K1 Visa in Lagos. Our NVC status is at "READY".

We have not submitted our DS-160 yet, when exactly is it best to pay the visa fee?

Will the Lagos embassy contact us first?? Should we instead wait for their response, or do we have to first submit the DS-160 to begin receiving a response from the embassy to begin the document review appointment?

Please be specific, thank you all

a submitted DS-160 is valid for 1 year. you can submit it and pay the visa at any point really.

view the information here that references K1 visas

https://ng.usembassy.gov/immigrant-visas-processing-in-lagos/

it appears that the embassy may email the applicant:

"Certain applicants may be emailed by the consulate and asked to schedule an appointment in our online scheduling platform. Please monitor the email address you have previously provided on your application materials, as we may send you important instructions after we accept your case from NVC."

have you tried emailing the embassy directly at all? this appears to be the best email to contact them at - nigeria@usvisaappt.com

if you do email them, make sure to include the NVC case number and applicants name in the subject line

Do I need to submit the DS-160 to begin getting a response from the embassy though?  The embassy in Lagos doesnt seem to respond to emails, even emails from my fiance.

Will submitting DS-160 early cause any confusion or issues?

that i am unsure of

no it shouldn't cause any issues.

just make sure that everything that is input into the DS-160 is accurate and as up to date as possible.

how long has the case been in ready status? wait times for Nigeria are very long, so it could be a few months before you hear anything from the embassy.

also something to keep in mind when submitting the DS-160, if you do it too soon and you haven't heard from the embassy yet, you risk it expiring.

this seems like the site you want to go through

you submit the DS-160 and then register with Lagos visa appointment handler and schedule the interview and document review there

https://www.usvisaappt.com/visa/page?country=NG&apiPageName=kVisa&locale=en

I also found this information from the Lagos visa navigator

"K1 applicants must email LagosIV@state.gov to schedule an immigrant visa interview appointment.

Applicants must include the following information in their email:

  • USE THIS SUBJECT LINE: M66 – K1 SCHEDULING - FULL NAME - CASE NUMBER

  • Petitioner’s First and Last name

  • Beneficiary’s Frist and Last Name

  • Immigrant Visa Case Number (starting with three letters)

  • Attach a copy of Beneficiary’s passport bio page "

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdMSMzJmoYVaxf-obif6_AaMIT4fbxpIvLEkPW84ISGSwSkIg/viewform - Lagos visa navigator, follow option for immigrant visas, and then K1 Processing
