BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — One person is dead and five others were injured in a mass shooting at the Mall of Louisiana in Baton Rouge on Thursday afternoon.

Baton Rouge Police Chief TJ Morse confirmed that 5 suspects have been taken into custody in connection with the shooting.

The incident unfolded around 1:25 p.m.

According to police, two groups of people got into an argument at the food court when gunfire erupted.

Authorities say at this time, the mall has been evacuated and there is no known threat to the public, but the incident does not appear to be a random act of violence.

Mayor-President Sid Edwards joined authorities at the scene, saying, “To the thugs who did this, we are going to catch you.”

The mayor’s office confirmed that the victims are currently at city hospitals receiving treatment for their injuries.
