551 Passport Stamp while GC /Name Check pending

Does anyone know if, while at AOS interview, if they advise the I-485 is approved-- but GC will not be sent until Name Check is cleared-- can we request the 551 stamp in passport? We did not apply for EAD because the EADs were being sent at almost same time as AOS approvals, and we didn't think it was necessary. Any thoughts are most appreciated. Thanks. - ClbSparrow

Absolutely correct. Officers using the "approved pending namecheck" are only commenting on their belief the marriage is valid. Has nothing to do with "approval" of the greencard. It's a misnomer.
