire period of the applicant's residence in that area or country and state what the appropriate police authorities records show concerning each applicant including all arrests, the reason for the arrest(s), and the disposition of each case of which there is a record.

Thank you for your e-mail correspondence.

It doesn't matter which consulate you are going through, everyone is required to submit police records from every country they have lived in for more than 6 months.

And be careful of what you read, in regards to which certificates are obtainable! I read on ***removed*** that police certificates were not available from Thailand. Wrong! They are and it only took about 3 weeks for me to receive mine, from the day I sent my request by mail from Canada.

However Japan took just over two months.

Go here - this is the Vancouver Thai Consulate but the requirements remain the same unless you are currently residing in Thailand.

lisaleboucq - that ISN'T the case for the UK as you can see from my cut n paste from the email from the Embassy itself; they require only police certs from countries you have lived in for 12 months other than your country of birth.

lucy - just go to that site, get the form http://www.met.police.uk/information/metric/index.htm and return

OR, and I think this is easier as I did it this way - GO to your LOCAL police station and request the form, taking ID (passport *and* utility bill is best), and fee of £10. You can apply at ANY police station but one in a fairly big town or city is best as the smaller ones may not know which form you mean. As you are in Leeds this shouldn't be an issue.
