IR-1- Is there an expiry to the application? Abandon?

Hi

File is with NVC waiting for police report and ds260 etc. How much time do they give before they close the case? There is some issue that came up. Elderly parent with serious health issues. Cant leave them for atleast 6 months or more. What happens to the case? Can i continue after 6 months and send police report and get interview date? Is there an expiry date to the application? Will they abandon the case?

NVC will close the case after a year...You can keep the case open indefinitely by contacting NVC at least once a year.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..
