Hi everyone, I’m filling out an N-600 for a child from Egypt and I’m confused about the name section.

He has 6 names total, and under Egyptian naming convention they’re not really “middle names” in the Western sense. The issue is that his name is shortened differently on different documents:

  • Egyptian birth certificate = full name

  • Egyptian passport = shortened

  • green card = shortened differently

  • Social Security card = shortened differently too

So I’m not sure what the best way is to fill out the USCIS name fields.

Can you just put first name + last name and leave the middle name blank?

Or, if the person has multiple names, do you put everything that isn’t the first name or last name into the middle name field?

I’m trying to figure out what people usually do in this situation, especially for N-600 or other USCIS forms, so it matches USCIS records and doesn’t cause problems later.
